thanks for the help going to do the clutch over the next couple of weekends, One issue I might have is my reg shows the car to have a AFN engine but the engine that is in is a AHU are these two different clutch kits or will the same clutch kit fit both thanks

what about the gear link cables would this give these symptoms thanks ?

update i bled the clutch to day and problem is still the same had a look in the bell housing and there seems to be no obvious leakage dry as far as i could see any other ideas anyone thanks

yeah goes in all gears ok when not running I replaced the clutch/brake fluid about 6 mths ago (brakes/clutch were a bit spongy) so will have a look tomorrow I haven't noticed it slipping tho

H all i have a 1996 mk1 galaxy with a AHU engine and a 5 speed manual gearbox. my gearbox seems to be playing up when im driving going down the gearbox into 1st gear it goes in but with a crunch also when i try reverse sometimes it won't engage i have tryed releasing the clutch and depressing it again it stays the same even putting in other gears then in reverse most of the time this doesnt work but when it does engage reverse there is no crunch just as its supposed to any ideas all other gears 2nd 3rd 4th 5th are ok thanks

Hi all my galaxy seems to be a bit rough when I start it up cold now and again it seems to misfire it also does this when the accelerator is lighltly pressed i.e when tootling along at 30mph in 5th gear this sometimes causes it to judder badly until you put your foot flat down on the pedal or take it off completely then it settles down it seems to do it more when cold but has done the same with engine at norm temp had the vag on and no codes recorded, no air in clear pipe, fuel from the same petrol station as usual/normal colour smoke out back (i.e black) could it be either the injectors if so how can I test them or the glow plugs again how do I test them thanks any ideas would be very helpful thanks

hi d.widdy I adjust my own handbrake to 3 clicks and it hasn't faild yet I would say 6 is too much and if you get a mot done you have a week I think to repair it and take it back to the same place they will check the bits that it failed on then you get the mot don't know if they have to, but most mot places you don't have to pay if its taken back to the same place within this period of time

hi all I have a 1998 gal 1.9 tdi with the AHU (found code on engine) engine fitted but all the auto parts shops say its coming up with the AFN engine I am looking to change my oil/filter, is the fram ph3569 / filtron op 525/3 the right one or is the vw audi 068 115 561 E the right filter thanks for any help

I had problems with my mk1 heater and as said it is clipped to wiper linkages next to pollen/cabin filter just place a paper clip between the two terminals in the clip and this worked spot on I had a few problems with fuel getting to the heater but managed to draw the fuel through with a syringe this seemed to free up the fuel and all is ok now just sounds like a jet engine spinning up

Hi all just wondering does anyone know how many of the little yellow clips you need to put door cards on my 1998 gal my drives side has been taken off before and some of the clips have been snapped off now its loose and rattles thanks for any help will also do front passenger one too and maybe the boot as there is the same rattle from there too thanks

cheers chris bridging the temp switch worked but I didn't need to take bulk head off I could get to it from the gap where the cabin filter is also it fired up the turned off a few seconds after so with the ignition on I used a syringe to draw the diesel through the pipe after about 4 or 5 mins I started to get fuel so popped it back on pump and it fired up a little smoke to begin with but soon cleared and could feel the heat from it's exhaust so it must have worked at lest I know it should kick in now and thanks for your help one last thing is the fuse 24 a 25amp or 20 amp thanks

hi all I have changed the offending heater plug and put the pump back on but as yet I have not heard it kick in yet is there any way I can check that I have the connections connected properly i.e should there be a buzzing noise from the heater also I have noticed some bubbles in the fuel line to it is this why its not firing up? or will the pump get rid of those bubbles when it works I have put fuse 24 back in could the connection inside the pump not be connected thanks

That is what I was thinking could be a nice job for a rainy day can you just buy the replacement linkages or do you have to buy the whole thing thanks again
