Remote Window Closure?
iainkirk replied to mike99's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
like you might accidently trap your kids hand (or wifes tongue <_< ) if accidently activating global closing (e.g - popped into shop/petrol station with keys in pocket - global closing activated whilst extracting your wallet :o It sould be noted that the window will if closed from the inside stop when it meets an obstruction and wind down some way - this safety feature is DISABLED when closing the windows from the outside of the car - global closing. IIRC it is also disabled if youy try and close the windows 3 times from the inside as well ;) Soooo.....4 goes and I can chop the dog's head off!!! -
Have you tried finding the parts that ARE Ford... AFAIK there aren't any under the bonnet (unless you've got a 2.3), however if you disregard the Front and rear badges, Ghia badge, interior trim and the dials, it must be: Steering wheel, stereo (mind you, the stereos in Galaxies ARE NOT the same as the ones with the same model numbers in other Fords!), five wheels on a Ghia/Zetec (or possibly 4, as the steely might be VeeDub), CD Changer, errr...that's about it! Hang on....there is that round Ford badge that sits on the engine cover in the VW circle...

My Galaxy was castrated ages ago! The main problem is the cranked wheel nut spanner they supply with the car - a design fault if ever I saw one. They probably couldn't have designed a better angled tool for stripping the sides off the lock nut! Mind you, my alloys are in such a 'standard' Galaxy condition (oops there goes another flake...), nobody is going to bother stealing them. If they did however, I'd be over the moon!

Central Locking And Other Electric Faults

Someone might do that someday, when we've finished finding everything that goes wrong with them!!! -
You used to be able to get red (Paddy Hopkirk??) ramps for vans. These were a lot larger than the car ones. Don't know if you can still get them. I've got a '2T' Hafords trolley jack. Cost me about

Flywheel is a two-part affair and mine had become a 1-part affair. Not included in recent recall unfortunately, as that only applies to 130's. Found to be knackered whilst other work was being done (witnessed it come out of the car myself). Went in for a CV joint and exhaust replacement, came out 3 weeks later with the dealer having 'spent' over

Special Status For Long Standing Members
iainkirk replied to a topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
As a fairly early member, I say NO to this idea. There's not many members around from the 'early(ish) days'. I can only think of Ivor E Tower, Italiastar and myself (plus a few more every time I try and think.....) I suppose you could have a category of member according to the TIME they've been a member, rather than the amount of spam, sorry, number of posts, that they've posted. For example, anyone who has been a member for 3 years could have the category of "Been Here Too Long Member" or something similar! -
There is a sensor on the flywhweel. I had a seized flywheel (non-recall) and when they replaced it and put it back together, I had a misfire too. When they eventually found the problem and gave me the car back they said that the sensor had been damaged during the flywheel change. New sensor fitted, misfire gone! She's now driving like new!

Remote Window Closure?
iainkirk replied to mike99's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
No. Can only be done with the key in the door lock. -
"Ex-airport" and 90-100k miles says "Taxi" to me... Seriously though, that mileage on year-old vehicles will surely take it's toll. I would suspect that the 'usual' warranty repairs (drop links, spare wheel carrier, aircon, leaks etc) won't have been done and the warranty has been and gone. You're also probably looking at potential gearbox problems, worn out brake discs all round, CV joints, flywheel, clutch etc..
-
I've come across this with other cars without a spare wheel. Breakdown companies WILL attend if your make and model of car is not supplied with a spare wheel when sold brand new.

My old Mk1 GLX V6 Gal had steelies as well - only Ghias and Ghia X's had alloys in the old days.

Mk2 115pd Cv Joint Replacement - How Much?
iainkirk replied to iainkirk's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
They've now had my Gal for over two weeks!! Still not fixed...they're changing the injectors now to see if that's causing the misfire which they tell me it has now got!!! AND they discovered that the flywheel was u/s apparently. Can't quite understand how I was managing to drive the car if that was the case??? If I have to drive round in this poxy Fester courtesy car for much longer I will SCREAM! The only benefit is that the miles are going on their car and not mine. But 140 miles/day isn't in a Fester isn't First Class driving. I thought they might have fixed it whilst I was away - been to Espana for 4 nights. Got back yesterday and phoned the Stealer....still haven't changed the injectors....GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Sadly the Gal will probably be going as soon as I've got her back and MOT'd her, as a) I suspect the downward spiral of repairs is approaching :D I can make 6p/mile profit driving a 2.2 Vectra SRi (I'm currently losing 3p/mile) c) I think I ought to let someone else take her past the 100,000 mile mark and d) I want something with a warranty again!! -
Unfortunately mine is a 115 and my flywheel has seized, so the garage tells me. Stealer checked with Ford and the definitely aren't covered by the recall. Somehow it IS a different flywheel. Answers on a postcard... They've still got mine in the workshop....new flywheel, new N/S CV joint, engine out, engine in, recharge aircon, empty bank account...

Is it 55mph or an identical rev range in each gear?

From recent experience, that will be thhe CV joint breaking up on the nearside. Sounds all too familiar. -
Mk2 115pd Cv Joint Replacement - How Much?
iainkirk replied to iainkirk's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
Out of warranty unfortunately. UK warranty is 3yrs/60,000 miles. European warranty (mine) is 2yrs/unlimited miles. I'm guessing the garage think they've fooked it up... -
Mk2 115pd Cv Joint Replacement - How Much?
iainkirk replied to iainkirk's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
87000 miles. Maybe it is something else. I don't think it can be cambelt related, can it? (cambelt service one week before it went wrong), however see my other post on the cambelt thread about the vibration they had 'fitted' at 2000-2200 rpm. It was driveable after it went bang and the banging appeared to be coming from NS driveshaft area - ie more prevalent on right turn and never banged in reverse etc. On Wednesday night and then Thursday they told me that the car wasn't ready as they were waiting for power steering fluid to be delivered. I told them to walk round to the Audi dealer next door as they are bound to have some. That didn't happen obviously! They've still got the car - they're telling me they've fitted it with a misfire now!!!! FFS. I thought something was wrong as they weren't returning my calls!! They're now swapping parts with a 'donor' vehicle (presumably forecourt stock!!!!) to try and determine what is causing the misfire. God help us all!! Spoke to a local VW dealer and they confirmed that the engine stays in for CV joint replacement, so will be taking this up with the Fraud Stealer when they finally fix my Gal. As they removed the engine they have obviously emptied and refilled the aircon - wouldn't have been necessary if the engine stayed in. Also ended up with new front and tail exhaust as they were rusted to hell (I knew that - it needs one for next month's MOT, but why didn't they tell me it was blowing when they serviced it recently???). I'm beginning to think that they did something wrong at the recent cambelt change and that's sent everything haywire - is that possible??? I think they've made an arse of it and can't fix it. We shall see. -
Air Con Paranoia...
iainkirk replied to El Dingo's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
You don't get 40p back off the taxman or 25p - you get tax relief on the difference between the rate you are paid (12p) and 40p or 25p per mile. ie, if you're a 22% tax payer, you get 6.16p/mile back for the first 10000 miles and 2.86p/mile for the remainder. For 40% tax band, the figures are 11.2p and 5.2p/mile respectively. Mine's funded the same way: Car allowance, mileage rate and tax relief. Tax relief only works for temporary locations of course. If you work in a permanent location, it's not reclaimable. -
Mine originally came up on insurance websites as a 2.8 V6. It's a TDI.....but an imported one however.
