So we finally got around to actually putting the house up for sale with a thieving set of idle bar stewards an estate agent on Wednesday. There are plenty MK1 galaxy's lying about with broken autoboxes. have you looked at the ones breaking on ebay ?

Sounds like it might be a kick-down problem.

I think the reversing light problem and tailgate may be related to the broken wiring as it enters the tailgate !.....maybe. The rocker cover gasket should be an easy enough job if this is the problem. Wing mirrors are easy enough to do...its just getting one at a reasonable price ! I am sure you have had a door card of before so you should manage this ok. There you go easy peasy...you could do all this lot on a Sunday morning... :)

still sounds like a flat battery to me ....do your jump leads get hot ? Could be faulty ignition relay / starter relay or jammed starter motor. Doubt that its electronic...see if you can put a feed direct to starter relay....if you can get at it !

See if you can put your car into remote programming mode...check the faq. You can do this with any of your keys it doesn't have to be a remote one. If the led flashes then it should accept a remote key.

See if you can borrow a remote from someone a gal and try to program your car to the key. It will not do their key any harm at all and will still work in their vehicle afterwards.

It the hot/cold flap....and it's the awkward one to get to ! There was a previous post somewhere with a drawing of the flaps and their locations.....i am sure the hot/cold flap was at the top of the unit difficult to get to.
