Still waiting on an answer. This only blew up on Tuesday night when the windscreen repairer told me they had problems getting the money. By the time I had found out that NU didn't have me covered, my priority was to get some cover sorted out. That was Thursday. Snot letter giving them a deadline, CC'd to Trading Standards went this morning. This isn't the first time I've had problems with them. Last September, they took the whole year payment by DD rather than one month. They refunded the year, less the first month, plus my bank charges. That is when I reckon they had the problem, refunded a full year's policy, so didn't renew it. They also took a long time to come up with proof of no claims when I had to change underwriters because of the LPG. When they phoned me on the morning of buying the car to say they couldn't cover LPG, I said "never mind, I'll find some somewhere" then put the phone down. they called back within 10 minutes having 'found' a insurer that would cover LPG!! Problem was, I was 20 minutes away from collecting the car, so didn't have time to look around, had to accept the deal. I didn't even approach them as a broker in the first place, just got my cover transferred to them when I moved up from Brizzle.

That's part of my argument. The financial ombudsman and trading standards are also involved. Norwich Union are investigating how a broker can issue a certificate without telling them.

I fitted the Cobra 1046 system myself, with a bit of email help from Alarmman. -

Then go to your local Machine Mart and buy a removing tool - -
It's already started round here. The ones with the flags are the same ones who moan about fuel going up 1p a litre, then they waste fuel with these drag inducers. An obstruction to a smooth airflow will create drag covering a distance of at least seven times the height of the obstruction, more when the obstruction is moving. Years of experience taping up bodywork on racing cars and designing kites ;)

Diesel Fuel Injectors
morticiaskeeper replied to howardjprice's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Mercedes injectors are service exchange, so someone must be reconditioning them. I would be surprised if VAG weren't doing the same, but finding a company to do it in small quantities just for you may be difficult. The new Merc engines will have solid state piezo injectors, very technical and VERY pricey ;) -
I warned my neighbour that I could use his network, but he's never secured it, very useful when my connection went down  My network appears to be unsecured, until you try to login. Only a select list of MAC addresses are allowed in.

I'm with freedom2surf. 2Mb speed, unlimited, no shaping or port blocking and a VOIP account billed to the same account.

Rear Door Electrics
morticiaskeeper replied to imposter's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
How about removing that bit of the loom from the pillar and tailgate, then doing a proper repair before putting it back in? Mind you, still haven't got round to it after 2 years :( but I will do it sometime, promise -
Has anyone had any success stripping the door lock central locking mechanism? This particular door has a mind of it's own, sometimes it locks, sometimes it doesn't. Stripped the door down tonight and held the lock in my hand while watching the mechanism, it seemd as if the central locking actuator wouldn't quite push far enough. Because it couldn't sense that it was locked, it has another go, after a couple of attempts, it normally locks, but then won't unlock. Looking inside the mechanism, the sensor switches aren't reached, but is this because the lock won't let it, or because the motor mechanism is U/S? Putting it back together for use unplugged, we found that it took a good tug of the interior handle to make it resond to even the exterior handle, so is it a bowden cable problem? Much cheaper if it is. Anybody been through the same as me? let me learn from your mistakes :D As a matter of interest, when it did it's usual engine dying in the wet on right hand corners, the AA man fired it up and told me that I had NGK plugs, just by listening. If you have NGK, tighten them down, the copper washer squashes down too much and the plug comes loose. This has been a public service announcement. :D

Identifying/getting Running My Lpg
morticiaskeeper replied to Sharanfx's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Wouldn't pay more than 41p/litre. But glad you got it sorted. Just finding out about my system is taking a long time. -
Sorry, the C word is banned within a 50 mile radius of me, you come inside that line, please STEP AWAY FROM THE CHOCOLATE :D That is probably the thing I miss most, other than real sugar.

As a poor Ford owner, if you need a VW Vin, pm me for a very early (1995)Sharan number :P It should cover most things other than the engine & box

That's what I thought. found the fault code diagnosis, listed my code, checked where it said, nothing wrong. Probably the ECU getting confused when I switch fuels. now if only I could find what dies when I go through floods ;)

I use AVG for anti virus, XP SP2 firewall and my Netgear hardware firewall. I was using Microsnot Defender for spyware, but got pi$$ed off with it reminding me I hadn't scanned for 4 days, then giving me an error when I told it to scan. Just deleted defender and I can feel the speed increase already. another bit of MS bloatware. If only I could convince SWMBO to use Linux - and still use VagCom, Elsawin, Autocad and my Freestyle monitor

It works!!! Now I've got to learn how to use it. It seems to need some numbers that I don't know, like the PR number. I'm also looking for a basic fault diagnosis using the fault codes section, but can't find it yet. Spend all day on the Mercedes system, too old to learn another

Camping In The Galaxy
morticiaskeeper replied to Steve S.'s topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
I keep a Carnopy in the Sharan for kite festivals & picnics with the kids. I don't think most campsites would allow you to sleep in an unconverted car. I use a Quechua 2 second tent with the door opening out into the carnopy. -
Still can't get mine to install

Places To Put Stuff..
morticiaskeeper replied to PopDorset's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Just been out to look, and found more stuff  Apart from a few grands worth of soaking wet kites from yesterday, there is a map behind the driver's seat, a Quechua 2 second tent, a rubber mallet and a box containing: Camping stove, spare gas bottle, teabags, coffee, milk powder, 2 x mess tins, sweeteners, 2 boxes of tomato cup-a-soup, a water bottle, kettle, packet of plastic forks (but no spoons!) There may be more to follow -

The spare wheel is netted down at the back, with basic tools, reflective vest, waterproofs, walking boots and sledgehammer inside. Between the wheel and the seat in front is a folding chair, Carnopy (look it up), basha, 12v wheel wrench, 2ft ground anchor with straps & carabiners & 100ft of 1000Kg line. The r/h wheel arch houses: Mains invertor, flourescent inspection lamp, fuses & bulbs, cyalume sticks (ideal for emergency road markings), emergency triangle. R/H rear cubby hole houses digital multimeter, polishing cloth, roll of insulation tape, utility knife. Upper glovebox has cd's (all copies, originals at home), lpg filling station map,. Lower glovebox: Fire extinguisher, Cebe mountain dark shades (not for road use), binoculars. Drivers' door pocket: 2 lpg filler adaptors, pair of gloves, bottle of Lucozade & sachet of Metrix (I'm diabetic). Under drivers' seat: laptop. Will probably remember more later  -
Had a puncture on Tuesday, 2nd in 3 weeks. Couldn't wait for eTyres to come out, so took it to my local Pug express fit place. Told him that if he needed to replace, it would have to be a cheapy, but reinforced. Turned out he had a couple of cheapies in stock ordered for someone who didn't come back.
