I thought that pre-facelift(2000) needed the RED key to code and post facelift need two keys to code the third - but I am often wrong  Ford charged
-
probably indicates that it does not need to be 'reset' then

This seems familiar after changing brake pads This was the start of a long saga which has not been sorted yet - still waiting for the new new instrument cluster to sort out the fuel gauge problem which appeared after changing the instrument cluster to sort out the brake pads warning light problem :D :D :D Fuel gauge problem - introduced by almost solving the check pad problem ! Sorry you asked ????
-
surely that was the one after the one that disappeared :D :D ;) :D :D

Have you had any work done where the loom may have supported the weight of the box, this is known to break some of the conductors and cause problems if the box is not properly supported!!!

Star wars day

apparently its now called 'Quantum entanglement'

Hi Smurf Yes this is a known problem with some facelift gals, ours does it on the level more often than not and never goes back to normal without restarting the car. It does appear to happen more often when its cold but that may be a coincidence. Ps Have'nt got the bulletin number but Ford do recognise the problem, although reading zero is not the only version, somebody I can't remember who has their gauge stuck on full and by now be on 30K mpg :) :( :( . The 'chief mechanic' at our dealership seems to think it is a problem with a combination of instrument cluster and sender in the tank and seems to think that both will be changed.
-
They set the mileage back to what it was :( - despite a few hints to the mechanic :( . My main worry is that the 3 year warranty runs out at the end of May and although I've been reassured by the 'chief mechanic' that it will be replaced I'm not sure the management of the dealership will agree so ~ I will have to pop in soon and 'remind' the management of the problem. I would be interested if anybody has had this fixed recently to lend some weight me putting pressure on the dealership. The 'chief mechanic' says he has three gals to do when the fix comes out.
-
Yep those are our symptoms exactly. They tried replacing the whole instrument cluster again but new new cluster did not read speed correctly so I'm back to cluster 2. I'm currently waiting to hear ...... about the fix but the wife's been a bit poorly so I'm a bit busy with the kids - not had a chance to chase my 'friendly' mechanic yet. :(

It appears that Formula S is a different viscosity class - API SG/CD than Formula SD (for pumpe duse engines) - API SJ/CF the formula S is what ford use on the 2.5TD engine in the Scorpio (IIRC), I think that the SJ/CF is a better!!!! class than SG/CD so probably its still not the correct oil. If they gave you the bottle for top ups post the numbers on the back or compare with http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/Forum/index.p...indpost&p=13009 Who knows how much difference it makes but from the general opinions in this forum the oil is important. -
Looking at some ads on ebay the Ka variants appear different from most of the others

What the manual says 40K service Lots of folks have posted on this topic and the majority seen to think that the oil type is very important see thread 'Oil Question' recently. Oil Question -
Ours were fine - no brake pad light- until the 30k service, had them changed then ping on comes the brake pad warning light, Ford then changed the pads (story related elsewhere on the site) said it was fine - drove down the road and ... ping brake pad warning light so they then changed the instrument pod (apparently known fault on early facelift gals - we had very early pod). The old lady then managed 110kph across the forecourt!!! They changed it back and Ford have been working on a fix for the instrument cluster. We are still waiting for a replacement (as are some others on this site) to correct this and/or fuel gauge problems. I think these link to some of the posts.. fuel gauge problems brake pad warning light

Apologies Grovel Grovel :(
-
Surely on the left where it says '1.9 TDi Ghia X FORD GALAXY 1997' under 'vehicle type' is a BIG BIG clue !!!! :(
-
Both times we have had our instrument pod changed (under warranty) they reprogrammed the correct mileage into it  not that we hinted orherwise you understand :D
-
I was dubious that my local ford dealer would use the correct oil so I asked them to give me the remaining 0.5l (4.5l for oil change) for top ups between services. So far Ive not had to top up but it gave me some assurance that 1) they did not overfill it and 2) they used the right stuff (I know. . I Know. . they may have used their standard oil  and just put 0.5l in a spare SD container to give me but short of standing over them whilst they do the change I could think of nothing else. :D ) They seemed quite happy with this which means I probably misjudged them :P
-
Had a look in Halfords locally but they had nothing that met the 505.01VW spec (lots at 505.00 which was no good :o )
-
from the manual

First service on our new to us (bought at 20K ish) galaxy at 30k they replaced the passenger side anti roll bar under warranty, IIRC olny got any noise braking at low speed going down a speed hump or pointing slightly down hill

Oops shows my ignorance of petrol variants - apologies :)
