  1. Evening all, Can any of the well versed in all things Ford/ Galaxy / technical ascertain whether item 454790670 currently on e-bay would suit my r-reg Galaxy? I'm looking for an infra red remote key(fob)but the description suggests this is for a later therefore radio controlled key????.It does look very similar to the picture in the handbook, though no doubt someone will tell me that they all look the same! Ah well... By the way has anyone actually bought a new key/fob /cut and programme (i/r) recently for a sum that doesn,t equal the national debt? I enquired of vw main dealer today ... a sum of
  2. Ferg, Hi, it's 1997 on an "R". Steve.
  3. Evening All, I'm about to set out on the journey of the towbar fitting experience and all that it entails!...Well when it arrives! Obviously I have read the plethora of advice and experience that these good pages have got to offer. Now, I have located the elusive socket in the lhs recess which is the easy part ,but was wondering whether there was a part no (Ford)for a plug that this could mate up to , or do people reccommend just using scotch clips up river from the socket?I've been down to the local main dealers for some other bits and asked them to locate said plug on their computer.......well you can guess the rest ... it could have been Apollo 13 we were looking for all we knew. So if anyone has been down this route before and knows the number (or a suitable alternative )please let me know. Another problem on the horizon concerns the infra red remote control. As I mentioned in a previous post I was not given a remote key..lost perhaps? Anyway before I go down the expensive route of new remote / cutting /programming etc is there a way of ascertaining whether the blessed system works in the first place? The bloke in Fords reckoned they could plug in a diagnostic thingy but that would only show compatability with (the key/remote??) and not prove that the i/r system works.(and I thought my GTTurbo was complicated....Ah well life's rich tapestry! Anyway suggestions gratefully received. Regards to all readers. Steve S.
  4. Aaaaaaah..... so thats what it is! Yes there is a similar unit hiding behind the mirror. I've only owned cars with one of these (in the front) Well thats a load of my mind! Unfortunately I wasn't given a remote control with the car.. Either lost or never had one. I can't think how I could find out either ..Any ideas? Also any suggestions where I might come across the missing surround? Is it likely to be available at the main dealer for eg. or is a scrapyard a good bet? Steve S.
  5. Hi everyone, Well, after two weeks of Galaxy ownership I'm gradually getting familiar with it's foibles. ( Is that the right word?) Already it appears that the air con is duff.....what a surprise.I'm getting it re gassed this coming week and am hoping that it cures it's indifference no doubt it will only search out more weaknesses in the system! See how pessimistic reading the posts on this website make you !!! Anyway, can someone tell me what the electrical thingy is that sits in the headliner adjacent to the middle of the hatch door? It has 3 wires going to it and has the following hyroglyphics written upon it. PA.12, PA 6-GF 30. It's basically a little plastic box with a dome on it. I feel it should have some sort of cover on it but this is missing. The car by the way is a 2.8 Ultima.I await with interest your prognoses. Cheers , Steve S.
  6. Dear All, Thanks for all the replies....however,the mists of confusion are beginning to circle! Are we saying that pre face-lift models need their bumpers cut no matter what bar/ball arrangement you choose, or is there in fact a brand of bar in existence that avoids this? ( or am I just a little paranoid about a small snip.. if you'll excuse the expression!) Tim,I hope you can help with this, sorry to sound like a bit of a dork! By the way anybody got any thoughts about the roof rail question I posed? I can't actually remember whether the roof had provision for the rails or not or whether it was seamless. Latrine...I live near Nottingham but originate many(many!)years ago from near Middlesbrough . Regards, Steve S.
  7. Dear Tim, Thanks a lot for your guidance...very useful. Do you have any preference for the type of ball, I think it's probably down to the look of it in the end, unless the swanneck has advantages, such as clearance, over the flange??? type.Do you know the part no. for your bar by any chance? Cheers, Steve S. Dear Latrine, Let me you know which route you decide on. I think you'll be ahead of me on this one as I have'nt taken delivery of mine yet,but there's no harm in forward planning! S.
  8. Dear All, Firstly hi to everybody,I've just bought my first Galaxy. It's an R reg Ultima bought mainly to ferry aged relatives about but also my drum kit etc. I've trawled through the posts relating to this tow-bar thing but there doesn't seem to be a consensus as to which is the "best" after market towbar and ball. I don't mind it being a pemanent fit, but would rather not cut the rear bumper.Does this limit me to the type of ball ? ie detachable/swanneck/two bolt common type etc. I read the discussion on electrics with trepidation but I think due to the age of the car the problems with parking sensors doesn't apply and I assume its got that nice socket in the rh cover.(I've not taken delivery yet) So, if you've got any suggestions I would be pleased to hear from you. Also, I would be pleased to hear from other Ultima owners as to what they think on the question whether it is possible to retro fit the roof bar rails as this model never had them. Thanks in anticipation, Steve S.
