Couldn't disagree more, in the winter we often use the Gal for post walk picnics, the kids will often opt for these rather than mcdonalds :D they love the seats swivelled around couple of middle row seats down (better to take out rear left middle seat then 4 month old can lay on a blanket sfter his dinner) :D :P

could there be an airlock in the coolant pipes to the heater - comes on heats up - doesn't get cool so it switches off due to overtemp - cycle continues ?

Slide middle seats completely forward and the rear seats all the way back, I used to have a thick acetate sheet (thick oht) to stop the fabric catching but usually just hold the fabric now. BTW the design was slightly changed from mk1 to mk2 so it may be different for a 1999 model

I put some of these in an escort - but found I had to repeat the heating cycle a couple of times after they were a few months old - even in mild weather - to get the car started. I eventually gave up and fitted the expensive ford supplied ones (weren't wellman) - these are still going strong after 3 years so given they were at least 4 times the cost they have to last another year to break even :lol: .

I thought the 1.9 PD tdi had a rev limiter which cut in just above 4k - perhaps 4.3k

The fuel gauge problem is a known fault at least for early new shape galaxies ours needed a new instrument cluster and fuel level sender to cure after much argument a year out of warranty with Ford, I would think the extra fuel consumed would be due to the aux heater although I thought it cut out when the coolant temp was high enough so it shouldn't run for that long, Having said that I have noticed that it kept running long after the coolant temp was high, subsequent restarts did not restart the heater.

I thought all new shape tdi's were pd engine ??? (don't know about LX's though)

really - my ford dealer always uses 'formula sd' and thay give me the extra 0.5l in the original container, this way I can be reasonably sure they haven't over filled it and I can top up between services

If its a PD then 5W40 either Millers XFE-PD 5W40 (to vw 505.01 spec or Formula SD 5W40, available from the parts dept. of the larger Ford dealers
