Daz, run it Without the stat, feel the pipes for flow and check the header tank for flow, on a diesel it shouldn't even start to register but if it starts to get hot 'Houston We Have a Problem!!'

thanks for the info, it was working fine then all ov a sudden it would take 5 mins to turn the engine then 10 mins 20 mins then it just did not turn the engine at all, Hi chrispb123456, is quite correct there is a starter inhibit switch on your auto transmission lever, it is adjustable via a small grub screw on the top (you need to remove the handle, plastic trim and you will see it it is in the top of the black plastic switch in my picture below.Be careful you only need to turn the screw in by small adjustments as its brass and is easyly damaged http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o192/Amarokuk/gearchange.jpg the other possibility is the starter is knacker ed  which would explain the progressively longer time to start as the starter is pulling too many amps !!

OK take the thermostat out put the housing back and refill with water to the mark and start the engine with the expansion cap off. you should see the water flowing instantly and if you feel the two pipes from the radiator you should feel the water flowing? (you did fit the belt the correct way around didn't you ??) No Flow ?? then its water pump out, check its turning and put a hosepipe in the pump hole in the engine and give it a good flush. From your description as you say you changed the pump, it sounds like the thermostat is stuck shut (Hence me asking to remove thermostat, bung it in boiling water and see if it opens ?) with water systems there are 5 main faults 1. system don't pressurize (needs to be pressurized as it raises the boiling point of water and the engines normal temperature is 10 15 degrees more than boiling water at sea level so no pressure it will boil!) 2. water not circulating (pump not pumping) 3. Blockage (thermostat or radiator) 4. Airlock (air trapped) 5. Leak (head gastket, split pipe etc) The oil warning I think is due to the overheat situation and needs to take second place at this moment in time as you need to get the overheat sorted or you will blow the head gasket...

2.3 Galaxy Stalls Sometimes
Amarok replied to baz1968's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Yes it will tick-over OK It's ONLY purpose is to control the tick-over and adjust it due to various factors i.e. temperature the problem is if the valve or throttle is gummed up with oil there is a delay while the valve tries to get to a STEADY idle and as you approach roundabouts or come off the throttle the valve is trying really hard to hold tick-over steady and on occasions this isn't happening fast enough and the car stalls. On a manual gearbox this can be corrected by dipping the clutch and blipping the throttle to stop the stall (I think we have all done this at on time or another) BUT on a auto box the valve needs to work perfectly with no hesitation as blipping the throttle will power you on !! As you can see it is quite a common fault especially on high mileage cars and I think it is a standard fix to clean the throttle and valve at garage service intervals. OK ? -
Galaxy 2.3 Mk 2 Losing Water
Amarok replied to smithersjones's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
the Fans are a whole new ball game :( they have a separate sensor and it could be faulty but hey its electrics so just about anything goes. your number 1 priority is to identify why it it overheating then we can tackle the fans and iffy dash OK ? I have a MK1 Galaxy and have not seen that with mine, the MK2 has more bells and whistles but I suspect there is a earth fault happening with the dash the fusebox would be my first port of call have a good look and check everything is connected -
Galaxy 2.3 Mk 2 Losing Water
Amarok replied to smithersjones's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Welcome to the Galaxy Forum. The water problem is a tricky one I'm afraid at best it is a stuck Thermostat, Leak or Air Lock at worst its a blown head gasket ! Most garages and the AA / RAC have a indicator system where they can sample the water and if the head gasket is gone the fluid turns from blue to yellow. As this is a new vehicle to you IMHO I would do this first as unscrupulous owners bung Radweld or Wonderweld or leave the thermostat out just so they can sell the car ! If it passes the test you can then start ticking off the following 1. Flush the system out, give it a good Flush till plenty of clear water flows. 2. Check the thermostat and replace if failed 3. refill and bleed the system The problem with Galaxy's is most of the old ones knocking around have been used for Taxi's or the previous owner got it cheap and didn't do any maintenance. The vehicle is 99% VW and should last but without regular maintenance even a Rolls Royce will break down. OK ? -
2.3 Galaxy Stalls Sometimes

Welcome to the Forum. OK the stalling problem I am pretty sure is the Idle control valve. eBay link for reference when the engine is cold it opens up extra fuel (Cold start valve) to get the car up to temperature (A bit like the old days with a choke) when its up to temperature the tick over is regulated by a electronic valve/servo called a Idle Control Valve. Its main purpose is to keep the tick over at around 750 RPM it does this by moving a valve backwards and forwards for extra air or less air. What happens over time is this gets gummed up and sticks, The standard fix is to remove it (two bolts) and clean out with Carburettor cleaner also clean up inside the throttle housing Throttle body Cleaning Never changed a power steering switch but the majority I have seen are just screw in with a O ring might just be a case of new O ring OK ? -
I had the same problems with mine. BUT in the cold light of day 95% of the problems were down to the dick head who used to own the beast, he run her into the ground!! :( ! everything needed doing as each day something else went wrong ! if you are in the AA they offer a parts and labour warranty (£80 a year for mine) this covers you for 5 visits to the garage up to £500 each visit ! all you pay is £35 excess so far I have had a starter motor (£250 and new HD battery £120 fixed on this scheme) worth a thought. I am sure once the old girl gets a good service you will start feeling better. This week I have done nearly 700 miles in my Galaxy and she is running ok

Yea prob 2 is prob right, but the sound seems to be coming from in the engine itself, i would say around where the EGR valve is but i dont know if that can make that kinda noise, it sounds like a clack, and only does it once when you put your foot down, also does it when say, your in first gear at lights and you lift off the clutch. I think he is on the money on both counts as seatkid said lots of reports of this its worth a check

If you have a laptop you can get the lead on eBay for around -
Please don't keep posting the same question if you would care to check I did reply to your original post inquiring how you came to the conclusion the water pump wasn't working ? As I was pretty sure it wasn't the water pump but something else. You chose not to reply or even acknowledge my reply and have just posted the same question again ! With the greatest respect mate, we are all volunteers here but we do have some knowledge how to fix Galaxy's and Fords in general. For us to help you properly you need to give us more info or at least reply the 'garage' will just go through their standard scheme 'we will keep replacing bits till we fix it' Regards

Jason, looking at the size of the key I wonder if it has a chip fitted at all ? On the chipped key's there is a plastic plug in the handle so you can fit the chip, looking at your key I don't think there is enough plastic to fit a chip ! options like remote locking, alarm , rear electric windows etc wasn't fitted to ALL the range and were optional extras. As you allready have a blank you might as well get it cut and give it a try ? I have just looked again and I am pretty sure it don't have a chip

Good show, please keep us updated Kind regards -
My first purchase when I got my Galaxy is VAG-COM ! If you have a laptop , you can download the diagnostic's software [VCDS],and on eBay you can get the connecting lead and you can then plug into your cars 'BRAIN' and it will tell you what is wrong ;) the only cost is the price of the cable and after you have posted the faults here I am pretty sure we can fix it for you just like Jim :) Link to VCDS software eBay Link to cable

Welcome, there are lots of scrap Galaxy, Sharan and Alhambra's so you should get a replacement fuse box but I would check it for loose connections (I don't know why the garage didn't as it sounds a poor service when they tell you this !) On a slightly different track, the revving problem could be down to a blocked fuel filter (Under the floor drivers side and easy to change) I would suggest a service, i.e. Engine Oil & Filter, Fuel filter and Air filter. If your money could stretch some new plugs. I have just done this on my V6 Galaxy and she now purrs like a pussy cat and growls like a lion :)

A small step back please. Can we confirm Is the engine overheating and loosing water?? The leak could be at the inlet manifold ?
