  1. I've got the aerial built in to the rear glass, and have just fitted a DAB radio which needs a special aerial for the DAB reception So, can I use the existing aerial if I connect it with a proper adapter/splitter? Edit: it's a Mk1 ... the details used to be in the column on the left!
  2. I don't have climate control!
  3. I am getting a clicking/buzzing sound from near the glove box when the air con is on. It sounds like a relay or switch 'hunting'. Does anyone know what this is and what I should be checking - would it be fixable or is a new part required before I start to do any dismantling Thanks Edit: don't know where the vehicle info has gone from the left, but its a 2.3 zetec, 2000 old shape model
  4. Thanks. The problem is that I can see the drip off some sound proof material behind the fuses, but can't see where is is entering further up as it is all obscurred. I thought the place indicated by teresag was it, as when I sprayed in the hole it came out inside, but it may well have been the run off getting in further down in the engine bay, as when I sprayed lower down it still came in. The water seems to run in several directions from a single location, so its difficult to track it My one consolation, is that it does not smell in the car .... yet.
  5. Spent a whole day investigating this and looked at every conceivable hole in the vacinity, but no good. It seems my only option now is to remove the dashboard to see where this bloody leak is coming in
  6. What are the most likely suspects, after the scuttle drains? The leak is after rain and it can be seen dripping off a peice of foam and loom behind the fuse board. I can't seem to be able to see any higher up on the inside, but from under the bonnet I can't see any obvious places for water to get in. It seems the two most likely places are the [foam/plastic?] pad in the bulkhead right behind the instrument panel, or the bottom of the screen behind the plastic wiper cover. Incidently, I found two round rubber pyramid shaped grommets in the scuttle drain outlet in the wheelarch, and the only two holes without a gromet are either side of the pad in the bulkhead behind the instrument panel. Does anyone know if these should have a gromet in them? I don't think this can be a source of water ingress as they are a bit high up, and I can't see how they would fall out.
  7. I went around several shops to get a price and not one of them mentioned anything about the need for calcium or just lead batteries on the different models, and their reference charts only listed one type of battery for petrol, diesel and V6. They all said that calcium was just better, more heavy duty low maintenance and lasted longer, and that there would be no problems with charging etc. The one I finally got (cheapo lead) has a curious clear plastic tube which is connected near the +'ve anode and looks like some kind of filling tube to the cells. What do I do with this?? I've never had one of these before :angry2:
  8. The car would not start recently due to a flat battery - it had not been used for a few days and I assumed the last 10 minute run with heater/demisters/air-con and lights on had caused this. It was totally flat So I jumped it and all was well and even after the journey, it was sufficiently re-charged for me to start it again to get home. I put it on charge and the charger indicated that it was taking charge and gradually recharging - all the cells were bubbling. I left it on charge for two days, then switched it off. Out of interest I checked it with a volt meter, and it read 11.6 volts and falling. It fell down to 10.6 volts, so I assume a cell has gone. I put it back on charge and noticed that one of the cells was no longer bubbling. So, how can a cell go "just like that"? Is there anything to be done to revive it? And is it worth putting it back in the car, or should I just bin it? It just says Pb on it, no mention of calcium, so I assume I can just replace with lead
  9. The picaso is after the smaller mpv market is't it? There is less internal space
  10. Here's mine. Parking is a doddle http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/5655/galaxy2sb.jpg
  11. Bristol Street - 0121 666 6000. The car has to be over 3 years old to qualify. I'll try and give them a ring too
  12. No, just mentions 27 points
  13. I have a flyer from a Birmingham Ford dealer, offering a Ford 'Value Service' for
  14. Yes, W was the change over year. When I bought my galaxy, I tried a number of different models at a Ford Main dealer, and none of the of Mk1 Tdi's had a remote key - just original keys with the light. My galaxy did not have remote locking either Edit. Hey, wheres my car model info gone from the left column? Anyway its a petrol 2.3 Zetec
  15. I've been using veg oil mixed with diesel 50/50 since late last summer, not in the galaxy, but my other car. I stopped over the winter as it was difficult to start, but I have started again now and will go up to 70/30 if alls well. For piece of mind, I am applying to HMC&E to become a user of alternative fuel. This will mean declaring useage and paying the duty at the end of every month. But this relies on the user accurately declaring how much veg oil has been used. :D . But it covers you if you get stopped for having the chip shop aroma. As useage of veg oil becomes more widespread, the Police and C&E may become more interested in roadside checks That site listing bio-fuel filling stations is out of date. I travelled 10 mile to my nearest one and they said they stoped selling it a couple of years ago due to no demand. If you want to use proper bio-diesel then you just fill up as normal at the pump, no mixing with normal diesel required as its already done. For newer cars, check with the warranty as bio-diesal or veg oil use may void any warranty.
  16. Thanks. Yes it will be definately underfloor. As part of the extension I'm having an all glass conservatory - and I mean all glass, no frame. It will be minimalist - and that includes minimal entry for kids. lol. Just me and tranquility, and hopefully warm feet in winter.
  17. I was going to use an underfloor wet system in my extension later this year. I'll have to do a bit more research, but may well look you up a bit nearer the time. I'm still sceptical though  PS: What discount do we get? lol
  18. But surely costs are all down to KW/h and how much it costs to convert the power to heat? What is the power output of this system in watts or kW? 90p a day seems rather cheap for an electrical system. It reminds me of those "1p and hour" radiators advertised in the press. Sure they cost 1p to run, but the heat output was that of a 60w light bulb As a basic minimum and heating system should be capable of maintaining the temperature in the main living room at 18oC when the outside temperature is
  19. If the site is to be moderated, then we will also need a clear set of guidelines (a sticky) to state exactly what is and is not acceptable in the various sub-forums. This will be useful for members and mods to refer to
  20. I have an ID card that is accepted at more places that American Express  . I would not use the galaxy though - even crisp crumbs are not allowed in it With regards to the barrier height, there should be access via another entrance - after all how to the wagons get in? Or just stop at the entrenace and hold up the queue behind untill they let you in
  21. I was reading an IT article today, and the author believes that there will be a big boon in VoIP use as more small and larger busineses install systems to use broadband instead of the traditional phone lines. There are implications for security and correct implementation of this new technology. The author suggested that there is big money to be earned if you get trained up in VoIP networking.
  22. Another vote for delboy.
  23. It really all depends on what career you want. If uni is more or less essential for you to 'get on' in your chosen career, then you should do it. If you can get a job, and work yourself up, then that may be better - you can always do some uni or other courses while you are in the job. I did an apprenticeship, then moved up and was earning good money quite soon. I then went to uni as a mature student. This is the best of both worlds, and I still have a trade to fall back on (or for weekend foreigners) ;-) From what I have seen from students straight from school, they need to be in a damn good job after five years, or they will be financially challenged for the next ten.
  24. Let me be the first to ask if Vag-Com will work with it, what is causing the damp carpet in the passenger footwell, and if there may be a problem with the MAF sensor. lol The microsite is crap, polished but crap. I like the interior views -futuristic except for the 1950's speedo and clocks etc :( But the external is bland and just like most other MPVs today. They could have done more with the styling considering that this design will have to be around for a few years. It looks just like a bigger Zafira Spot the difference Zafira http://www.carnorama.com/graphics/ford/FordNewGalaxySFB.jpg New Galaxy http://web.opel.cz/tz/new-zafira.jpg
  25. I have got this one from this guy. I have not fitted it yet
