Hi, I wonder if anyone else has had similar problems....... I know that the Powershift gearboxes are not known for their reliability, I wonder if some of you experienced people could advise me on the following:- Vehicle: 2011 Ford Galaxy 2.0 TDCi Mileage: 106,000 Gearbox: Auto, 6 Speed Powershift Fault: Over approx the last 10,000 miles the car has been ‘hunting’. When driving along at a steady speed eg 40 mph the rev counter will cycle up and down by about 250 RPM, you can feel the car pulsing with these changes, it cycles around once per second. Under acceleration it doesn’t do it, only at steady speeds. It feels like the torque converter lockup of a conventional auto box. If the speed is increased to 70 mph it stops doing the cycling. One other symptom is when moving off the take up of drive can be quite aggressive and the changes are not smooth or progressive, it seems to jump around between 3 and 4 for a couple of seconds. Im told this is a known issue with PowerShift boxes at it needs rebuild / replacing. Is it likely that replacing the fluid and filter would resolve the above issue or is it really new gearbox time? Is an oil and filter change likely to be the magic it needs to function correctly again or do you think it's kippered and needs replacing? Thanks - John

Theyre a million miles away from a 'glorified manual box' Theyre a dual clutch box, the first clutch gives drive to gears 1,3 & 5, the second clutch to 2, 4 & 6. Theyre very efficient compared to a conventional box both in terms of energy efficiency and in performance (no other box can change gear as quick). Original concept by Volkswagen.

Always good getting a new (to me) car. This MKIII is now telling me on and off that the bonnet is open (its not). Having a look under the bonnet I cant see any normal type switches for this function, am I right in thinking it's part of the bonnet lock (it looks like it has some wiring going to it). Thanks in advance. J

I've had a MKII since 2003, 1.9 Ghi Auto, it's been a dream car but now replaced (up for sale cheap if anybody wants it). I've replaced it with a 2011 Titanium 163 BHP Auto. As always there are a few issues, child locks malfunction and the parking sensors don't work. With my old Gal I used VAG-COM due to it being Veedub consortium, what would you guys recommend for this Gal for dealing with faults such as the ones above? Thanks in advance. J

Southern Softie..... ;) We're on the beach up here.....now that the sea has thawed out... Still not done it, maybe this weekend, depends on the weather. J

We've got a 115 TDi Auto, 2003 had it from new, no problems apart from the aux heater. MPG always mid to high 40's even round town and the autobox is superb, very smooth, responsive. J

Vagcom Anybody Please..
johnb80 replied to swifty's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thats the same as my lead, works fine and you can access the Aux Heater, I have the same job to do (reports glowplug open circuit). Use VagCom Ver 3 or 4, BigKev checked mine out first that gave me the nudge to try my lead and get the software etc. J -
Ford Galaxy Meets Renault Megan

Thanks guys. Don't think I have much to go on with the speedo as it's an intermittent fault and the vehicle has a years MOT so I would hazard a guess it was working at the time. The airbag is another matter entirely and I will be giving them a call about it. The vehicle is clearly not as described / you were told. You need to put in writing that due to the current faults (list of faults) the vehicle is not fit for purpose and you will give the dealer 28 days to make good by refund/replace or repair. If not, off to the small claims court. Ask yourself this, if you knew of the faults that you have discovered would you have still bought the car, if yes then go to your friendly garage and pay to have it fixed, if no then you've been done and should get some compensation. Is there a fuse for the glow plug?? J

I have glowplug open circuit fault so it looks like glowplug time! Got VagCom up and running with the lead I had, cleared the fault, restarted and it was back straight away. Thanks for your help guys (& Gals). J

Hi Kev, You're the man, very impressed with VagCom, I've found my lead, just got to get the software now, any recommended sites? Thanks again - J

Which Antifreeze To Use?
johnb80 replied to Keanu's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Can I do this? Is there a sump plug somewhere under the radiater itself? If so where? Drop the bottom hose off the rad. J -
Oops, just read your earlier post, Gainsthorpe, is that just North East of Kirton Lindsey up towards the M180? J

What do you think to this part of the world? where exactly are you located? Yeh got Vagcom, seems to be working ok on windows 7, should just be a case of resetting the flameout fault logs. Sounds good, when would be a good time it's bloody freezing in this Gal at the moment? (warning mumof4 may will be with me) I heard you were teaching mumof4 to fly ( never heard it called that before  ). Tut tut....... don't know what you mean  J

Hi Big_Kev, hows it going? Maz told me you were moving up here. Do you by any chance have Vag Com and the know how on this one? Must get together, come and have a laugh look at mumof4 flying, she's completely nuts. Nice to hear from you. J

I sort of got out of cars for a while and the Galaxy's behaved itself really well. As always though it was too good to last and I've been driving it the last few days and it's bloody awfull without the heater, need to get it reset and see if it will light up. I've been concentrating on my flying quite a bit, teaching mumof4 to fly has also been fun. Now joined the caravan brigade and am really enjoying the time with it. This year I'm going to flying events I wouldn't normally go to because I can now drag my accomodation with me. To those of you who 'hate them bloody caravans' I do try to be accomodating and usually pull over when I've collected a minimum of 50 cars behind me and theyve been there for 30 minutes or more. It seems a bit odd round here now, I haven't been on here for about 18months! I'm sure I'll get to know whats going on from you know who...... Regards - J

I have a 2003 MKII Galaxy and the usual winter problem no aux heater. I absolutely refuse to take it to the stealer, what VAG COM lead do I need and what version of software if anyone can point me to the sellers (ebay?) I'd appreciate it. Mine has done the 5 failed attempts and needs the counter resetting, I intend replacing the glowplug first. Any help appreciated, if theres anyone within travelling distance of Gainsborough that has the gear, I'd be happy to come to you and give you a few beer tokens to reset it for me. Thanks - John

Had A New Windscreen Fitted Today..

Amazes me how people can't be arsed to look at a policy but can be arsed to post on here suggesting someone might be committing fraud and furthermore suggest abuse of admin rights. I think this said person owes mumof4 a serious apology. Regards - J -
Just thought you lot might like to see Maz'z new abode. This one she legged it when the estate agent said the roof was meant to be like that. http://www.lincit.myzen.co.uk/jb1/DSC_0139.JPG She finally settled on this one: http://www.lincit.myzen.co.uk/jb1/DSC_0140.JPG She can be seen here getting a well deserved cuppa after moving in: http://www.lincit.myzen.co.uk/jb1/DSC_0142.JPG Regards - J

Pipes Been Blasted Off. Catalytic Converter Faulty?
johnb80 replied to forfpablo's topic in Trainee member help
Just make sure there are no under lying problems that blocked the 1st CAT, you don't want it happening again!!!! Regards - J -
Mumof4 received terrible news today, BT sent her a nice letter explaining that her phone line would not be connected today as agreed but of FRIDAY. She is absolutely gutted and is showing major signs of withdrawal symptoms. You really must be nice to her when she returns....... but until then P A R T Y T I M E hehe

Good luck with the move and I hope the weather is kind to you as it was to Maz. 90 minutes load up, 75 mins drive, 90 minutes unload and a lifetime for her to sort it all ! Regards - John

Drove the truck for Maz yesterday in order to avoid a huge increase in road death tolls in Lincolnshire. I can confirm Maz is now installed in her new home without a phone line. Her move went smoothly (well as smoothly as moves can go) and she didn't have any raised voices all day ! She should be back with you all on Monday evening or thereabouts if she can find the PC (we've hidden it). Regards - John

Pipes Been Blasted Off. Catalytic Converter Faulty?
johnb80 replied to forfpablo's topic in Trainee member help
It sounds very much like a blocked cat OR a blockage further down the system. The CAT is the most likely candidate. I would imagine the sensor is there to detect the CAT becoming blocked, maybe yours wasn't working! I would not blow air into the sensor pipes. You need to remove the cat and have a look at it, make sure the rest of the exhaust is clear. You could knock the honeycomb out of the CAT and put it back on to get you mobile until a new cat can be obtained. I would suggest you look on the net for a cat NOT the local stealer. Regards - J
