  1. do you mean its not wiping as far side to side any more ?? ----motor needs strip & regreasing or the wiper blade has ripped at the end ??--motor factors now do the "custom fit" all- plastic blades
  2. some kind soul smashed my drivers one off last week, leaving his number on a bit of paper.........he turned up today to pay for a new one :( so i came home from work, walked up behind the car---------someone has smashed the o/s/r light lens good and proper..................... i also have man flu so you understand its not a good day for me !!
  3. mine got whacked yesterday while dropping kids at school, phone number was left on screen by the other driver. tried to repair it to keep car safe for mrs to drive-ended up with 2 2" woodscrews through it and into the alloy body new mirror body/backing=
  4. first of all see if you have a small black o-ring on the spindle ???? if so take it OFF, it will jam up on you then rest it over a block of wood, put the nut back on the spindle to cover the threads and whack it with a hammer!! or use a large socket rested on the floor--put wiper body over it and hit the spindle out. you will need emery paper or similar to polish spindle back to accepatable state before trying to refit it. TAKE CARE AS THE WIPER BOXES ARE ALLOY AND BREAK EASILY !!! i repaired mine with that metal putty stuff , but i know one person who has fabricated his own ends and welded them back on.
  5. a common fault; have been threads about it before on here as well. mine went a few months ago, used to get the plastic burning smell of a morning when first starting the car. same wire had done same damage to fusebox and the lid. caused by high resistance/poor contact under the terminal-it had burnt away the fuse underneath and left a thin strand of fuse in place!! got one from fords (
  6. ford handbook says 5-30, but vw say pds are 5-40-i would rather trust the maker than the badge provider. but get the 5-40pd oil from ford dealer!!!
  7. allow a couple of hours to do the pollen filter; 1. while you are there you can get at the brake fluid to check level properly !!! in fact i done my fluid change as it was overdue anyway. 2. clean out the tops of the suspensiom mountings, i filled them with wd40 or engine oil-----in case they ever need to come off.
  8. go to a proper tyre place, tell them whats happened-------------they will have stuff called "bead sealer". the tyre is deflated and the beads broken, so the tyre can be moved off its seating then its painted onto the wheel rims where they are pitted/corroded. its like liquid rubber, then they inflate the tyre again, thats it. ripfit cant make money doing things like this so they dont push it, instead they put the onus on the driver to get new wheels!! smaller tyre places will do it and probably only charge to re-balance afterwards ????
  9. its quite common, other posts on here mention it and my own mk2 tdi also wears the rear tyres same as yours. i have put mine on a 4 wheel aligner several times, every time the back end is in spec, so i just adjust front alignment. it seems to be a galaxy oddity ???
  10. how about water pump impellor fallen off ??? engine would heat up quick as no water gets circulated, but standing still it would also overheat and push water out the top ?? do some searching on here and i hope its only the pump
  11. Thank you open tailgate; right hand top corner---pull the rubber boot carefully out of the car body, as you look inside it you will find wires that the insulation is cracking!! theres bound to be one thats snapped, all i do is find a piece of wire the same size (and colour as i am fussy) and repair the wire and extend it a few inches at the same time. the problem is there are so many wires going through the rubber boot that they trap each other and snap. next time mine go i am goingto halve the amount of wires in the rubber boot and extend some so that they pass through the passenger side boot along with the screenwash pipes. admittedly more wiring to install but hopefully i will spend less time doing gynacologist repairs inside the drivers side rubber boot !!
  12. I'm afraid to say that the gearbox has to come off. It's a concentric slave cylinder which completely encircles the input shaft of the gearbox. What a stupid idea. and while the box is out, may be time for a new clutch ?? also check dual-mass flywheel at same time. i know people on here have done their own galaxy clutches, its one job i will gladly pass to a clutch centre/trade place to do !!! even i have a certain level of stupidity------it stops at galaxy and landrover clutches !!!
  13. tailgate wiring again; one wire breaks and it causes gremlins....and the tailgate rubber boot is where they live. buy yourself a decent soldering iron, some heatshrink tubing and get used to doing at least 1 wire every few months!!
  14. I agree with the first part of what you say but the main reason this is a good idea is because we are all fed up with rip off Britain and the MOT is so often a rip off with unscrupulous garages robbing us all blind and just using the MOT as a tool to charge for things that may not need doing. Self regulation works - up to a point. MOT muggers have gone past that point. you have fallen into the "padded trap"; the one that says we are fed up paying for mot tests every year. the government WANT you to agree to it, thinking you are
  15. 100% disagree with the 2 year testing idea !!! i see the heaps of badly-maintained scrap that appear to be tested yearly!! the arses are falling out of some cars so badly due to; 1...a lack of maintenance to the car 2...the r-sole behind the wheel that is so incompetant at even being safe/familiar with the car they drive!! cars with bald tyres, broken springs, wishbones hanging off, snapped rear shockers--------------all thses items can be heard and felt by the driver, even passer-by can see a knackered tyre. but the car is still driven in that state until the car fails the mot test. "i didnt know,i didnt see,i didnt hear,i didnt feel" all the common replies when you tell the diver why its failed. if such ignorant people can drive a car around for a year in a dangerous condition, giving them an extra year to do so will surely lead to accidents/deaths caused by mechanical failures ??????? dont be fooled that the goverment knows it will be a safe decision (how many of them are mot testers or mechanics ??) the only reason they have come up with the idea is so the motorist votes for them , because they saved him the price of an mot test..............
  16. guiness book of records ???? how about using one from eurocarparts??? will probably be a german make so should be ok??? mine on 147k (touch wood) cv boots ok---just eats tyres !!! as of december, inner cv boots will now become a fail item.
  17. one of the nicest, visitor friendly sites this side of the berlin wall.............
  18. yes you do, load rating is 95.
  19. ignition switch faulty, usually vauxhalls that do this and then destroy their starter motors!!!! needs new switch before it costs loadsa money !!!!
  20. 1. the tyres are federal, cheap ones but reinforced extra load rating (95)-----i wouldnt buy them again !!! pressures all ok, and guaranteed 4 wheel aligned 2 or 3 times each and every year. 2. i must be the most horrible mot tester on the planet as well ????
  21. the remaining tread pattern ( outside the centre 3/4 band that must have 1.6mm minimum tread depth) has to show the original, unbroken tread pattern. the 2 tyres i put on about 18 months ago have only done less than 10,000 miles and they have worn on the shoulders too!! i know the alignment is spot on as i do it myself several times a year as part of my job, so i assume its a galaxy trait ????
  22. You legend! Thanks to your wonderful helpful instructions and the part we purchased on eBay, we were able to remove our problematic heater control panel. It was frequently blowing fuse 32 and thanks to you, we were able to get it out and replaced! Brilliant - thank you! "legend" must show that to my mrs later, as she says i am a bad anorak !!!! i tend to spend time on different forums putting stuff on----she says it keeps me occupied, i say it keeps the kids away from me !!!
  23. liverpool postcode !!! 11 years ncd protected; 2000> lx ,90 bhp, garaged and bog standard car........ sainsburys 900+ meerkat 609 priviledge 726 asda 501 rac 535 aa 493 tesco ---------------
  24. switch ignition on so you can tell its NOT working, then start tapping it with a pair of pliers or a screwdriver--- to see if it does kick in ?? if it does after you belted it, more than likely it needs the brushes doing.
