  1. Sorry to hear about your tragic loss, sympathies.... Rear pads wear faster than fronts due to over enthusiastic self adjusting handbrake design. 5mm would be about 2/3rd worn. Garages tend to use the arguement that the pads might not last to the next service....mmmm You were conned with the "bacterial odour" problem...they evidently did it before they talked to you....wind your heater to max heat and fan and let it run a while with windows down, maybe that'll help All I can suggest is a diluted degreaser followed by upholstery cleaner to get rid of the oil stains. I know how frustrating it is when carpets have oily footprints, armrests and door cards have musty black shit rubbed into it. Thats why I refuse to use garages anymore.....
  2. Na, Put the correct amount of oil in......... As usual, there is insufficient detail about your car (i.e. exact year model ag4/ag5 transmission) to give further help. Does everyone think we're mind readers...... If you didn't get it earlier, the guy that topped up your box was a tosser.
  3. If only when braking then warped or contaminated discs. If it wobbles while driving normally its one or both front tyres balancing.
  4. Two wheels on my wagon...and I'm still rollin along..... (all together now..)
  5. [cockneyaccent] :o Cor blimey mate! The ol' BBC done him proud me ol' flower [/cockeyaccent] :P My local Frauds employ deaf blind mutes who service vehicles entirely by feel........ :o No offence meant to anyone with disabilities...........
  6. As with all automatics, check the gearbox thoroughly. All gears work correctly, smooth changes, at correct revs, kickdown working. If it has a towbar, be esp careful, knock some price off as Galaxy autos are prone to wear/break quickly. I should take a stopwatch and time the 0 - 60. If its more than 25 secs, then the MAF is gone and you should knock another
  7. :( Did I blink? :(
  8. Check with your tyre depot, but I think you'll find that 215/55 16" will fit your rims no problem...
  9. You evidentally expressed no concern..... :(
  10. Best get the engine number, BTW IIRC dual mass flywheel was only fitted to 110 bhp for a short while - or maybe am I wrong?
  11. For PD engines, Oil must meet spec VW505.01 or VW506.01 The ".01" is the important bit - oil specially designed for PD engines, in particular to protect the unit injectors and camshaft from premature wear. VW505.00 is not suitable, semi or full synthetic..... If you read this forum a lot you will be aware of the ignorance of many dealers and "service centres" regarding this issue.
  12. I would check the wiring to the injectors for damage....... This may be symptomatic of a PD engine which has been run on the wrong oil (worn injector pumps / cam shaft)
  13. Yeah, I forget to add that blocked drainage pipes from the a/c unit were common on early Galaxies - there are small one way valves at the end of the pipe which get blocked - best to remove and discard them. The drain for the front unit is somewhere near the bottom of the engine bulkhead.....Possibly your front unit is full of water..... Key Programming
  14. I think you mean "aftermarket" rather than OEM. OEM is "original equipment manufacturer" - should be as good as VAG original.
  15. GSMGuy. Do you mean the splined shaft that the wiper arm is connected to? You know the bit that sticks out...I'm wondering if some sort of regular maintenance (squirt of WD40) is called for. Sounds like the shaft is corroding....
  16. Aircon: There is 3 way pressure switch (hi/normal/lo) which will tell the climate control unit if the gas is low. The cc unit flashes on start up for several seconds when the gas is too low (other faults can lead to it flashing too) The rear window antenna is just for the radio. AFAIK there is no antenna as such for the remote, the control unit is among the fuses in the drivers footwell. You should change the battery in the key (some keys have two batteries). Then resync the key, I think the procedure is in the manual. Water leaks: the rear washer pipe going through the passenger footwell has joints both at floor level and also up in top LH corner of the passenger footwell where it comes in through the bulkhead. Leaks have been reported along the horizontal bulkhead seam that runs across the car - this causes various electrical problems in the area of the fusebox. Leaks also reported at the bottom of the windscreen. Use a hosepipe on the windscreen and check fusebox area for damp.
  17. Judging from your photo, looks as if you already got it off! <_<
  18. :) probably fried voice coil - new speaker required - try scrapyard.
  19. ???? he fixed it john :) ....pay attention.... ;)
  20. It comes as no surprise. Garage servicing standards are abysmal. No further comment....
  21. You can't really test SA's meaningfully in a static way, the bounce test is so crude as to be useless. The vibration and uneven tyre wear is classic, basically the tyres are bouncing about without damping. It's very dangerous to continue driving, as if you were to do any emergency manouvere (i.e. a swerve) or emergency braking, you will probably find the handling completely uncontrollable. Fit new shockers, IIRC on a shalaxy the rears should be very easy as they are external to any springs etc. Fit good quality gas filled shockers. Once fitted you will be amazed at the difference.
  22. Change the back shock absorbers, this is what you get when they're f****d.... :)
  23. But at least it's a holiday you'll remember! :) I think a lot of the problems are actually just pipe/o-ring leaks......
