Just measure the outside of the old belt and it is 1235mm. That's 40mm longer!! -

I'm pretty sure that is the problem. Most garages here seem to use Euro Parts. I will get one from GSF as well. -
Aux Belt Tensioner
chromedome replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have received some photos from insanitybeard, thank you, and I definitely have a problem. His tensioner sits roughly half way of it's travel while mine is up against it's back stop effectively not tensioning the belt. I had the alternator pulley changed some time ago because the tensioner was chattering against the back stop and has never really been resolved correctly. The only work done prior to this was cam belt kit and water pump. I'm wondering if our local parts shop have the wrong belts in the packaging. I checked the length of the belt that has just come off and it was just under 25mm longer than the specified 1195mm. Would a belt stretch this much in about a year? There is a lot of head scratching going on with this at the moment. Any comments welcome. -
The temperature gauge not working, especially this time of year, could be the auxiliary heater not working. The VW engine is very efficient and does not generate enough heat to warm itself up so an auxiliary heater is used to assist this. While standing outside, listen under the front passenger seat for what sounds like a jet engine. No sound no heater. Lots and lots of info on the forum about this.

Aux Belt Tensioner
chromedome replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
seatkid you have mentioned about the tensioner hitting it's end stop in another post about a chattering tensioner. That is where mine is sitting even with new belt and tensioner fitted. This one is driving me crazy. Am I right when I say the engine rotates clockwise when looking at the aux belt end on. If so it doesn't look right on the diagram I have. It would look logical if it rotated anti clockwise. -
Thanks to seatkid I saved a whole heap of cash by not buying a new aux heater. I was having a spot of bother with the aux heater not always firing up and VCDS Lite showed a weird memory error code. I cleaned out the afore mention fan using an air compressor, vacuum cleaner and a brush and voila. Don't spray WD-40 in there. It is a tiny fan mounted on a printed circuit board and you may do more damage plus give something for future dust to stick to. Thanks again seatkid. How on earth did he work it out...............................................????

Not heard of that before. Must be a mod done by a previous owner.

Please can someone supply a photo of their tensioner in situ. Thanks. -
Aux Belt Tensioner
chromedome replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Belt is fitted correctly but the tensioner arm is still touching the body of the tensioner so can't apply any extra pressure, as was the old one. Am I thinking wrong about this? I would have thought the tensioner arm would be held away from the body of the tensioner by the load applied to the belt. The belt length is correct for my vehicle. is there a different length belt for vehicles with dual air con like mine? The only other related thing I have had done is a new alternator pulley fitted. -
General opinion is that the timing belt, pulleys and water pump should all be done at the same time. This is because it is a big job to gain access to any one item so therefore change all.

Would the compressor be suitable for my Galaxy. 2005 130PS?

Aux Belt Tensioner

Thank you -
I have just had a new aux belt and tensioner fitted. I have noticed that the tensioner is sitting in it's un tensioned positioned. I'm wondering if the belt has been fitted incorrectly effectively making it too long. Does anyone know the correct belt routing for my TDI? Thanks.

Yes definitely replace any O rings. There are two amounts of refrigerant listed on a sticker under the bonnet. It you have no vents in the roof above the second and third row of seats then you have single air con and so use the lower amount.

Definitely no flushing oil for me. Thanks all for your input. -
Try posting this in the Mk3 section.

Oil Level Galaxy 1.9 Tdi
chromedome replied to Neilo's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Power steering not working is the worrying one. If you are going around a bend and the steering stops working then you will go straight on. Oil spec is very important on this engine. It is a VW PD engine and the camshaft has very high loads put on it. Incorrect oil will cause the camshaft to wear prematurely. -
Engine Flush Yes Or No
chromedome replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Oil always changed annually/8000 miles with the same make of oil. -
I have been getting some quotes together for a service on my Galaxy. One garage is quoting for an engine flush but I have never heard of this on a diesel engine. I have the VW PD engine which puts a very high loading on the camshaft, hence the special oil, and alarm bells are ringing as to what may happen during an engine flush. Can someone tell me if an en engine flush is ok in my engine. Thank you.

Driver's Electric Window
chromedome replied to rtaecole's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Pleased you got it fixed. One of the reasons the wires break is because they are barely long enough which puts them under a lot of stress. This is penny pinching by the manufacturers, every little bit of wire saved will generate a free one........ If you do any future repairs try and add a piece in. -

I meant to say repaired the resistor pack. Normally just change it. -
Blower Setting 1+2 Not Working
chromedome replied to mattyneale's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If you remove the glove box you will see the resistor pack attached to the side of the blower assembly, usually red or green in colour. Very common and is more than likely the cause of your problem. If you do a search I think someone has managed to fix theirs. -
