Boot Dont Open
daddyfixit replied to squinty1982's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
wires have broken in tailgate, lift up tailgate and look inside rubber boot on right-hand side ??? very, very common fault---i have repaired mine loads of times but intend to make up a full loom when i get the time. -
does it happen to stink when you have just sprayed the screenwash by any chance?? screenwash does go "off" i use loads of different types, this time peppermint smelling? it was when i put it in before xmas but it smells horrible now! i usually pull the motor out of the screenwash bottle to fully empty it out, then refill with only a bit of screenwash (about 2 egg-cups? ) also had the bacteria smell; changed pollen filter and bought those "bombs" that you set off in the car when its on re-circ, takes about 20 minutes to leave a real nice fresh lemon smell in the car.

unwind the belt as far as it will go, to make sure it isnt twisted---then where the belt disappears into the bodywork,it passes through a slot??? (for a better word) lightly spray dashboard shine/bumper shine/silicone polish on it. then wind all the way out again and then see if it goes back easier.

it was locked out again.... have taken it to work twice this week and let the stupid thing smoke itself to death in the car park....i found out that every time i ran it without the exhaust there was no smoke? soon as i re-fitted the exhaust pipe it would smoke? i guessed the actual exhaust box is filled with gunge/slime/tarmac/crap , and the inside of combustion chamber must be as well---even though you cant see into it. i drilled 2 small holes in the underside of the tiny exhaust box, only 1.5mm and this morning there was a tiny bit of smoke upon heater starting up, drove 10 mins to mates mot station and drove straight on mot ramp to have a look. there was red hot exhaust gases and the holes i drilled where also giving 2 tiny jets of smoke. i think that by reducing the amount of back -pressure by drilling the exhaust box, it has affected the combustion process so that its now better and cleaner !!!! or this is all coincidental with putting in a cleaned-up gauze for the heater plug? either way, i think its fixed, and a new tailgate loom is the next job on it. after i have stopped my peugeot 306 dturbo from leaking water into its nearside door. (and if you think galaxies get leaks????? try a 306 watering can !!)

the bottom right hand torx bolt sheared, so i cant separate the unit!!! its been like that for about 5 years. so i cant get in to try and split the unit to clean it (had oven cleaner spray at the ready as well) beru 226340 modded plug put in, 2nd hand gauze from another that i had cleaned good and proper with brake cleaner. mates garage closed so no access to the scanner till tomorrow. if it smokes now , i am thinking the dosing pump is jammed wide open??? drowning the heater plug so much that its not getting the stuff to ignite---only heating it till it smokes?? so when i pick up the other heater i am going to get the dosing pump as well, rather have it on a shelf here than need 1 later on.

Galaxy Tdi 115 Oil
daddyfixit replied to SPIKEYJIMBO's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
if you find your nearest vw dealer, they usually run "tps", a trade club for local garages? i went in and asked and i think 5 litres of the correct oil was about -
brushes ended up measuring 5mm square and about 10mm long, my wires came out the side of the brush. use a hacksaw blade to cut a slot in the end for the pressure spring to locate.you can file them to fit the commutator by wrapping a piece of emery paper around a screwdriver shaft!! look on website sgaf, press translate button---very good pictures and instructions, i read it a few times first . its been working for about 3 weeks since i replaced them, its just my heater thats took the knock............

its doing my head in !!! first scan had 5 faults; 01492-p0035 function lock 01409-p0035 repeated flame interuption as above as above 01414-p0016 combustion air blower v-6 signal outside specification was advised heater plug, it has lasted 5 years anyway. so saturday afternoon removed it and carefully fitted new plug (didnt remove cover/multiplug and leads---just moved aside to use 1/4 drive socket to access the glowplug) checked fan was free and refitted to car. monday night went to collect it, bad news, at first it would not communicate and later on it did and said heater blower is inop. i thought that i havent connected outside multiplug correctly ?, then think perhaps the main red feedwire is gone further back? spoke to mirez and the autoelec who has been doing the diags for free!!! both think its poss the multiplug inside the heater? so this saturday its coming off, piece of pipe to join the heater hoses so i can still use car, but get the heater to bits on the kitchen table. will keep posting till its fixed or been binned !!!

and it still wont work......... he scanned it this morning and its locked out, it came back with another fault "blower motor ot working" vagcom could not get blower to spin either. i know its as free as bird as i checked on saturday??? this and other sites refer to problems with solder joints on the pcb, so thats what i will be doing on saturday!! hope its a bad joint or then its get hold of a motor or full heater time.

Diesel Filter Brands
daddyfixit replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
not sure, but i think there are 2 different sizes??? maybe thats why you struggled? vw ones are also made in china! i used one last time but usually fram or mann or knecht???(blue/white boxes) -
reviving an old topic here; rear wiper packed in last week, so this morning repaired some more tailgate wires, but still not working ? removed the rear motor (valeo), to find the spindle seized (just like the front ones used to be) it was rusted to death so filed and then scotch-cloth to polish it up. rebuild with fresh grease and an extra o-ring on the spindle packed with vaseline, all working and no more stop/start/stop across the screen. i read up on it first on the sgaf website, really good reading stuff on there so next weekend its prompted me to renewing all 14 wires in the tailgate loom, as i am so fed up of repairing the wires 1 by 1.

i had he car scanned today; 5 codes stored 1 saying function lock 3 of repeated flame interuption 1 of combustion blower -v6 all faults cleared and brought the car home and the weather is quite mild , so the heater didnt try to kick in !!!! so i am getting up real early in the morning to see if it works, and if not the temp sensor is going in a tb of ice cream to fool it !! heres hoping that my heater was locked out due to the failed run-on pump?

if you have a full vw service history, with all vw stamps in the book, that can be backed up when they check on their in-house system----then thats good news !!! you should ring vw customer care line (numbers in your handbook) they will ask you to go to nearest vw dealer to be checked out, the dealership then phones VAG with a report/price. VAG may offer whats called a goodwill claim, they will pay only a percentage of the repair costs of having it repaired by the dealership,VAG decides if/how much contribution they will make---its nothing to do with the dealership!!!!! if its not a full vw service history then they wont even consider it.....

stripped and re-brushed the run-on pump today !!! took about 3 hours all in, due to me not replacing the hose clips with jubilee clips--original clips were a nightmare to refit, as i left fuel filter in place as well. got it off in about 30 mins, popped the lid off to find loads of dust, so spray brake cleaner the inside of the motor and the top where the brushes are. had 2 oversize alternator brushes so sanded them on a piece of emery to size/shape. cut to length with just a hacksaw blade and cut a groove for the pressure springs with the hacksaw blade as well. to keep the brushes in holders so i could re-assemble took some thinking? couldnt find freeze spray so i used cotton to tie them back and wrapped cotton around the plastic body were the multi-plug attaches. tying knots isnt my strong point so tried twice !!! lined up end cap on motor spindle, guided in to place--then cut the cotton and pull it all the way out to release brushes against armature, then pray they are right. connected to a 9v nicad off a remote control car to make sure motor was working, then bent back securing tags to complete. refitting is awkward due to me re-using the spring type hose clips and usuing long nose mole grips to fit them, i would advise people to use ordinary hose clips when refitting. i hope to take it to mates garage this week so he can try vagcom to see if the aux heater is merely sulking or needs a new heater plug.

If the tick tick tick is noticeable in the car from the front passenger side then I think it is just the aux heater fuel pump as mine does this. It is normal as it is just some pipes ticking or something like that. A few people have mentioned the noise and it is a common thing with the galaxy. Bill

Vibration Noise O/s Wing Air Box 1200-1600 Revs
daddyfixit replied to George106's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
i too have this noise, exactly 1800 rpm? only since we had that horrendous snow for a week or so???? i checked the airbox today and it does seem loose? rattles about a bit too? but thats not the noise i heard -
if she leaves me alone in the morning, i am so going to take the fecking run-on pump to bits !!!!! been under it today doing oil /filter change at mates garage; checked all wires, connectors i could access= all ok so now needs scanning to see if im locked out.(have been let down once by a person who said they have vagcom) as you would expect i hope to find it was the pump that caused shutdown due to overheating at aux. heater. oil change took 4 hours-----------------------------new vw sumpbung was a suicide version!! brought all threads out of the sump!!!! 9 o'clock this morning trying to beg/steal/borrow a 14mm helicoil kit when garage was shutting half day. my mate had one so the mrs drove and collected it so then i had a captive audience watching me trying to sort the sump out, the longer i took the later they had to stay. anyway, job done and the moral is that you should check new sumpbung is ok before you fit it, i think it was too long as there was about 4-5 threads damaged on it.
