  1. When I was removing connection from the glowplug it took less than half a turn of the nut to come off, I didn't really register this at the time it was only upon reassembly with the new plug (identical thread length) I reaslised that a good 5mm of thread was visible when the nut was tight. Even with this poor contact I would have thought enough current would get through the plug for the fault code not to read as 'Open circuit' since there was some contact. Jim the mechanic I spoke to said he had cleared the fault on thursday but that he thought that it would need clearing again after correction - contrary to the info posted on this site, I must have been pretty close to to the 5 times then lockout attempts by Monday morning although it occurs to me that not all fault codes would have this lockout built in since in this case repeated retrys would have little in the way of safety implications 9i await correction) There was only a smear of fresh diesel on the glowplug - presumably from the few starting attempts since thursday. ?DTC?
  2. Galaxy is bigger than zafira - and the two back seats in the zafira are not very good, how about a roof rack to help with the space. You can certainly stack up cases behind the rear seats of the Gal, useful to have the load net in these circumstances. We've had a 3 wheeler bugger and 5 holdalls behind the rear seats without problems - Hope this helps
  3. Since mine are removeable - they won't be in the car most of the time - have to watch/listen to enough of Kipper and Dora the explorer already. When parked up I tend to throw a blanket over the headrests - given the rest of toddler junk in the car it looks quite natural.
  4. Well lo and behold I moved the gal out of the way of my car this morning and turned off the ignition - 'whats that sound' sure enough the aux heater was working beautiffuly - no smoke - gentle humming sound and a trace of smell warm pipes and mini exhaust YIPPEE Thanks for everyones help on the aux heater problem - so Ive got a spare glowplug
  5. Nope, was trying to locate the temp sensor to short out but even if I'd found it the engine was probably still too warm fior the heater to start firing. Can't think how to troubleshoot given the conditions required for ignition.
  6. Oh Bugger - 45mins to change glowplug - old glowplug looked pristine and covered with diesel unfortunately the old one worked fine on a 8A powersupply. Only hope is that the connection was poor - almost fell off when glowplug removed. Given the fault code was 'glowplug openn circuit' where do I go from here ????
  7. Will you do 10K in 9 months on Lewis???? if not get it serviced before you go - I'm sure an extra one would be fine :D :D
  8. No problem - and welcome to the site and the pleasures of Galaxy ownership
  9. Cheers Mike, I was looking at your info (and source for glowplug) when I did it. Unfortunately it took longer than your 10 mins - it took a while to figure out how to remove it in low light conditions and the bracket at the front end stayed firmly attched to the car even with both bolts removed - eventually I worked out that the cage needed to be tight (so I put the nuts back on) and leant on it a bit before the bracket gave way. I removed the air intake (if thats what it is next to exhaust) and disconnected the plug but did not remove fuel pipe. Does it just pull off??
  10. I did replace the screw IIRC I used a screwdriver bit and a small spanner across the hexagon, talking of the junk needing removal - a portable potty   with plastic bags and absorbent liners - unused I hasten to add.
  11. Talking to a ford mechanic last week he reckons that they have changed the glowplug because the original spec one wasn't hot enough, had my gal in for a 50k service and he checked the fault code as 'glowplug open circuit'. I've got a replacement (from Han motors in Birmingham who have soome on the shelf now) I just need to fit it. I dropped the heater off last week but couldn't find the correct torx (in my shed) to remove the black covers and so in fading light I refitted the heater - will have another go tomorrow. Ps Mechanic from ford says you can get the glowplug from them !
  12. from ad on ebay "These are brand new and come complete with fitting instructions" Phew I'm glad they have the fitting instructions with them
  13. yep bracket has to come off - before realising this I spent about 30 mins jiggling assembly trying to do it without
  14. we had this, gave them a quick clean with soapy water - worked fine - got to be worth a try (ps they didn't look very dirty)
  15. I've seen a couple of child killers like this on ebay
  16. deja vu ???? Sure i've seen this before

  18. If yours is the PD engine I think from comments on here that due to the pressures exerted you need a 505.01 (IIRC) spec oil such as Formula SD - (I think the VW version is Quantum??) and Millers do one PD???? I'm led to believe that the type of oil in this engine is critical !!
  19. Yes you should have
  20. And ask them not to overfill, another popular problem, I usually get about 0.5l left in the formula SD can - IIRC it takes about 4.5l for an oil change.
  21. My understanding is that the 'trip computer & cc' is present already but needs enabling using a vag-com, certainly after changing the instrument pod the dealer 'forgot' to enable our trip computer (on ghia) and the mechanic sat and enabled it on the spot (5 mins) - he said they all have the trip but it is only enabled on the ghia!!!!!
  22. Hi Ivor - have you had a chance to look at your vag-com and heater yet - I'm following this thread avidly since I'm trying to persuade SWMBO that I need to buy a vag-com to sort ours out (really)
