Screwing Items To Metal Bodywork
Ivor_E_Tower replied to MrT's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
..and where? Will dirt/moisture get to the exposed threaded end of the screw? -
Tdi Missing On Uphill Acceleration
Ivor_E_Tower replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Does the 110 have drive-by-wire? Could be duff windings on the throttle pot, mentioned in another recent thread. Seems more likely to be a fuel delivery problem though. -
40,000 mile service on V6 - don't they have chain driven cams? And as for me, on my present low mileage, I won't get to 40,000 miles in 4 years so will leave the cambelt change for a year or two longer (unless I get lucky and change the car before then - looking for the next-gen Galaxy in 2006).
-
Don't know what is involved with the V6 but it sounds expensive (unless the plugs get changed too, and if they are platinum tipped it will cost...)

What's The Name Of The Colour Purple?
Ivor_E_Tower replied to a topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
ISTR it's something like "Fleurie" but Purple Peril should know the answer! -
...and I'm almost certain that it will be an MOT fail if the warning light is on.

Check vehicle height again when fully laden with luggage and passengers - it may bring it down under the dividing mark between "expensive" and "extortionate"!

Loss Of Power Etc
Ivor_E_Tower replied to fivenecks's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Yes, simple DIY job. Just unclips IIRC -
Yeah, but I don't have the money at the moment (no holiday for us this year, just the odd day out locally), and I'm still paying off the loan on my present Gal. Looking on the bright side, I've just realised that I'm half way through the 3 years though!

Reversing Sensors

"Taking this off I found the sensor in two halves." ..and responded with a post in 2 halves? :o -
Parking Sensor Operation
Ivor_E_Tower replied to degens's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Galman - yes the dealers can re-programme the system to take account of a towbar, and the rear sensors should then not operate when a trailer is connected (because if they do, they will sound all the time as they detect the trailer). Sounds (no pun intended) as if they have been programmed incorrectly. Worth asking at your local service counter if they can investigate. -
Digital Clock Backlight

..and ISTR it's been covered with photos on this site before. Try a search. Oh, and good luck when you get round to changing it. -
Drivers Door Wind Noise
Ivor_E_Tower replied to Denis's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If, as may be suspected, it's wind noise from around the mirror, have you checked that the driver's door window is correctly located and closes fully into the top of its channel, and the leading and trailing edge channels? Check also for any dead insects etc inside the channels with the window wound down. Any slight gap would certainly make external noise from around the miror appear louder than it should be. -
Loss Of Power Etc
Ivor_E_Tower replied to fivenecks's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It is ridiculous. Duff MAF sensor will not harm the turbo, it will just confuse the engine into running with "odd" parameters, none of which could affect the turbo. Turbo has bearings and oil feed, and runs off the exhaust gasses passing through it. Oil is supplied by oil pump (I hope) so will be unafected by MAF failure. Composition of exhaust gasses wil be affected by MAF failure, but the ECU should default to a "get-you-home" mode if MAF fails catastrophically. Turbos are usually around -
That's where my Gal came from; I was tempted to go along just to look at the 4x4 but so far have decided against it. :o

Had a little play on the fraud site - my 30,000 mile service can vary from around

Better to get a type that rests on the rear bumper, against the tailgate, so that most of the load is downwards rather than into the skin of the tailgate. Large stepladder needed if you are going to load them onto the roof.

No offence taken - I don't mind the odd jibe at my expense!

Make your own ramps out of chipboard, with a long, gradual slope - I had to make a set for my Rover 820, whose front bumper came close to the ground near the front wheels. Sadly the damp in the garage at our former house got to them and they got binned in favour of a metal pair on special offer.

Gear Box Oil Change
Ivor_E_Tower replied to charles's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Always a good idea to fit a new washer - assuming that the old one will come off (hasn't been squashed and distorted so that it no longer passes over the bolt's thread?) -
Not today thanks :( got the folding bike in the back and a bike rack at home, which has yet to be fitted to the Gal - one idea was that when the kids wanted to take the bikes, a Gal would take them with the bikes inside. Not got round to trying this out yet though.
-
Ordinary rack should be OK but you will need an additional rear number plate (with lights on a board?) - the french police are known for stopping Brits with bikes obscuring the rear plate and issuing on-the-spot fines, and preventing you from driving on.....

How Much For A 1st Service - Tdi 130

Ford price is around -
How does the auto-dim work? Is it a thin LCD layer over the glass that gradually darkens to cut light transmission, or is there a motor that moves the mirror in a similar way to the manual lever?
