this reminded me of some past satellite/cable installers from here sky news item

likely to be a dirty turbo vane problem - usually happens over 3k revs engine detects a pressure/boost problem and ecu puts it in to 'limp home mode'. Will reset on restart until problem is detected again see here for diy solution !!

recently we had the white smoke and like yours it came from the exhaust as well as from the junction of the exhaust and heater - I did buy another glow plug but before I could fit it the thing started firing up again

how about broken insulation and short circuits??

back to the broken wires/insulation in door to pillar rubber boots again i would suspect as a first port of call - cheapest options first :D :D :(
