I'm Car Hunting......any Suggestions?
Davetheref replied to mumof4's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Is it the Vectra you are getting now MO4 ? -
I have always configured my PDA (and some of my friends which are all different) this way. Select Other NMEA, 4800 baud rate (have never had it working on 9600), comm port 3 (I think, difficult as its at home and I'm not). The first 2 are definately correct (well was for me) and the thing you are looking for is the radioactive sign (best way to describe it) in the top right corner to be turning round and not still. If it is turning it is seeking the satelites. If it is not turing just go to the 3rd step again and try a different setting. Hope that makes sense Dave

Lots of members on here also have the 'funny' voices to go with it. I managed to get hold of darth Vader, Ozzy Osbourne and John Clease form other members.

Also forgot to mention, I have the 1.8 TDCI engine and think its great. I would have liked the 2.0 but couldn't stretch to that. Seems a lot smoother and faster than my old 1.9 TDCI in my old Mk2 Gal.

You do get a tyre repair kit in the Gal. I have just picked up an S_max which is very similar to the new gals, same front of car , dashboard, folding seats etc. There is a tyre repair kit in the floor storage area behind the drivers seat. I had a quick look at it the other day and there is an electric compressor and something to put in the tyre to repair it (some sort of gel I suppose).

Can anyone recommend a tinting firm in Hertfordshire or London(north or east) as I work in Canary Wharf and could drop my car off on the way to work?

Looks really good and for that price you cant argue. I've been looking around Hertfordshire for the same with my S-max and the cheapest I've found is

Fitting Rear Parking Sensors
Davetheref replied to Davetheref's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Took the plunge today and actually fiited them properly (I did hate drilling the holes in the bumper) and lo and behold, they do work. Very pleased with them and was quite easy in the end. Buzzer could do with being a tad louder but I can always change that at a later date. -
Fitting Rear Parking Sensors

When I still had my Gal Ghia, I never touched the manual switch and left them on the whole time. I've since spoken to the people I bought them from and they said that I should actually fit them all in the bumper before doing any tests. Not convinced that will turn the buzzer off but will give it a try. -
Fitting Rear Parking Sensors

Thanks for the replys so far. Forgot to mention a couple of things. I set up all the wiring before I actually fitted the sensors in the bumper so I just had one loose and not near anything when testing and the buzzer did turn off when reverse was disengaged. The other thing is that it is in my new S-Max (scandalous I Know) and I found the correct wire before it went into the tailgate loom using my volt meter. Well I think it is the correct one as I got a 12 volt reading on it when reverse was on and no reading when off so does that make it the right one? -
I've just bought a rear parking sensor kit from Ebay. Looks very straight forwardbut an having a problem with the power. The instructions say to pick up power for the unit from the reversing lights. There are two wires and it says that the red wire should connect to reversing light live (positive) and the black light to the reversing light negative. Now what i did was connect to the live from the lights but just connected the other wire to a local earth which I thought would be the same as the negative. When I did this the buzzer is on continuously. Can anyone shed any light on this or has done it in the past. Hope it makes sense.

Well, I swapped the Gal for an S-Max this morning. After lots of tears and caresses I gave them my Gal and promptly forgot all about it. First impressions of the S-Max (I went for thr 1.8 TDCI Zetec) are it feels a lot smoother and faster than the Gal (1.9 TDCI) and I almost had to stop and get to check if they had given me a diesel as it was that smooth. Acceleration is smoother and faster and the ride is very comftable. I picked it up at MotorsCoalville in Leicestershire and drove back to Stevenage so gave it a good run. The things I will miss, and do already, is cruise control, parking sensors and the rear pricy glass, none of which are standard on the Zetec model. I have just ordered some parking sensors from Ebay and will look to get the glass tinted professionally but have no idea whether its possible or even worth the hassle to get cruise control again. Apart from those 3 things, every else is now standard on the Zetec's i.e. Heated door mirrors, electric windows all round etc. The wife tried getting in and out of the third row of seats the other day in the showroom and she did manage ok even though its a tad smaller than the Gal but overall am very pleased so far and time will tell.

Bill How much are they to get fitted at Halfords? The ones of Ebay look pretty easy to fit but know that it can sometimes turn into a nightmare. Cheers

Poor Fuel Economy! Help
Davetheref replied to nhawan's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I still have my 130ps TDCI 53 Gal (just) and I have always got around 500-550 mile per full tank. Around town always around 35-40 mpg and on runs, if I dont hammer it, around 45-50 mpg. So I would say you do have a problem there. I think there are a lot of previous posts that could point you in the right direction but you will have to search to find what you need. -
Finally Done The Deed. Gal Will Be No More
Davetheref replied to Davetheref's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Looks like I really am going to miss those parking sensors after all. I didn't look at the proper dimensions but just like to see a car 'in the flesh' so to speak but at least that explains why I can reach more of the roff from standing next to it. -

I'll get some piccys on here when I get it. You're right, MO4, about the Titanium. It is very nice and just a bit out of my price range. I was pleasently suprised though about the spec level of a Zetec but the biggest things I'll miss is the parking sensors and the cruise control as I use them a lot now. Didn't know about the size though compared with the Gals. When I first saw it in a showroom the tailgate was open and I was chatting away with a salesman saying how great the new Gals are when he politely told me I was looking at an S-Max, so it had me fooled as it didn't seem any different, size wise, to my mark 2. I must admit that it seems I can reach a bit more of the roof now so at least that will get cleaned more in the future without using my steps. -

1.8 TDCI Zetec in Machine Silver. Wanted the Ghia/Titanium but couldn't quite stretch the money that far. Wont actually be geting it until next week so i can have a nice long luvvy farewell to the Gal this week. -
Well, I did it and ordered an S-Max. Not sure if I've done the right thing and am having all sorts of guilt trips about the Gal going as i'm on my second one without any of the normal problems that are always on here. just been lucky I guess. I just dont need a car the size of a Gal any more as the 2 kids are both driving themselves now. I will miss the comfort and size, although the S_max isn't that much smaller and i will still have the 7 seats if I need them. The Ford dealer tells me that S-Max's are out selling Gals at the moment and that is why they are making deals on the gals. Well, hope I am still welcome on here even after doing the deed

Was in my local Ford's the other day and was looking over what I thought was a New Galaxy as I didn't bother looking at the tailgate name. The saleman put me right and appears I was looking at an S Max. They seem only slightly smaller than a Gal but with a more rounded shape. Very impressed and he told me that the Gals have had to have a price drop as the SMAX's are selling faster. I do love my gal but have only used the 7 seats 3 times this year but I do love the comfort, space and ride so dont want to give that up alltogether. Anyone had the chance to compare the new gals and s max yet?

I find that I have to run both Ad-Aware and Spybot to clear the spyware as one program often pickup items that the other doesn't.
