  1. I had a problem like that which first started when I tried to show a boy racer that my LPG VW could beat him off the lights, I thought I had missed the shift to 2nd, but just found a box of neutrals. Coasted to a halt, left it a couple of minutes then drove off. The problem got worse, but if you let the box take it's time shifting to 2nd, there was no problem, it was only when you tried going a bit too quick, then you had no gears for a couple of minutes. The gear cable outers, I presume the fraud box is similar, sit in locator slots on a bracket on top of the box, the inners go to the selector ball joints. The bracket, or the cable outer (50k miles) had worn, when a shift was rushed, the outer popped out of the bracket. Leave it a few mins and it would fall back into place. Finding myself stranded at my brothers', 60 miles away, I was forced into a quick solution - a cable tie looped under the bracket, between the fins on the gearbox casing, around the cable, crossing the bracket at an angle and pulled tight. If the cable REALLY wanted to pop out, it would break the cable tie, but I haven't missed a shift since. The cuts on my arms, along with the kids trauma of listening to Dad & Uncle swearing for 40 minutes, have all cleared up
  2. I've just got ElsaWin, but can't get it installed. The program installs ok, but when you go to install the data disks, it tells me "Not Supported Version". The data is on the disks, I can access each file, but can't get it to install to the hard drive. There is a certain eBay seller getting a snotmail very soon. Anyone got any ideas ?
  3. Two rules in life, pay your doctor and your taxman. I Used to work for a shipping agent, C & E are the law, if they say jump, every other agency, including Police ask how high. It's not worth the risk
  4. I rarely have all the seats in, but lest test I noticed that the printed check sheets the new system spits out shows the location of all the seats to be checked. Not a problem unless you're tested by a jobsworth
  5. Can't make it then, or any other weekend in July  1st weekend, youngest sprogs birthday (and SWMBO's) 2nd weekend, official invite from organisers of a kite festival 3rd weekend, help organising a kite festival 4th weekend, official invite from organisers of a kite festival, payment in single malt :D

  8. The steak was very nice - I'm sure she bought it just to get my hopes up
  9. Whe I had mine done, they were playing Goodbye To Love in the theatre  I asked them to stop the pain but keep the swelling
  10. I agree that most forums moderate themselves, but there is always some sort of damage when things like this happen, and having helpful people leave just messes it up for all of us. I personally have a little list in my head of people whose posts I never even look at, life's too short to waste hoping that they might just come up with an interesting snippet every few years. That's why you will never see a high number of posts from me, I sometimes start to write something and stop when I realise that what I've got to say really doesn't matter. I've got no problem with the "me too" brigade, I just can't be bothered. BUT... In this case, Del has done this before, causing someone to leave(?), I think it should be stopped. All the above does not apply to this forum alone (apart from the last bit), Bassworld, QueenOnline, UKCampsite all have there listed users, Queenzone just doesn't even get looked at any more. Rant over Paul
  11. Thanks Dave Re-read the fault code this morning...... and it doesn't appear on the list!! 00537 - Lambda (Oxygen Sensor) Regulation 19 - 10 - Lower Limit - Intermittent Not too worried about it, especially as it's an intermittent fault and the LPG closed loop system is doing a good job at the moment, but I do wonder if it was the cause of my fuelling problems a while back, combined with the old ignition system. Probably a dodgy connector on the Lambda probe Paul
  12. Here we go again  Could the moderators please sort this out? Zero tolerance on abuse is the only way.
  13. Got my VagCom lead today (thanks Chas) had a good play on the drive, does everything I want it to, even found a fault code pointing in the same direction as I thought it would. But.... Is there a list of fault codes or explanations anywhere? My fault code concerning the Lambda sensor looks like it would explain the problems I've been having, but I can't remember what it was because the laptop battery died before I could save it  I'll go for a drive with it logging tomorrow, feels like I'm back in my racing days with data logging
  14. I guess you've made your mind up already, but one thing I can assure you, it wasn't the driving that caused the problems. I drive a variety of vehicles for my job, working for a certain main dealer, in 20 years of driving, I've never had a problem of that sort, the other driver of this particular is even faster than me  While I agree that pootling around town could cause problems in an older car, with closed loop lambda systems, the mixture will be right whatever the driving conditions. The suspension mounting that needed welding was a bit of a problem too. Do something right and 2 people will be told, do something wrong and 10 people will be told.
  15. I've used Pugs for work since the 205, the 405 was good, 306 & 309 were excellent, then came the 307 - oh dear! My brother bought a new 307 petrol after writing off his previous car, sold it in under a year, it was totally gutless, dangerously slow on acceleration. The 307SW we use at work is a god motorway car, quick enough to get into and out of trouble, did a very fast run down to Exeter in it last week, very impressive. But, in 90k, it seems to have done more miles vertically on the ramps than on the road. Lack of power, finally traced to a blocked exhaust. Clutch. Clutch release bearing is still rumbling. Rear wash/wipe switch
  16. I'll have it, how do I pay you? Paul
  17. So do I get a USB or Serial lead? My laptop has both, the serial on the docking station, but I prefer using USB. But other sites say there have been problems with USB. So what type do you have?
  18. GSF were showing rear calipers a couple of weeks ago for
  19. Would any of you know if Vagcom will display the mixture readings from the lambda sensor? I need to set up my lpg mixtures and a vagcom lead is cheaper than a gas analyzer. OR... Does anyone know the ins & outs of the Lektron CO.RE.GAS lambda control system? Like, which light means rich & which light means lean
  20. Do any of you fine people posess an exhaust gas analyzer in the Glos/Worcs area? Had a problem with the lpg system, richen the mixture up to prove it was an inlet proble, but I'm going to need to lean it off when I fix the fault.
  21. How about using the mirror pads as a temporary measure until you're sure you've got the right location for the sensors.
  22. I put my sensors on the bumper with a couple of mirror pads and found that they picked up ever stone while reversing down my sloping drive. So I then fitted them, using the pads again, as low as possible on the tailgate. The rear bumper masks any stones. The wires are taped in place around the lower lip of the tailgate and the visible led unit is mirror padded to the top of the tailgate window, where high level brake lights go. The only wire routing needed was the 2 sensor wires around the glass and a power leead through the hinge rubber
  23. I've always been happy with my LPG conversion, the money I've saved on fuel has just paid for today's brake caliper :) Get the installation inspected/serviced by a good lpg installer (have a look here: http://www.my90.zenwebhosting.com/cgi-bin/....cgi?pg=topics). Make sure the ignition system is up to spec, good plugs & leads are essential. Consider replacing them if you're not sure. You will probably lose up to 10% power, mostly at the bottom end of the rev range, but if I can cope (and get an SP30) with my 2 litre Audi engine, you'll be fine with a V6. Except on VERY cold days, I start on petrol, put my seatbelt on and then blip the throttle to change over to gas. If it's below freezing, I probably do a mile on petrol first. go for it, you won't regret it. Plus it doesn't smell or smoke like some other fuels
  24. Or fit a remote central locking unit like the Cobra 1046 and not worry about using keys to open up. then all you'll need is a spare ignition key
  25. Guilty as charged M'lud
