Yep, my booster heater will not communicate unless the engine is running. (Mk2). ^_^ Gordon

Mines the same age with the old style 'banana' wipers and I considered doing exactly the same, however you need to change the wiper arms to fit the 'aero blades'. There has been talk of Bosch producing a 'conversion kit' but nothing seems to have happened when I changed mine a couple of months ago. Gordon

Drivers Door Mirror
Rallim replied to Ogben Schmutzel's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I broke mine putting it back on, I think it must not have been properly aligned or when I pushed it back I was not pushing it in squarely onto the motor, basically I was not taking the care that I had previously. I've prised mine off with a large screw driver, to be honest I haven't worked out a best technique, sometimes they seem to pop off easily, other times they seemed to resist!!! Just be cautious, which I think you will be anyway with a -
Drivers Door Mirror
Rallim replied to Ogben Schmutzel's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
My drivers side mirror on my Sharan didn't heat up; I was about to buy a Galaxy one which was as you found cheaper - not realising it was different. I ended up taking a picture of a mk2 Galaxy mirror in the company car park and compared it to mine... :16: Word of warning be careful removing the mirror, it just clips in - but on different attempts at getting a replacement glass (involving 2nd hand Golf mirror which also didnt heat up either!) I damaged the motor mechanism when pushing it in and it became all 'floppy'. In the end I bought a -
Drivers Door Mirror

Mk2 Galaxy's wing mirrors are a different shape to Sharan's and Alhambras and therefore incompatible. The Sharan and Alhambra are the same, which is also the same as the Mk4 Golf and I think Passat. Gordon -
Booster Heater.. No Dont Shoot Me
Rallim replied to lydanial's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It is my understanding that the booster heater is not just for passenger comfort but to also keep the engine at normal working temperature, which when its cold and the booster heater does not work it does not reach. You cannot replace the plug with the heater bolted to the car it has to be taken off but you can leave all the water pipes connected and repair in 'situ'. As for billowing smoke as I described in an earlier post mine was doing exactly that (it did not subside with time, it only stopped when the heater switched off) and was cured with changing the plug . If yours are not 'aero twin' wiper I bought a set of Bosch super plus from this guy on ebay... Here Gordon

Booster Heater.. No Dont Shoot Me
Rallim replied to lydanial's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I had exactly the same with my booster heater. When I first got the car it wasn't even working, it was reading posts on this site that made me relaise I did have one fitted. I used VAG-COM to talk to it (it won't talk to the Aux Heater' unless the engine is running - well that's what I found with mine), it had had 5 flame-outs and locked out. I cleared the faults and lo and behold the next colder day the jet engine noise was heard and the car warmed up far quicker than ever before. :) It worked OK for a few weeks and then the wife started reporting problems of it smoking (she drives it more than me), with embarrassing incidents where people had asked if the car was on fire. I interrogated it again with VAG-COM and a few more errors had appeared. I foolishly cleared them and so it continued to smoke. That was last year, beginning of this year. Then in October it started to come on again, and consequently smoke again - so I took the plunge and bought a new glow plug from the VW dealer. Since doing so it has not smoked since, I'm not saying for definite it will cure your problem, it may well be the metering pump, but it certainly cured mine. Hope this encourages you! Gordon PS Make sure you give the bolt that attaches the booster exhaust pipe to the car lots of wd40, I missed it out and rounded the bolt of and so had to remove the hole hanger assembly - a right pain in the bum! -
Lubricate Wiper Mechanism In-situ?
Rallim replied to PhilT's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
When my wipers started to go slow, then start-stop it was a day before the MOT, so I dowsed the spindles in WD40, it worked for the MOT and a few days afterwards, and then they started stuttering again. Taking them apart I realised that spraying them wasn't really touching the surface, they were corroded at the base with black hard grease remnants all over the spindle and its housing. The spindles needed seriously cleaning before smothering with grease and putting them back together. I have tried to make sure the wiper spindle top and bolts have a constant layer of grease to stop moisture penetration, they are still working a year and half later, but time will tell! Gordon. -
Thanks for the information, I think this is what I was remembering reading that the mounts are the same, but unaware of the height differences... :D I'd seen a ford mk1 tow bar on ebay in my town, so it got me wondering... Gordon
-
I'm just loooking for clarification... I was under the impression that tow bars which fit a mk1 galaxy/sharan/alhambra will fit a mk2. More specifically an original 'ford' galaxy tow bar will fit my mk2 Sharan? I'm sure I have seen it somewhere on the Forum but my initial searches did not pull out a definitive answer.... I'm not concerned about the wiring as I know they made it more awkward in the mk2 and I have already fitted a socket for a bike rack light board. TIA. Gordon.

Heated Windscreen Wiring Diagram.
Rallim replied to VeeDub Nutter's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I put in details for 1998 TDI Sharan into elsa win and this is what I found in terms of wiring diagrams... only glanced at it but it seems to have the whole circuit, but I could be wrong... Gordon heated_screen.pdf -
You are more than likely to have to run a cable from the cruise control stalk into the engine bay to the ECU. I believe the Mk1 cable was pre-fitted, but not the the Mk2. When I tried this job it all came unstuck when the wiring diagrams showing the cruise control connections to the ecu did not match the ecu connectors fitted to my car... :D Gordon.

It wasn't too bad, I got my info from this thread & a wiring diagram... Auto Dipping Mirror I found the switched power at the connector under the front dash left speaker. Gordon

That's very interesting, and I think it explains the loss of power problem I had with mine when I first bought it. The same thing was done, MAF changed - worked for a while then started to do the loss of power thing again - notably 3rd / 4th gear whilst accelerating. It then had a pipe changed, egr and other bits and pieces, eventually the car dealer (Arnold Clarke) let me take it to VW, who diagnosed it as needing a new turbo. Which is what it had (under warranty) the bill came to

Having just fitted an auto dipping rear mirror to my mk2 Sharan, I have had the A pillar liners off, the interior lighting loom runs up left side of the windscreen, at the base by very small window under the vent there are terminal blocks. Maybe when they changed the windscreen the disturbed the loom or the block? :) According to the VW CD the interior lights are off Fuse 53 for mine a 2001 and a 2004 model. Gordon

When fitted the bulb failure warning comes on every time you turn on the ignition - extinguishing when you press the brake pedal. Gordon -
Fitting 3 Point Belt To Center Rear Seat
Rallim replied to funbus's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
IIRC the mount in the roof is only fitted if specified, so earlier mk2's which had a lap belt on the middle seat do not have a mount point in the roof. :( Gordon -
Galaxy Wiring Colours

Yes, I believe you do, if I remember correctly the unregistered version will not let you write 'control codes' to modules - which is what you have to do to turn the trailer indicator on. Gordon -

Galaxy Wiring Colours
Rallim replied to shifty42's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
My interpretation of the diagrams showing towbar electrics was to wire directly to the loom but a general concensous is to use a relay. My bulb failure still works with it wired directly. It is also worth pointing out that the dashboard trailor indicator (has to be enabled using VAG-COM) uses the additonal current drawn from the indicators to sense when it should come on. Gordon. -
Galaxy Wiring Colours

I did this job last year when I wired my Sharan up for a lighting board. I had to grab wires from both side compartments, from my notes & TIS disk (and my 2001 Sharan complied with it...) Fog - Grey/White Reversing lamp - Black/Blue LH Tail - Grey/White RH Tail - Grey/Red LH Stop - Black/White RH Stop - Black/Red LH Turn - Black/White RH Turn - Black/Green Hope this is of some help. Heater Unit Controls Interchangeable ?
Rallim replied to mumble_bee's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I think the manual ac still has electronic flaps etc (there is noticeable delay when you quickly turn the air from the windscreen to the face vents, and likewise when you put it on recirculation). But I do agree there is probably still significant mods, as doen't the cc not have the roof mounted controls for the rear heat exchanger?? Plus cc has the sunlight compensation sensor... and it would not surprise me that the rear connectors to the control panels were completely different. One can dream though... Gordon (also with manual ac... :D )
