  1. Hello, If you are experiencing power loss you've come to the right place. There a numerous threads on 'power loss' problems, do a search on 'power loss' or similar. It is very common for the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor to fail (this happened on mine, it would lose power as you were driving but was restored when the engine was stopped and restarted) but is not always the case (in fact mine ended up with the turbo being changed but that is less likely) :( ). Good searching... :) Gordon
  2. I DIY'd my Audi 80; the job looks the same for the Sharan / Galaxy. Front wheels off, undo the 2 bolts (you need to use an open ended spanner on the ball joint part of the link to stop it rotating whilst undoing the nuts). It is wise to replace the self locking nuts (new oners were not supplied with the new links, but that was GSF a dealer might.. B) ) Hope that helps... its certainly a lot easier than changing strut top mounts, but that's a different story... Gordon.
  3. In my expierience of worn drop links, consisting of an Audi 80 (2 sets) and the Sharan (2 sets) they clank / knock, and unlike other noises you get in the cars it does sound like its coming from the front suspension. Uneven / pot holy roads really makes the noise apparent. To test them raise the front wheels off the road and push and pull the drop link, if it clicks and you feel it move slightly they are worn. Gordon.
  4. At the weekend when my wife is not child minding I normally fold the rear 2 seats forward to fit the taneou cover. (Makes it easier to leave things in it when shopping etc.) But I do have to remove the headrests from the rear seats and make sure the middle row seats are fully forward on their runners. The cover only just fits, I am unsure if it is really meant to fit with the rear seats in place, but its so much easier than removing them! :( Gordon.
  5. I get the impression from this and other threads that you are doing well to have an a/c compressor last longer than 4-5years... the 1 year warranty I got with mine runs out at the end of the month... and it fills me with dread... my Sharan the ticking time bomb of cost! Gordon.
  6. Just to clarify, do you mean the 'Range' measurement on the Trip Computer or the Trip computer itself. VW seem to have removed the range measurement on there TDI engines in general. I too would be intrested to know if this can be re-enabled, or if it had really been removed from the trip computers software. Gordon. <_<
  7. Thanks, exactly what i wanted. I should of done a proper search.. didn't cross my mind that the 'ICE' section was a rather obvious place to look. Thanks again.. :( Gordon

  9. I want to run a cable between the engine bay and the passenger compartment (connecting the fog lamps to the main light switch). Any suggestions as to the easiest place to route the cable into the engine bay? TIA :( Gordon
  10. Sorry scratch that last posts website link - I hadn't ticked the 'reinforced' option in the tyre selection, doing so shows they have nothing. Sorry! :)
  11. Check out www.mytyres.co.uk They seem to have a selection of tyres of the size you want. I've not used them personally but they were recommended by a friend. My Sharan has 15" steel wheels, with 205/65 tyres. I've currently got a set of reinforced Goodyears on the front which I paid
  12. Thanks for this information, its just helped me to get my wipers operating again for my MOT tomorrow they had been getting slower over the past few days, but today they kept stopping (what wonderful timing the wipers have ...). Turns out the passenger spindle was stiff (getting really hot). I've dowsed it several time s wth release oil and it appears to be working OK again, to at least get it through the MOT and to when I can do a proper job. :o Thanks again. Gordon.
  13. I picked up the fog surrounds today and asked about the cables. The parts guy asked a technician who immediately replied that they are not present... :) Well I'm not totally convinced, but I will do what has been suggested in other threads and remove the bumper to fit the lamps and have a good nose. If in the end I have to wire them manually so be it. Thanks for the advice, I will keep you posted as to my discoveries! :) Gordon.
  14. Yes I have fitted the switch and the front fog symbol illuminates when I pull it out one notch. I can't hear any relay clicks, but neither can I hear one for the rear fog when I turn that on. I will check for the relay, but I am unsure where they are situated. I can see the fuse board, under the steering wheel, and the fuse board looks like it should move / slide out the way, are the relays behine the fuses or am I looking in the wrong place! Thanks. Gordon.
  15. My A/C wasn't working when I bought the car last year from Arnold Clark. Arnold Clark said they would have it straight back and fix it... just needs regassing they said... uhuh... :P . It took 2 months to get it sorted out with it going back several times to an a/c garage, and finally for 2.5 weeks at VW. Turned out to be the outside air temperature sensor was faulty and thus wouldnt let the A/C turn on. I now doubt if it really went to VW, as Arnold Clark seem quite often 'a stranger to the truth', like telling me when I was having turbo trouble that the VW dealer equipment couldnt talk to my car (a VW sharan) as it had a Seat ECU.... :P :P  and so they would get one of their garages to look at it. I came across the sensor when looking to fitting foglamps and it was hung off its clip attached by a cable tie with electricians tape wrapped round it... doesn't look like the work of a dealer... and to add further woes they lost my engine tray whilst fixing it! Gordon.
  16. Yes I think I will talk to them as I have to go to the dealers to pick up the surrounds, (2nd attempt, the first time they sent the ones I've already got without the fog lamp cut out). How helpful they will be is a different matter, the parts guy always seems extremely cheesed off in a "why do you bother me with such trivialities as your 4 year old car..." attitude. He seemed even more cheesed off when I told him they were the wrong grilles! Nothing better than a VW garage to make you feel special :P (well my local one at any rate). Thanks, Gordon.
  17. Having read several threads on adding fog lamps, I was of the understanding that the wiring loom was already present and all that was required was the lamps, surrounds and switch with front fog lamp support (+ possibly a relay). So I merrily purchased lamps and a switch (switch was
  18. Thanks for the information. It is a Mk2, and as you say there is no cable in the steering column but the clutch does seem to have a switch fitted. I know of the guy you are talking about as did look at his ebay items whilst reading other cruise control threads, when I'm feeling brave I will give it a go (feeling a bit disheartened with adding stuff after buying fog lamps thinking the wiring loom was there for them, only to discover I had been looking at the exterior temperature sensors and can't see hide nor hair of the fog connectors.. doh ;) . ) I do have a basic serial vag com lead and the free version of the Ross-tech's software (v311-2) do you know if this is able to enable the cruise control or do you have to buy a newer version of the software? Thanks. Gordon
  19. Having read numerous topics and posts on retro fitting cruise control I am inspired to give it a go myself on my 2001 TDI Sharan. I have bought a stalk from GSF but I am unsure as to the wiring loom I need to buy, is it the same one as I've seen referred to when fitting it to a Mk4 Golf / Bora. I know that people have performed this upgrade succesfully and would be grateful if someone could shed some light on this for me.... Thanks, Gordon.
