  1. You need to get a new chip ( not a new key ) which you can then fit into your existing key. You can get a chip from an old Galaxy key ( doesnt need to be a remote one ). see link below http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=19743 This chip will need to be reprogrammed to the car.......dealer or very good auto electrician/locksmith. Remember to glue the chip into your key to avoid it falling out again. p.s. It will have almost certainly fallen out when the key initially split in two.
  2. The lead is exactly the same for the Mk1 & Mk2 galaxys. The problem you are having seems to be windows related rather than vagcom. You need to make sure that you are using the correct software/drivers for the lead. Most of the cheapo usb/serial leads use the ftdi chipset....see link below for generic drivers http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
  3. Do we start calling him "mondeo man" again ?
  4. Nice write up........looks like a job well done..... :D
  5. This would have been for all "Petrol" Gals. All you need for the Tdi's is the switch and the cable.
  6. I just worry when I see the typical mechanics quote ( which is getting near to the value for a reconditioned unit ) and he says that his work might not be necessary anyway.......or he said it may not cure the fault....which is the same thing in my book. Had this recently from a typical Ford Dealer who quoted me ( an arm and a couple of legs) for changing a "faulty" aircon compressor to cure a horrible squealing sound from my drivebelt.......told him to stick it where the sun don't shine. Went to a smaller independant garage who showed me what the problem was ( faulty tensioner pulley ).....clearly visible even to my untrained eye when shown where to look. This only cost a few fingers (and half an arm) and cured the problem completely.
  7. Does he ( the mechanic) know what the word diagnosed means........I doubt it. You may as well give me
  8. Very, very nice motor......wish I had the money to afford it.... <_< He'll be back......again !
  9. Is it actually a plain grey wire or is it grey/red grey/green or whatever. Is there a rear window isolation switch in the console ?
  10. Any chance of some pictures showing this ?
  11. The cable from the blower motor is plugged into it.......remove the glovebox and recheck. It will be on the lower right against the heater unit.
  12. Seen this little advert on ebay....below http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=220545360646 Particularly like the sellers answer to questions technique..... ;)
  13. Ok start with the basics first. vista can be a bit twitchy with usb to serial adapters ( which is what your vagcom lead is....it is actually 2 devices a usb to serial adapter and a serial OBDII device......both contained in the one big bit at the end ). If you have access to the xp machine try using it first. Make sure that windows recognises the lead as a usb/serial adapter ( or similar ) and assigns a port that is not already in use ( com3 is usually ok....but not always ). Connect to vehicle ( ignition on....as this is what powers the OBDII device ). Make sure vagcom tests ok with port 3.....also check that it fails if you unplug it from the car. Do your first test on Module 01 as it will definitely recognise this if working correctly....some other modules may not be available or functioning correcty. If this still fails then either your lead is faulty or it is using the incorrect software drivers. As a footnote please be aware that Vista & Windows 7 will turn off USB devices by default to save power.....which obviously will stop your lead working.......this can be changed in device manager.
  14. Hi Babe... ;) Got a download for a MK2 Alhambra available below http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=19741 99% of the controls are the same ( just might be the other way around ). Still trying to get a copy of the Mk2 Galaxy.
  15. They fit exactly the same as the middle ones.......practice your technique on them.. ;) Also if you have shoved the middle seats fully back you may have difficulty fitting the rear seats unless you slide them forward a bit. You may need to "slam " the back of the seat down for it to engage in the locking catches.......or is that just in older ones like mine . ;) .....but make sure the front catches have engaged properly first.
  16. Throw Maz underneath it with a spanner.... Obviously you may have to jack the car up a bit ;)
  17. The problem is most likely the guy who set the code up for you ! Why did he not check the operation of the cruise control using vagcom ? This would have told him what the problem was. I would suggest getting vagcom yourself as it is very cheap and solves a lot of problems.
  18. Are you sure its the fan and not the resistor pack or control unit (hedgehog) as these usually burn out first.
  19. This is signalling low water level in the expansion tank......or a faulty connection to the sensor in the tank.....make sure its plugged in properly.
  20. Its hiding at the back of the engine bay .....and I mean at the back !........on the drivers side. Conveniently located.
  21. If you're lucky the gearbox is low on oil. I think I seen your car the other day.......pic below
  22. I thought the FUNK switch fitted in that position ?
