With the bonnet open if you look to the left of the engine (This is the front of the engine), if you peer down into the engine bay you will see the accessory belt which drives the water pump, Alternator, Aircon and power steering. To get better access take off the offside headlight and you will see the belt, Also jack your car up, remove the under-tray and you will be able to access it. Here is a link to changing the water pump on a VW VR6 Powered Golf VR6 Water Pump Replacement pumps can be obtained at any motor factors DON't Go to the dealers !! excuse my ignorance but how did you come to the conclusion it was the water pump ? Regards

Wierd Thing On Coolant Front
Amarok replied to mjbkites's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Welcome to the Forum. Fingers crossed its the Thermostat sticking BUT the only thing that causes me concern is the line 'Oh to add on a long run the gauge does not move and car runs fine' I had exactly the same problem on a 2.8 Injection Capri and the previous scoundrel had REMOVED the thermostat as the car had a cracked head!! on the run she was sweet as a nut, loads of power the only fault was the temp gauge didn't get past the 1st blue section and as it was summer I didn't check if the heater was putting out hot air, ticking over in traffic was OK and gauge started to move to the middle, when you were back running gauge went back to cool. BUT if you were stuck in heavy traffic after about 10 minutes tick over up went the temp straight to the Red if I put Heater to full Hot that would just about keep the temp down but in a heavy jam or a really hot day she cooked! Swap 2.3 For A 2.8 Engin
Amarok replied to daveheggie's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I picked up a spare radiator from a 2.8 owner who was breaking his Galaxy, same as you the engine had gone big time  In his garage was a VR6 from a golf which was also for sale as it didn't fit the Galaxy so it sounds like you need a Galaxy or Sharan V6 I'm afraid -
I hear you friend,in the same boat !! as I said in my post the solenoid is the weak link mabey a light dusting of wd40 would help keep it ship shape. Kind Regards

My starter motor went the first week I had it on the road !, when the AA man took a look it was covered in dents where the previous owner had been hitting it with a hammer ! I personally think the starter was put in the wrong place it is at the front of the engine and the solenoid (the bit that energises the starter and is what is sticking) is open to the elements, so they don't last too long :( New starter from Ford, motor factors or eBay ?? New Starter - mine from Ford cost

Mk1 Air Con Compressor Failure
Amarok replied to tOOlfOOl's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
here is a drawing of the drive belt the air con compressor is middle right between the Alternator and the steering pump http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o192/Amarokuk/drivebelt.gif if you remove the Aircon compressor it should run straight from the Alternator to the Steering pump. This is how I did it on mine (petrol VR6) -

7K bloody hell - when we had a new autobox on our gal under warranty we were told it was 3.5k (2003) sorry I was taking the Mickey a bit  anything over £1000 surely has to be too much for a 10 year old car don't you think ?? Fixed under warranty well who care's your not paying for it ! Kind Regards -
Type Ag4 Auto Transmission On Mk2
Amarok replied to sip's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
During my transmission investigation the AG4 (4 Speed Auto) was only fitted to the MK1 when the MK2 came along Ford introduced 2 new transmissions a close-ratio six-speed manual box and a five-speed ‘Select-Shift’ automatic that also allows for ‘push up, push down’ sequential manual gear-changes. No quite sure what you mean with 'provide a likely price for one that was supplied by Ford dealer' If you are looking for brand new from Ford ? I would budget for around £7000+ Regards -

Paul, I had a frontera TD that did exactly the same same senario as you head gasket and water pump then later random overheat it was the Rad that was silted up i.e the muck at the bottom of the rad stays put 95% of the time then when you go over a bump it dislodges and blocks up a couple of cooler pipes this creates an air lock and BINGO overheat, New Rad never happened again :D , Also you can get the garage to do a test with the indicator flud which will indictate if the headgasket is 'weeping'

Probs With Auto Gearbox
Amarok replied to thepottages's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Welcome, I am going through the same heartache you are experiencing and my Galaxy is much older !. My problem was I have no 4th Gear and 3rd was 'Hard Shifting' I took it to the Garage and they changed the oil and filter and said OK its fixed :D when I collected it it was changing better but still no 4th gear so fuel consumption is through the roof as it revs the rocks off at 60MPH after 24 Hours it was back to hard shifting AGAIN and now with a leak from the autotrans sump !!!!!!! The car is going back to the Garage tomorrow to see if they can fix it, but after speaking to a Local Transmission Rebuilding company I don't hold out much hope as in his own words were The Autoboxes on the Galaxy are a 'NIGHTMARE' as they are all electronic and the slightest spots of dirt will screw it up. To reconditon and refit was in the region of £2,000 !, the recon box alone is £1,600, but because the dirty oil has moved through the entire system you need a torque converter as well :o After I picked myself up off the floor... Further searching on the net this is a MAJOR problem with these Autoboxes, as when the oil is contaminated Reading between the lines on your post This is going to cost you I'm afraid I would consider getting shot of the Auto Galaxy and get yourself a manual -
I had a number of different cars that did that, they were all like yours high mileage and would only do it mostly on full lock, the seals are worn and not holding maximum pressure, a new rack will sort it out, to be honest I just lived with it as long as the rack don't leak ?, you can get stuff to pop in the oil to swell the seals but I didn't bother OK ?

I would give your galaxy a good service, one thing you need to appreciate is she is a heavy bus, more akin to a van I have the original sales brocure for the Galaxy and the TD when brand new were reported as 57.6mpg at a constant 55mph and the 2.0 was 40 mpg for the same speed, the ONLY real test of correct mpg is to fill the tank to full drive your trip (in this case 290 miles)then fill the tank to full again note down how many litres you put back in then divide that by the 290 miles travelled this is 99% more accurate. Currently as prices go up daily at the moment so

Hi, welcome you are pressing the brake before you move from park ?? there is a small brass screw on the opposite side to the lamp in the black plastic housing, this adjusts the transmission lock switch (will ONLY allow start in N or P), first make sure you have it fully home if that is correct, try 1/4 turn in and you should get to the adjustment point, be gentle as it should only need a small adjustment to work too much and it will be constantly on. !
-
You need to be a bit more detailed in what was happening 1. did it work in reverse ? 2. did you try 1 or 2 or 3 or D? the gearbox on the 2.8 is ALL electronic with a number of sensors and a control box. reading between the lines this looks to be a recently purchased car are you in the AA or RAC the reason I ask is they have the computer that will talk to your vehicle electronics and should give you a idea what is wrong. With this autobox its a case of how long is a piece of string it was made far to complicated and as such will give you a heart attack with the cost of repair to the extent that I might give up the day job as a dentist and become a autobox repair man as the money looks to be far better :)

the connector is for the Ford towbar electrics if you contact the towbar manufacturer's witter etc, I am sure they will have a adapter to fit the socket then you have a nice neat connection

the brake light switch is a simple plunger switch, i.e. the further you press the pedal the further it comes out. you can adjust how close to the brake pedal the switch is in your case you need to adjust the switch a turn away from the pedal so it comes on earlier OK
