  1. Com'on Dave - are you a road angel? :)
  2. I once thought about go faster stripes until I read somewhere they dont actually work... :)
  3. Decide when you breakdown.. :)
  4. Remember the 0.5 sec is a minimum - also it means by turning the key as opposed to using the remote. Try unlocking drivers door hold the key in unlock position for one second and release, repeat twice more within the 5 second limit. The remote central locking/coding is taken care of by a multifunction electronic module known as GEM (Generic Electronics Module) which is located in the fuse box along with the level 3 fuses. After the first remote transmitter has been successfully programmed all the previously stored remote transmitters will be erased. So....don't let it go out of program mode until you've done all your remote keys Please note the security warning earlier in this thread.
  5. I would think you need a proper Shalaxy remote key for it to work. You could also check the remote key battery.
  6. When they come on do they come on continually or just a single wipe?
  7. Sealed for life. There is no dipstick, it can be checked but its a workshop job involving removing a test plug from under the box. I'm no expert on auto boxes but it could be: The Transaxle Electronic Control System or a sensor is faulty (Throttle position (TP) sensor, turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor, vehicle speed sensor (VSS), intermediate shaft speed sensor or transmission fluid temperature sensor.) A check on the diagnostics should show this up. The TECS operates in a "fail" mode if a sensor input is faulty. Possibly could be an engine problem as the box requests a torque down signal to the engine PCM during changes. Again a job for diagnostics. or low oil (did it leak?) or the clutch(es) may be worn. or solenoids sticking or its completely knacked.
  8. Probably the charger is f****d. Some chargers however have a anti reversed-connection protection system that require the battery voltage to be > 10.5 volts before they will charge. If there really was only 7.3v at the battery terminals your battery might also be f****d. Silver-ca (and Ca-Ca) batteries do not like deep discharge and it can kill them. You can use an ordinary charger to charge a Silver-ca battery, but it may not get fully charged or may take a long time to charge as the charging voltage is higher than the old standard batteries. Use jump leads to get some charge in the battery before you try your charger again.
  9. As the 2.8 engine is a VW engine, I would think so.
  10. Hang on a mo... arent Rapid Fit part of Ford service network and use genuine Ford parts?
  11. SA , what are the benefits of closing down EGR?
  12. Ford TIS CD...
  13. The Galaxy is only certified as a seven seater - you couldn't get it insured as an eight seater.
  14. The lambda sensor is used in engines with three-way catalytic converters to comply with or reach todays low statutory emission values for pollutants, and to optimize the performance of the engine and fuel consumption. It senses the oxygen content. Yes u got one, its screwed into your cat  and is connected by wires back to the ecu.
  15. IF U GOT A METER (why am I shouting?) Looking at the motor module connector... the 0v earth is the brown wire the 12v permanent supply is the red/yellow wire the 12v from ignition switch is the black/yellow wire Check voltages when u try to open window.
  16. THEN ITS SOMAT MECHANICAL IN THE MOTOR GEARBOX OR THEM WIRE THINGYS THAT PULL THE GLASS UP AND DOWN.
  17. :o :o :o :o :o Its suddenly struck me that you could program any (non lock fitting) remote key by the procedure above!!! You just need access to the original key for the programming period! Hows that for a tip for the dishonest back street dealer!!!! :( :D    And because the car is programmed to the key and not the other way round, one key will suffice for the crook taking any number of Shalaxies on a test drive. Then he's got a master key to open/unalarm/mobilise all those cars! :( :( :D :D  EDIT NOTE: After the first remote transmitter has been successfully programmed all the previously stored remote transmitters will be erased.... So it's not the insurmountable security issue i thought it was!! :D But I recommend all second hand buyers to reprogram their remotes to eliminate the possibility of having an extra remote code unwittingly stored
  18. I fail to see what testing the passenger side window has to do with the drivers side... :( How do you know the motors Ok on the drivers side? - does it make a noise? At least that'll eliminate the switch. Then....you have to strip the door panel down.... :D
  19. Sure lets have a look, but take them with a big pinch of salt. Even if a ford dealer didn't use the new apprentice to do this test, did they use the equipment correctly and do the right checks beforehand? If....the cam (or the chain????) is broken, then compression figures mean nothing. If....the cam is broken then whats the chance of 3 pistons being wiped out??? How do you start a V6 when one of the cams is broken????? Do you honestly think a (duplex) chain can jump a sprocket? Read about how this poor V6 was miraculously cured at http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/Forum/index.php?showtopic=1544
  20. No idea....but where do you put this thing when your not using it? :(
  21. Just had an arguement with the missus so now td....i
  22. According to Ford the procedure is as follows...... Remote Transmitter Programming (410040) Note: A maximum of four remote transmitters can be programmed to the generic electronic module (GEM). Programming must be carried out at the same time for all the remote transmitters. Note: Before attempting to enter programming mode, make sure that the vehicle battery is fully charged and that the anti-theft alarm system is not armed or triggered. Note: If the programming mode ends with no new remote transmitters programmed, remote transmitters originally programmed are retained by the GEM. Note: After the first remote transmitter has been successfully programmed all the previously stored remote transmitters will be erased. Note: The GEM will exit programming mode automatically if four remote transmitters have been programmed or if no new remote transmitter has been programmed within the 15 second programming mode. 1. Close all the vehicle doors. 2. Note: Make sure the door lock cylinder is held in the unlock position for more than 0.5 seconds. Insert the key into the driver door lock cylinder and turn the key from the rest position to the unlock position three times within five seconds. 3. The door lock light emitting diodes (LED)s will illuminate for 15 seconds during the remote transmitter programming mode, allowing the remote transmitter to be programmed. 4. Remove the key from the driver door lock cylinder and aim the remote transmitter at the interior rear view mirror. 5. Press and hold the LOCK button on the remote transmitter. 6. While holding the LOCK button down, press the UNLOCK button three times on the remote transmitter. 7. Release both buttons simultaneously. 8. Make sure the door lock LEDs flash five times, confirming that the remote transmitter has been programmed. 9. After a remote transmitter has been successfully programmed, the GEM will reset the programming mode, allowing a further 15 seconds to program the next remote transmitter. 10. To program additional remote transmitters, repeat steps 4 to 8. 11. Make sure that all the doors lock and unlock, confirming that the GEM is no longer in programming mode. 12. Test all the programmed remote transmitters, by activating and deactivating the locking and unlocking functions.
  23. What about the guy that filled his engine to the top of the filler cap? He thought that five gallons seemed a lot..... :(
  24. Agreed, Im inclined to think its probably an electrical fault (coilpack/leads/plugs) and just running very rough. IMO most engine mechanical faults are usually very terminal..(it stops dead)
  25. Although the module hinges down, access to the printed circuit board requires you to remove the plastic cover through which the connectors pass. There not really fuses - its an electronic "brain" in the galaxy and can turn functions on/off electronically. So you can't check it in the way you check a fuse. It can be tested on Fords WDS diagnostic system.
