  1. Sorry - I wasn't suggesting the maf was the problem, given the maf is a hot film type which relies on cooling to detect the mass of air flowing, hot air would cool less than cold air, the intake air temp sensor could then compensate - if it was u/s - sending an incorrect reading the ecu would set the mixture incorrectly - disconnecting may force the ecu to use a default value which while not the most efficient would be fail safe enabling the engine to run ok
  2. Ah a thought - could be significant in compensating for how cold the air is cooling the hot film of the maf - which would affect mixture - possibly significantly
  3. trouble is with the info given I can't see how the router is connecting to the internet, apart from cable modems I can't find a linksys wireless - G router with built in adsl modem so whats making the connection - is justice using an ethernet based adsl modem or a usb type - not enough info yet
  4. you missed 'Spider catcher'
  5. some progress anyway working a bit blind here without more detail - exact model would help + title on the tab of the dialog box I have to assume you have connected the router to both the pc (yes) the phone line or other router connecting to the internet (thats why I need the model number) have you set up the internet connection settings as supplied by your isp is this dialog box "basic setup" or "network setup" what type of connection are you using - are you connecting through a router an adsl modem or what, does your isp assign you a static ip address, or a dynamic address,
  6. is it a WRT54GL? have you set it up before with a password, it may be a good idea to reset to factory defaulkt settings - if its the one above hold the rest button on the back in for more than 5 sec if not check the manual
  7. does it say that its the wrong password or does it just hang, have you tried setting it up before - exactly what linksys router is it ?
  8. I guess that since they monitor the air intake temperature it must have some bearing on engine running - mixture preparation so if its not working properly disconnecting it might default to a failsafe value - flying a kite here
  9. No I think you need the 4 digit code from the manufacturer then you can use vag-com to match the new key/transducer  see link to post from Masked Marauder here
  10. ah just found your car details - Since the upgrade vehilcle details don't appear anymore - most of us are putting them in the signature line. Unfortunately it doesnt change the answer sorry
  11. could do with a bit more info - car/year etc assuming its a post 97 car then your only chance is someone with a vag-com and the 4 digit immobilizer code - available from you guessed it a - dealer think you don't have a choice its easier to go to a dealer - and get a second working key - after that get a spare which you can program yourself
  12. if it is droplink you might find this link from the faq useful Link to anti-roll car thread
  13. definitely anti roll bar - droplink - common problem
  14. sorry I havent - Dave in luton, and Masked marauder in northamptoin are the closest I know about, register in frappr (see general discussion and nonsense) see the locations
  15. maybe a droplink - do a search - doesn't knock all the time, difficult to find any play by pulling it though
  16. Half-term holiday for me
  17. 4/5 mpg depending on driving conditions see thread here don't know about a vr6 - only got a tdi
  18. hmmm, when i forst got the VR6, i noticed that it used alot of fuel (NOTHING ELSE)....but there was plenty of power. I asked VW to check it and they said a faulty MAF. they replaced it...everything was alright...i opened the bonnet to put some water in and the MAF wasn't even connected! when i connected it, it didn't feel any different! In that case they probably never replaced it either - hope they didn't charge you too much - :)
  19. Just unplugged the sensor and drove it up my least favourite local hill. What a difference! It can pull the skin off a rice pudding after all. So I assume the next step is to buy a new one then eh! yep, the obvious thing to do is to buy a new one- may get a cheap one from your local breakers. What if Big Al left it unplugged? does he still have to get a new one or can he just leave it like that? difference with a new one will be huge and will make a difference to mpg
  20. Are there any tests that can be carried out on the MAF Sensor to confirm whether it is functioning corectly or not? yes disconnect it - no improvement or stays the same definitely the Maf, but even if it gets worse it still could be the maf - read the threads above see my post here tbh - symptoms appear to be classic maf, although it doesn't always throw a fault code for garage to read
  21. Thanks... good idea. Do I connect all pins together, or which way does the layout work here?. Thanks Rob I assume from the diagram you need to bridge contacts 1 & 2 - black/yellow to red wire (not absolutely sure of the colour codes for the wires
  22. bit late for an inspection in 02 though  answer coming .......
