What's The Name Of The Colour Purple?
Ivor_E_Tower replied to a topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
...but not on Mk1. (Isn't this similar to State Blue, or have they just re-named it?) -

Drive Shaft Failiure

Not heard of that happening before, on any car. -
Tried Tesco last November but Sainsburys were cheaper! Sainsburys is run by e-sure, but the quote I got from Sainsburys was cheaper than the one I got from e-sure! - and I got nectar points plus an extra discount by paying with a Sainsburys Bank credit card.

They are now available as spare parts from your local Ford dealer. Fog lamp surrounds just clip in; grilles require a few more minutes' work.

If it isn't, it must be "scotch mist blue" -
What's The Name Of The Colour Purple?
Ivor_E_Tower replied to a topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
Do you mean Mk1 or Mk2? Mk2 has only just become available in a light blue shade - metropolis. If you mean Mk1, I now think I know which colour you mean, but I don't have an old brochure so cannot get the name from there. This one?light_blue_sharan -

Are you getting confused with the metallic red (ketchup) colour? Fleurie is the purple-ish colour as per Purple Peril's, below. -
Flashing display just means that there is a fault - if you know a new compressor is needed, then hopefully this is what it is telling you. Are you covered under a 3-year warranty?

If the sump is ali, it should have a helicoil (thread insert) fitted making cross-threading almost impossible, except by a real oaf. If necessary the helicoil could be removed, probably by drilling out, but I uspect that the dealer's technicians do not have the capability to do this, so a new sump appears to be a "simpler" solution. If the thread was damaged though, how was the plug refitted last time? Sounds highly suspicious to me.....

Headlamp Adjuster Not Working
Ivor_E_Tower replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The amount by which the lights move when you turn the adjuster is very small. Unless it is dark and you are parked almost touching a wall with dipped beam switched on, it is very hard to see the beams actually lower/raise...and as has been said, if you have Xenons, the adjuster is not linked to them as self-levelling rear suspension will be fitted. -
If the plug itself has worn, only it needs replacing, not the pan, which should be of harder material. If the pan has had its thread damaged, this is almost certainly due to dealer incompetence with a "technician" damaging the thread during an oil change (eg by cross-threading or trapping a bit of dirt etc in the thread, not having cleaned it out before re-fitting the plug).

Have you locked/unlocked it with the key recently, then left it in the wrong position so that is is not working with the C/L on purpose?

ISTR this got mentioned a few weeks back - the Sharan/Gal VR6 uses a different thermostat to the one in other VW cars with the same engine. Try a main dealer  to get the correct one, if all else fails! Do you have a motor factors near you - see if they offer more than one temp setting for a VR6 thermostat.

2.8 V6 Auto, Revving Out Of Control - Help?
Ivor_E_Tower replied to a topic in Vehicle safety and recalls
Think you will find that Ford garages do not have the relevant electronics to interrogate the 2.8's auto box. You should try a VW dealer. -
Seems like a perfectly acceptable repair, so long as you have access to a suitable drill and tap! Chances are that the plastic has only worn due to the weight of the weight of the mechanism resting on it, so if this is replaced by the bolt and nut, you should be OK for a long while.

Won't go over 60 - is it road speed related, or if you rev the engine at rest in neutral will it reach the red line? Is it smooth when under no load, or only when driving? Sounds a hard one to diagnose. I would almost suggest disconnecting one spark plug at a time and seeing if this replicates the rough running, but this may damage the cat - that's complicated modern electronics etc for you! Anyone else got any ideas? Seems strange that no fault codes are logged if you cannot go over 60 - crankshaft position sensor faulty?

I've had this problem on a previous car and the only really satisfactory solution is a new part. Anything from a scrapyard may have the same level of wear. ISTR someone suggesting a fix using the "instant metal" epoxy mixes, but the basic fault stems from a design problem whereby the weight of the wiper linkage mechanism is taken by the plastic part of the joint, which wears quite quickly as a result.

Screwing Items To Metal Bodywork

Wise move - if the drill slips you could add a nasty bump to the bonnet. Best to leave it as it is now. Have you bought the chromed grille to go with it? If so, how much? I was thinking of upgrading my Gal, but somehow the chrome doesn't really show up against a silver body colour. It looks good against black, though. -
Not straightforward - climate control has servo-operated distribution flaps rather than cable-operated. Dash will need to come out, and you may have to change loads of bits on the heater matrix/ducts. Sorry to disappoint you.
