Coolant Loss And Air Locks
chromedome replied to sambulance's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Years ago I had a similar problem on a different car. The car would drive every where with absolutely no problems. Go on a long run and it would overheat and of course force coolant out. After a lot of investigation it turned out to be a hose that had gone very soft. Continuous flowing of hot water through it would make it pinch together and restrict the flow of coolant and overheat. Replaced hose and problem went away. It may be worth having a feel around for a super soft hose. Failing this you may need to get the system pressure tested. Hope this helps. -

You need to check that the permanent live is connected. -
Diagnostic Scanner
chromedome replied to Trislander's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
You can download VCDS Lite from Ross Tech for free. Then get an OBD II (I think that's right, check on the forum) lead off e-bay for around -
Remove the auxiliary belt and try starting the car. If a a/c compressor seizes they have been known to snap the belt.

Automatic Gear Box Problem Diagnostic
chromedome replied to Adie271's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I have read lots of posts relating to jerky gear changes and normally it is the ATF (Auto Transmission Fluid) as it deteriorates over time. The ATF has to be at a particular temperature when checking the amount of ATF in the gearbox so this is normally left to a garage you know and trust. Do this as the first step, clear the codes and keep your fingers crossed. -
No Power To Any Systems.
chromedome replied to mike17's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
A standard battery charger only supplies a trickle current and would probably not do anything. Charge the battery for 24 hours and try again. -
Changing Speakers On 01 Galaxy

I assume it's a MK2. Do a search for removing door cards as the speaker grill is part of it. -

chromedome replied to Kevinb's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
seatkid.......is the 507 spec oil ok for pd engines? Just in case it can be found on offer over the 505.0 spec. Thanks. Sorry, just checked and apparently it is. "For all diesel engines year 2000 onwards including pd". -
Flashing Glow Plug Sign
chromedome replied to alexk's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The glow plug light doubles up as an engine management light so you need to look at the fault codes to see what the issue is. -

Wiper Problem - Maybe?
chromedome replied to thumpermike1's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I'm wondering if it's an option that can be set by VAGCOM. -
Is everything electrical working on your rear tailgate? I could be a broken wire in the rubber boot between the body and tailgate. Check wiring thoroughly as wires have been known to break inside the insulation. If this checks out it could be the reverse light switch. I think it's on the gearbox but other forum members should confirm this. Welcome to the forum and please don't "shout" by using large bold text.

I have to agree on older Mk2's I have owned but on my later 05 reg this is quite normal. -
Wiper Problem - Maybe?

This sounds normal. They should return to normal wiping when you move off again. -
After the engine struggling to turn over a few times lately I decided to change the battery. You don't appreciate how bad your old one is until you replace it. I realised the old battery has been on the car from new........................nearly nine years. That is brilliant and I hope the new one gives just as good service. Following another thread on this forum I bought the New Evolution Range Exide (0173TE). Is it physically larger than the standard fit (being 100 ampere hour against 70 ampere hour) but it fits snuggly in the battery tray with no issues. The old battery was also an Exide. Site I used is Battery2U.co.uk. I hope someone finds this useful.

Aux Belt Tensioner
chromedome replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
More on this one. Front bearing in the alternator had gone, apparently caused by the new pulley being over tightened. I do remember the independent saying he used the same air tool used on car wheels to fit it. New Bosch 120 amp, same as fitted, alternator fitted and because the alternator and pulley are the correct ratio the tensioner now sits in the correct position. What a saga this has been and I hope someone gets some help from it. Thanks again for all the replies. Happy New Year to all. -
I have found something called FordETIS. I'll let you know.

Vcds And Auxiliary Heater
chromedome replied to chrislloydie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Sounds like the secondary water pump is failing, common, which then causes the aux heater to shut down due to over heating. There are some threads on the forum where people have repaired or tried to repair them. I think they are around -
Aux Belt Tensioner
chromedome replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Double checked the pulley and I think it is 55mm. I am positive that I ordered the bigger one but I can't find the receipt to prove it. I will let it carry on as it is as you can guarantee the alternator will fail sometime. -

61.5mm dia pulley fitted and the tensioner shown in the diagram looks right. Aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh -
Aux Belt Tensioner
chromedome replied to chromedome's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
GSF belt fitted, still the same problem. We have cut about 3-4mm off the lug of the tensioner and it no longer hits the back stop. It's position changes under different loads as it should. I bought the car when it was six months old and we are thinking it may have the wrong alternator fitted as a replacement when the car was nearly new. Of course the alternator pulley was changed to match the alternator. Hopefully this fix will keep working ok until such time the alternator blows........................ There is plenty of clearance between all the pulleys so we can't foresee any problems. Thank you for every ones input on this one. -

Can I ask what you used to hold back the tensioner to enable fitting of the belt.
