  1. If you have a laptop you can get the cable off eBay and the software is free to download must be cheaper than driving ?
  2. Yes thats exactly what it is try your local ford dealer for the socket and wires
  3. Haynes Manual has the wiring diagram you can get them from Halfords or cheaper on eBay
  4. Hi, I have finally got my 1997 2.8 Ghia Auto Galaxy on the road, a couple of teething problems but hopefully fixed by the weekend. While the carr was off the road I swapped the dash for a Twin Display one from a Ghia X, along with the control stalks. This has worked OK but the speedo UNDER-READS by 15MPH so when its indicating 30MPH it is actually 45MPH !, I suspect the dash orginally came from a manual. My question is I need to reset the mileometer from 133 to 166 can I also get the speedo recalibrated ?? Regards Mike
  5. i agree after reading the symtoms it sounds like it is only running on 2 cylinders on occasions! petrol engines give the same if you loose a plug or two. I have not had too much experience with diesels but this looks to me to be the problem. The No1 injector controls the other 3 so if 1 has a fault the other 3 will have a fault I detect your frustration but you need to troubleshoot the problem correctly not just pull plugs off or replace units etc. Running with the MAF disconnected was a really BAD idea you could end up doing more damage than you are trying to fix, modern diesels need some essential electronic devices to run the MAF unit is a key component and as you have seen costs a lot of wonga, likewise the injector harness / system is also a key component and VERY tricky to fix. I don't know your circumstances but is there no one in your family or friends who can help ? also not ALL garages are rip off merchants again get some advice mate before you blow a fuse or blow your engine !
  6. the engine and flywheel are the same the auto version has a Torque converter bolted to the flywheel and the manual has a clutch bolted
  7. According to the owners manual Fuse 14 is 15A and covers reversing lights, elec door mirrors, elec sunroof, Speed Control System (Cruise Control) and Heated Front Screen. Do you have cruise control on yours ?
  8. At this early stage and due to the point that you don't know how long the air-con has been down I would suggest a re-gas as your next step as you need to check the components are not leaking and the pump is running from your description something is cutting out due to a fault.
  9. If you open the sunroof you will see 2 drain holes in the gully at the front corners, a wipe with a cloth should clear them (usually a leaf has blocked the hole) when you pour water down the hole it should exit at the back of the front wheel arch, again that can block at that end and the pipe over time fills up. a trip to the air line and a quick blast should shift it Ok ?
  10. Terry, sounds like you might be on your way to fixing the problem, for future reference please would you indicate year and model of Galaxy please ? mine as you can see from the signature is a 1997 MK1 2.8 Ghia (Go to My Profile and add to your signature year, model type), there are 3 models of Galaxy so it would help us all if you can indicate year, fuel type please ?. Also a quick snapshot with a cameraphone and a picture again is useful. you can upload your photo's to www.photobucket.com its free and resonably straightforward to use Welcome to the forum
  11. The cruise control is a simple device a vacuum pump, pipe and unit on the throttle it adjusts the vacuum to hold the throttle, so yes you will get the light on to indicate the vacuum pump is working but if you have a leak (which is 99% certain what happens) the cruise will not engage. to remove the headlight should be pretty straightforward they are only held in by two screws so have a good look. I wish I had a
  12. the ratchet system is designed to stop you knocking the lever into Reverse or Park so the stops for R and Park are higher than N and D 3 2 1 if you can't push the button in you wont be able to select reverse or Park as the stop needs to come up 2mm higher. So you need to free up the button OK you need to take the selector apart to get the button to pop out again. there is a single screw under the handle, when you loosen this off the handle and cover will pop off you can then have a look. http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o192/Amarokuk/gearchange.jpg
  13. Excellent Fix this is the stuff, I once repaired a radiator with a brass plug from B&Q a lot cheaper than the 200 for a new Rad ! any chance of a photo of the fix ? Camera Phone will do
  14. Terry ? do you have your foot on the brake when you press the button ?
  15. When you fit bigger wheels it has the affect of speeding up the speedo i.e. standard wheels 30 MPH indicated 28MPH actual Bigger wheels 30MPH indicated 25MPH actual the important issue is your speedo don't UNDER read i.e. indicated 30MPH actual 38MPH !! (Flash, Flash, Kerr-Ching money please ) on a personal note I have found these super low profile tyres apart from costing shed loads of money give you the ride of a go kart ! with the current state of our roads and I use my Gal every day I need maximum comfort and for that more rubber in the wall please simples ;)
  16. After a quick trawl of the tinternet I found this component list for the VW Group AG4 Auto Box AG4 components Item 100 (seal) and 450 (Filter) might be useful to change these ?
  17. Yes Mick you should be ok with Dextron III is the box and torque converter empty ? as you will need around 6 litres. I would recommend dropping the sump and clean the filter and magnet
  18. As this is over a two week period I suspect the Alternator not charging properly if it was overnight then you have a short somewhere do you have access to a multimeter ? if you hold it on the terminals you should have 13 - 14Volts when the engine is running
  19. My rule of thumb Pete is when you first get the car if it don't have service records flush it, then if you use good quality oil and regular changes it is not needed
  20. with the greatest respect Mick, the 'recommended' oil is the Ford stuff I was fortunate to get 3 litres for
  21. I have a good feeling that is your problem mate, I had a Fiesta that gave simlilar symptoms when I back flushed the crap that came out from the heater !, ran sweet as a nut after that !!!!
  22. I appreciate you are going to sell the car, but for a small outlay ? New plugs, Oil change and new fuel filter might fix the problem ? and if you get the car running correctly you might get your asking price ;-) here is a shortcut to my fuel filter post (the car was running like yours !)
