Keep the Granada.............sell the kids

Just over 30MPG I get more out of my Gal In fact If I towed yours as well I would still get more. You have a serious problem if this mpg is correct.
-
Well we were ahead and then they had a player sent off That would be enough for most teams Only the Toon have the knack of snatching a draw from the jaws of victory... Never mind at least Dyer's back to half fitness...soon be mostly fit. If we can get some of the other eleven first team players back from injury it should help.

big_kev's Guide to Tyres...... Front ones.....correct size and type with plenty of tread, must be same make and model....undamaged. Back ones ...black...similar....undamaged. This is sufficient for nearly all situations. Big_kev's guide to Aquaplaning..... Drive too fast in the wet...even easier if you find a bend...braking through puddle guarentees satisfaction. Works all the time....tyre tread contributes a little to this.....easily counteracted by a little bit more speed...

Well the Toon managed to get a draw against 10 men. Hopefully if we can get them down to 9 in the reply we might win. Not impressed with their performance on Saturday.

Personnally I would have prosecuted the passengers for not wearing their seat belts as required to do so by law. I am serious on this before some one thinks its a joke, it not fun being a good boy and wearing your seat belt only to be headbutted at 60mph by the guy behind who wasn't. Obviously I would crucify the driver as well for driving far too fast. p.s. the driver was doing approx. 62mph according to the police well within the speed limit of 70mph..........the new Euro limit in km per hr equates to 62mph and therefore the driver would still have been within the speed limit even if Coaches were reduced to wagon speeds. p.p.s. As I have said before do not confuse driving to fast with speeding.....it is not the same thing. Try entering you driveway at 25mph well below the speed limit ( in most places 30mph...I know some are less ) and you will see the difference between driving to fast and speeding.

OK I have re-read the thread again. Battery dropping 0.2v overnight, perfectly normal don't worry about it. Battery drawing 200mA...probably about right..clock..alarm system etc. Only issue seems to be battery going flat after a few days. Only 3 possible causes. 1: Faulty battery....you changed battery so that is unlikely. 2: Drain on battery...only showing 200mA so that is unlikley. 3:Battery not being charged sufficiently.... faulty Alternator...seems most likely ? Voltage reading is a guide but "a guide only" ie if alternator is not putting out 14+ volts it is definitly faulty. If it is putting out 14.4 volts it may still be faulty, diodes gone high resistance or similar. You will still get the voltage but no current to charge battery ( remember it is the current that charges the battery not the voltage ). eg you get several thousand volts out of your spark plugs and only a couple of hundred out you mains electrics which one will send the most electrons through your body ! ( please feel free to try this if you still disbelieve ) obviously the coil is very high resistance and can only deliver milliamps as opposed to the mains which can deliver a lot of amps . Only way to be sure is to use a known good battery and see if this still goes flat. Will be honest and say I am not 100% sure on the various battery types CA etc. Would advise to stick with original as the charging circuits may treat them differently...doubt it though.

And who said Galaxy owners were always concerned with Diesel Fuel Economy versus Petrol Perfomance !
-
OOPs ! Almost forgot to mention ............have you checked the obvious....swap youre battery with a mate's KNOWN GOOD ONE and see who ends up with the flat battery after a few days....only way to be sure ! I think you have a charging problem....let me know if I am wrong

Ok guys a bit basic eletrical knowledge to clear the confusion. A standard cheapo multimeter can only actually measure a dc voltage. It manages to read an AC voltage by rectifying it using a bridge diode ( or similar ) which then feeds the resultant DC voltage to the meter....this will appear as a DC voltage of around half the AC voltage..a little bit of simple computation in the meter ( it knows to do this because it is switched on to its AC range ) then shows the calculated AC result. Therefore if you put 13.8vDC into the meter whilst it is on AC this goes straight through the bridge rectifier and the meter sees the DC votage does its simple computation and returns an AC voltage of 27vAC...which is approximately double the DC voltage....( should actually be well more than double but there will be some loss through the bridge rectifiers and other AC circuitry ). Two options..either use a better meter...or..... Dont use AC when measuring an obvious DC device. Hope this helps

Nah...still doesn't compare with not looking in direction vehicle was moving....75% cause of accidents.....and tailgating....9% of accidents.....closely pipped by driving too fast ( do not cofuse this with speeding ! )...11%...and the good old utter stupidity 4%...the last 1% is usually classed as unlucky or mechanical failure etc.
-
Never heard of this...usual DOT excellent publicising I assume. Any idea where I can get a copy of the current speed limits ?
-
WOW! I just measured 13.8Volts DC at tickover, and when I set the meter to AC, it came up with a massive 28.5Volts. With the engine off, I still get a reading of 27Volts AC. What on earth does that mean? The DC voltage looks about right for tickover.......ignore the AC voltage...it doesn't mean anything other than your rectification circuit is not perfect ( which is normal for a vehicle alternator ). If you have any non-original equipment in your car thsi is the most likely source of the battery drain. ie do you have any sta-nav..mobile phone..non-original lights or anything else on the car that it didn't have when it came out of the factory ?

I agree with the saying that it is not the dog but the owner...to a certain extent. You still have to look at the breed of dog involved. All dogs have had years of selective breeding to bring out various characteristics. Retriever type dogs, spaniels labradors etc tend to be of a more placid nature ( yes there are exceptions ) as this has been bred into them....usually warn you first...rarely bite and very rarely continue Guard dog types...Alsations...Rottweilers..Dobermans etc have been selectively bred to be protective and as such by their nature are aggressive especially to people. ( a good owner can partially remove this nature....but it is still there in the majority of cases. )...tend to bite to make their point dont usually continue after initial subtle warning. Terrier type dogs...have been selectively bred to be agressive and stubborn...the worst possible traits to have in a pet. Luckily most terriers are small...Jack Russels and as such...even though they have the worst reputation for biting people inflict little damage....a Jack Russel is about a thousand times more likely to bite you than a Lab...but if the Lab did bit someone it is large enough to do serious damage especially to a child....tend to be bad tempered little b*ggers and will bite without warning first. The larger Terrier types..Pit Bulls..Staffs etc ( apart from being owned mainly by F*ckwits who want a " hard dog" ) have both the agression and tenacity of the smaller terriers combined with the power of a larger dog and as such are dangerous....tend to bite and continue...until either themselves or the bitten thing die. However it still comes down to the owner in all fairness....they bought that particular type of dog.

I thought a Lead Acid battery would be at 14.4 volts when fully charged..dropping very quickly to 13.2V. It would remain at this if no load were applied. 12.6V would indicate either a load on the battery, a partially disharged battery. Or a faulty alternator ie battery not being fully charged.
-
Nope not really........... Diesel will get over 40 mile per gallon...you wont get 20 to the gallon on a V6 LPG....in fact this may be nearer 15 mpg.
-
The owner of the dog should be held respnsible for its actions. ie if the owner should have been charged with manslaughter in this case.

I am going to upgrade to a MK2 Galaxy p.s. The error returned was: Flood control is enabled on this board, please wait 30 seconds before replying or posting a new topic Obviously admin has a very slow watch as this was well over a minute

Doesn't really compare as you would have made similar savings if you had just bought a diesel in the first place. I think that you are right however, in part, as the savings to be made from converting an existing big petrol engine to LPG are well justified ( apart from the time bomb in the boot ). Like the idea of the tanks in the back though for the galaxy...surely they would be less likely to be damaged inside the car than underneath..........anyone got mods for fitting tanks underneath the rear two seats ?

It is a VW system. Some parts of the car are Ford ( eg the engine ) but most of the car isnt and should be readable via VagCom. Most likely that the lead you have is incorrect or your settings on the software are wrong.
