  1. Glad you got some good advice and saved yourself the hassle and money of a dealer visit. Bet you feel dead chuffed now!
  2. Yup, that's right. It appears that if you have a Ford, the chances are that the cruise light will not be working (mine doesn't work) whereas Sharan and Alhambra usually have an operating light. Apparently the dash lights cannot be changed. Thinking about another thread ref having to programme a new (replacement) instrument cluster, I wonder if a majority of Ford instrument panels have been programmed incorrectly at the factory, and maybe the cruise light can be made to work by reprogramming. Wouldn't want to risk letting a dealer near mine to try this though.....
  3. ISTR that it covers almost all the electronic items; try searching the forum. I think it has been covered before.
  4. Worth a try: Open fully all your electric windows. Disconnect the battery for half a minute or so, then re-connect. Reset the window closing system if necessary (see handbook). If this doesn't fix it, I'm not sure what next, but I think one of the more technically experienced advisors will post a suggestion or two...
  5. This has been covered many times before. There is a known problem with interior door handles, starting with the first of the facelifted models and by some accounts, only just sorted. It is to do with the base plastic material not taking the "soft-feel" layer very well. You may get yours changed under warranty if the trim is peeling. If not, try a search on the forum. There is at leat one source of aluminium finished items that can be bought and fitted as replacements.
  6. 5necks - manual or auto transmission?
  7. Fitting a new one or replacing an existing one (ie cambelt)??? Haynes manual or TIS CD would be good starting points
  8. Syringes - try the local chemist - you will get a funny look when you ask them what you want it for, and you tell them your reason! Takes me back to my days as a student - I needed them to mix chemicals for photographic processing. Make sure you state clearly that you don't want any needles! Brake fluid should be changed every 2 years according to the "experts" but I usually get mine done every 3 years and I have not had a poblem.
  9. All car aircon systems won't work below about 4 degrees C. Fuel penalty is typically 1 to 2 mpg maximum, and for maximum life of the system it is best to leave it switched on all year round.
  10. First check the in-line fuse for the radio; hmm about 5A I guess? Output is about 20Watts per channel, total 80 watts so about 7 amps, but this will be maximum from the amplifier and they are supposed to be 50 percent efficient at most. Unit cannot draw 14 amps! I would think that 5 to 6 amps would be OK if you don't turn the volume up to much. You should find that an electronics "bench power supply" would be fine, but these tend to be expenive, more so than a portable radio/CD player which would be a very cheap, simple (and portable) option. It may be possible to run it off a car battery charger plugged into the mains, but it will need to be something other than a trickle charger. How are your ears now? Are you fully recovered yet? I'm having a few oains in my left ear from a cold I had a few weeks ago, cannot decide whether I should go to see the doctor or not (I really dion't like to trouble him for trivia, only been there about 4 times in 8 years that we have lived at present house). NB I have several old car radios in a cupboard at home, just don't use them because of the problems of power supply and speakers.
  11. Not sure on best method for re-using the deflectors. I tried to re-use some a few years back, and the heat from the headlamp made the adhesive soften. One side flew off into the breeze, never to be seen again.... There is also the issue of what solvent to use to clean plastic lenses after removing them. Must not use anything that will damage the headlamp assembly.
  12. Contact Ford technical again and tell them that your dealer does not seem to know what to do, can they recommend someone who does know what to do. Sounds like you are indeed being given the run-around.
  13. Agreed - also try a search, we've covered this topic before. You don't want to get the wheel machined off the car do you now?.......
  14. Next job then is to find a black and white cat and secure it to the front passenger seat.... Then, big question, where can you buy a peaked cap from?
  15. Sounds about right, depending on the labour rate per hour. I think that the engine has to come out so it's fairly labour-intensive. Have you or your friend tried a clutch specialist or is this a main-dealer price?
  16. Not in such a "remote" place! Closest places I can think of that may be of help to you are in Aberdeen (!) I don't know the west coast of Scotland too well, no wonder you'd prefer internet or mail order. Have you got a Halfords near you?
  17. (1) Check fluid level for transmission. (2) If you can consistently repeat this problem, take it to a dealer and demonstrate the fault to them. Get it fixed under warranty or it will cost hundreds (or thousands) to get it sorted later. I'm getting concerned at the number of auto box faults being reported on the forum. Was contemplating changing my Gal for an auto next year but I doubt if I will now.
  18. Thats not right, I had them change the brake fluid on my Scenic last year and it wasn't as much as
  19. Where in the UK are you?
  20. Duff temperature sensor or wiring to it was disturbed duriung the aircon repair? Have you checked it out? Does the gauge work normally and it's just that the light comes on, or is the needle stuck at the top or bottom of the gauge?
  21. Hi there and Happy Easter. For what you are proposing to do, I doubt that an oil cooler will be necessary for either engine or transmission. Reversing sensors can be dealer-programmed to take account of a towbar although you may not need to adjust them depending on the design of the bar and bracketry itself - there are a few other topics with postings that cover this subject on the forum.
  22. Nope - the job for Easter Sunday is to demolish all those chocolate eggs...... :(
  23. Seeing as Saab are now owned by GM and are using adapted Vauxhall/Opel engines, perhaps it is not so surprising after all. Saab no longer use a V6 engine as it was the GM unit formerly used in the Omega, and now GM have stopped making it hence Saab can no longer offer a V6 :(
  24. Facelifted ones do, mine works OK and I don't need to spend as much as
  25. Think I paid about a tenner for the same sort of box of security fixing things from the local hardware shop a few years back. I've also got a reasonable set of torx bits too.
