Loud Bang On Start Up And Car Vibration
seatkid replied to ronz's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The garage will be referring to the Dual Mass Flywheel fitted on certain MkII models. These were problematic on earlier production runs but are the subject of a manufacturer recall. VOSA recall information re DMF -
Does that mean you have'nt had your car serviced in 5 years?

Maybe the dealer forgot to refit it along with the undertray! :D

:lol:Some information about fault finding...
-
Thinks your battery is on its last legs. I fitted the biggest bestest battery I could find which was an Exide Ultra at 95Ah 850CCA but now I see you can get Even bigger better batteries!

Say what you will, but the immediate problem here is not the modem but MO4's telephone line. Bet the problem started with all this rain. MO4 why not ring 151 and select the report fault option, there is an option to do a line test. Try it when the problems are bad. The Speedtouch 330 I used for many a year was as solid as a rock and fast.....USB 1.1 will handle 8Mbps.....I doubt MO4 has anything else on this port. (I do have a Netgear router nowadays for the kids......) But MO4.....If you want a 100% solution...... :( 1. Befriend a computer geek ;) 2. Bin your computer and buy a new one. 3. Buy an expensive ADSL modem router - the more expensive the better  :) 4. Move house :( 5. Repeat above procedure until the problem is fixed  ;) :D

Poor Quality Cable Used In Door Harnesses
seatkid replied to katman's topic in What thing irritate you about your Galaxy
Thats partly true Ivor, but the fact that brittle/perished sheathing and broken cores are common , is indicative of material degrading. This is poor quality or incorrectly specified wire (wrong core no/ size and covering material). A lot of electrics used by VAG in the period 1995 - 2003 were of a poor quality due to outsourcing to piss poor contractors. i.e. the saga of the South African coil packs etc. Basically the contractors QA were lying about how the goods were manufactured and to what standard. -
The unit has NOT been modified to flash on start up...bulls*** The garage is fobbing you off, there is a fault but they don't know how to analyse it. Athough the usual cause is low gas pressure, it can also flash for several other reasons i.e. high presure, temperature sensor fault, flap position fault etc etc. IIRC some of these faults must be cleared by diagnostics. You may not have an active fault, but the fault is logged (could be an intermittent fault) It's a long shot but disconnect your battery for 5 minutes (after you check you have the radio code!). It may reset the fault.

Removing Rear Wiper Arm
seatkid replied to bushm's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Try a forum search on "resistor pack". A faulty resistor pack leaves you with some speeds that don't work. Info on how to change it is on here somewhere. -
But think of how much money it would cost you if you just put your car into a dealer and said the magic words... "I think somethings wrong....can you fix it?"

OIL TYPE USED - TDI ONLY
seatkid replied to jkspoff's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I don't agree with a lot of what super piper says. 1. There is no such thing as oil that is too good. 2. For someone who claims a knowledge of tribology, he does not seem to understand the difference between 0W40 and a 10W40 and its implications to a car engine. For the engines this forum is interested in, 0W40 oil will actually cause less wear than 10W40 oil! I will be using Quantum Synta ED for my next oil change. This is a 0W30 grade as opposed to the 5W40 Synta Gold I usually use. It has VW505.00 approval, my manual states 0W30 fully synthetic is fine, it should yield a small improvement in fuel economy and it suitable for extended drain intervals. Using the right specification of oil is what counts above all. -
Your connection is MAX ADSL. See this explanation. It will vary in speed until it determines the correct speed for your line - up to 10 days! During this training period you may experience poor internet performance!

seatkid replied to richaber's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
You are forgiven my son..... for your penance, change your oil and pollen filters. Good post and go in peace...... -
Just instruct S&D to fix the problems and see if they go away. You may have to reboot and rerun S&D Remember to update S&D to the latest definitions.

IIRC ABS was an optional extra on mid/low end models on the MK1 models

"clunking From Front"
seatkid replied to oafcowl's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Any play in the front suspension (e.g. ABS drop links) or steering can sound as if something drastic is falling to bits. Remember the forces are akin to someone hitting the subframe with a hammer! -
Central Locking Prob Solved!

Running Hot Over 70mph !
seatkid replied to cartman's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Warped head - causing pressure leak into water system etc etc. Could be the replacement engine was not rebuilt correctly or to very high standards, or has been running on low water or had faulty water cooling system. Usually a head rebuild should be re-torqued after a thousand miles or so after the head/gasket has bedded in. -
"clunking From Front"

Any movement in a Track Rod End is an MOT failure. If theres no movement in the other there's no need to replace that one too. The steering geometery will need to be reset (retracked) after changing a TRE. Use only a reputable place with "laser" alignment equipment. -
Some other possibilities could be You are using the wrong MTU size. This is usually not a problem if you are running Windows XP unless you messed with them e.g. with Registry Mechanic. Use Notepad and cut and paste the lines below between **** and ***** into a new text file called "TiscaliMtu.reg" and save your to desktop. Double click on the file to set your MTU to 1500 (default for XP and optimum for Tiscali) **** Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters] "MTU"=dword:000005dc **** (You need to restart your computer to adopt the new setting) ---or --- You machine has been compromised and is now a "bot". i.e. Running a virus/trojan which is using your internet connection for someone else's (usually malicous) benefit. Download and install Spybot search and destroy. This is pretty good at picking up bots. Remember to update the software with the latest definitions. If you press Ctrl-Alt-Del to launch Task Manager, under the process tab you will see all (except rootkits!) processes running on your computer. For the trained eye its usually pretty easy to see if your infected.....Under the networking tab you will be able to see any internet activity on a graph. This should be zero if your'e not loading any pages, if its not it could indicate a "bot"

Almost certainly the problem lies with your ISP Tiscali. Too many/ wrong sort of people on your exchange and/or overloaded "pipe" to your exchange. Or maybe you are being "throttled" because you exceed your quota or use p2p.
