I'm sure I've read about this ages ago but I'm unable to find the topic again so I apologise for raising it again. Should the two drink holders just above the radio illuminate in the dark? If so, could someone tell me how to replace the led/lamp. I'm almost positive that mine used to light up or am I going crazy!!!! Thanks.

Drivers Window.
chromedome replied to toneinblack's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Just had a similar problem with the wife's Focus. Parts not sold seperately and had to by the whole assembly, called the window regulator. Don't know if it's the same principal with the Galaxy but the part for the Focus was -

Safety first............replace it. I would use an original fit hose. -
New Clutch Judder
chromedome replied to marinabrid's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Just hold the car on a hill for a few seconds using the clutch. Has worked for me in the past. -
Looking at Photo A. At the back of the headlight closest to the wing. The fixing screw is probably about 14" down so it's a long way. It is there, honest.

Look here for bulbs http://www.powerbulbs.com/product_detail.asp?prod=81 I found it is easier to remove the whole light assembly. Remove top two screws. Deep down the side of the light nearest the wing is a screw. You will need a long driver to reach it and a torch to see it. DO NOT REMOVE the screw just slacken off a couple of turns. On the other side of the lamp is another bottom fixing, once again DO NOT REMOVE the screw. The light assembly will now be loose. Put a piece of thin card between the bottom of the light assembly and the bumper, this should prevent the bottom fixings scratching the bumper. Wriggle the unit around and it will come out. Fitting is a reversal of what you just did. Should take you no longer than 10 minutes per side. Most of the time will be spent trying to find the screw near the wing.

Thanks Stevoo I was thinking the same. It's booked in next Friday at the dealers. Getting them to check the aux heater as well whilst still under warranty (just). I wonder if they need to bend my sills to do this job.........................that's another story!!!!

My Galaxy has recently been telling me to STOP check coolant. Have checked and everything looks ok. Restart the car and message goes away, sometimes reappears a few minutes later. Some days all ok. Has anyone got any ideas before I go to the dealers. It's under warranty but if it's something easy....................... Thanks.

Run On Pumped Varied Purring
chromedome replied to naim32's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Yes you are correct, this is a sign that the pump is failing. By moving it about you are flexing the bushes which can make it run or stop. Fairly easy to replace but I believe they are about -
Should be ok in ECON mode. When you switch to AUTO an electronic clutch engages and activates the compressor.
-
Was the heating on "AUTO"? Could be the a/c kicked in and the compresser may be seized. When you put heating back in "ECON" the a/c is switched off.

Its That Dreaded Limp Home Again
chromedome replied to Seatdriver's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If it's only when accelerating lightly it could be the throttle position sensor. The first segment could be worn, as that's used the most, and when you accelerate hard you pass over the worn bit. -
They sell big round pad mounts, made by 3M, on e-bay for 99p. It sticks to the dashboard and gives a smooth surface for the TomTom to stick to. Mines been there months and has not moved, no vibration either which is a bonus.

Intermitent Wipers
chromedome replied to Rusty Nail's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Mine doesn't. I'm not sure if can be enabled in VAG Com. Hopefully one of the resident experts can help with that. I can't see much out of my back window the best of times, someone stuck five seats behind me :o -
Auto Dimming Mirror
chromedome replied to gregers's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
All mine has is a sensor pointing backwards. When you get headlights behind you it automatically dims. The mirror has a plastic shroud that connects to the front overhead courtesy lights. The mirror that is just attached to the windscreen in isolation will not have the dim feature. -
Auto Dimming Mirror

I thought Ghia MK2 models already had it, mine has. Might be worth a double check. -
Car shaking at 40/55 MPH.
chromedome replied to Shanda's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If it's more of a wobble than a shake then the favourite culprit is dry CV joints, common problem not with just the Galaxy. Re-pack the CV joints with suitable grease and the problem normally goes away. It could be drive shaft related but try the easy option first. -
Galaxy 2000 Tdi Starter Problem
chromedome replied to pcshak's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
How old is your battery? Could have a bad cell thus making starting difficult. Get your battery checked. -
From what I've read on the forum, it is probably the gear selector cables. They are a ball and socket type of fixing and it's quite common for them to pop off. People have had limited success repairing them with cable ties etc, but more often than not new cables are required. I can't remember the cost of the cables exactly, around

I remember a friend of mine doing this a few years ago before ECU's, it was a nightmare. New pedal box, new flywheel, new gearbox bell housing, new driveshafts, new gearstick and associated linkage, new hydraulics for the clutch and that's all I can remember off the top of my head. You may need a new ECU if it can't be reprogrammed not to have a gearbox ECU. Come on guys, I know there are some experts on the forum who know a lot more than me.

Smelly Windscreen Water
chromedome replied to suzuki91's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I agree, steer clear of the cheapo screen washes. The Milton fluid trick appears to work from the results posted on the forum. I normally use a general usage mix, never had any problems with freezing. If you have a MK2 they have heated washer jets anyway. I normally have to drain the washers after it's been serviced by the dealership, don't know what they use but................ I usually make sure the washer bottle is full before it goes in for service and then challenge them when they try and charge me -
Galaxy 2000 Tdi Starter Problem
chromedome replied to pcshak's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Possibly not engine seizure then. The starter may have gone short circuit in the electro magnet coils which would explain why extra current is being drawn and the motor not turning. I would suggest trying a new starter. You may want to get your old one tested first just to make sure and not waste any cash. -
Galaxy 2000 Tdi Starter Problem
chromedome replied to pcshak's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Sometimes if you have a bad connection somewhere the starter will draw a lot more amps thus making the wires hot. Check favourites like corrosion on the battery terminals. If there is no sign of any engine movement, then yes possible seizure.
