For those with a very slow leak, try getting a new Expansion Cap. Its common for these to leak on VWs and slowly realease steam over time dropping the water level gradualy.

Are they not totally different engines. e.g 2.0 is VW Design Engine and the 2.3 a Ford one.

No Gears What So Ever Help Please
Sharanfx replied to kwakzx62003's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Place the axle stands on the wishbones then so the wheels stay level. Its not as if your going to run it for long periods of time, It sounds like its not going to drive anyway. -

To be safe jack the front up and put it on axle stands then stick it in reverse. You can then stick your head under and have a good look. -
Engine Speed sensor is also a common failure on the VR6. It does sometimes starts as a misfire and eventually gives up the ghost. Basically the ECU wont know that the engine is turning, hence does not fire the coilpack.
-
Dont forget the new Sharan will be out next Year. Its also a totally different design to the current Mk2s and the new Galaxy. Also uses the new range of VW engines 2.0 TDIs 140 and 170PS and a new 2.0 Turbo as in the GTI and 3.2 FSI version

Other option that I recently had to use to get a rounded off hex bolt out, was to hammer in a similar over sized torx socket into it, which griped enough to get it off.

Clean the throttle body and with a carb cleaner and remove any build up of deposits. Then try to re-adapt the throttle-body using a computer to set up the basic settings.
-
Ok missed that it was a 24V. If these engines have a misfire they will record a fault in the ECU. Have you had it scaned with a VAG com or similar device to see if there are any fault codes recorded. Other possible causes could be coolant temp sensor or engine speed sensor giving a false reading.
-
Have you changed all the leads. They are prone to breaking down or being damaged when removed.
-
Thats a fair comment, Is there a check i can do to test the coil pack ?? The Coil packs breakdown and start to crack and let in moisure. If its not a constantly misfiring cylinder, it cam be hard to locate. Connect a known good lead with a sparkplug on the end touching earth (use a insulated pair of pliers) to earth. Connecting it to each of the outputs in turn a checking for a spark. Its also worth removing the coilpack and inspecting it for dammage or cracks. Its been said before, you can bake it in an oven on low heat to try and dry out any moisture. If it works well after that the coil pack is definatly cracked somewhere and the fault will soon return. If a crack is found you can temp. seal it up with aradite. Has it now had a complete new set of leads? The leads are not rubust, and can easily break if pulled out without a removal tool. You could always get hold of a coilpack to test it out (return it unused if not needed  ).

Leads and plugs are your first point of call as it sound like they need replacing. You would be supprised how bad one cylinder mis-fire is on a V6. German Swedish and French can sell you a set of leads and plugs at a good price as its a VW engine. Then check your coilpack it could be breaking down to earth. Its a common fault with the VR6 engine. The engine is Chain driven so its highly unlikely the valve timing is out un less your tensioners are compleatly shot, but the chain mould be constantly rattling. Check the Air intake pipe again, make sure its not loose after the Airflow meter (MAF) and sort out the loose clips on the pipe, as your be sucking in un-filterered or possibly un-metered air.

To stop them falling backwards .....push the middle row back again, wedging the rear seats in the folded position.

This is as far as Ive gone, polished Inlet on the VR6 and a few touches. http://www.fxs.co.uk/webpics/Sharan3.jpg http://www.fxs.co.uk/webpics/Sharan1.jpg

I use Adrian Flux for mine, and all the Mods are listed, Bodywork, engine & Wheels. They do good prices on VWs I pay
-
Not TT wheels or Mk4 golf wheels they are all 5x100. All Mk5 Golf Passat and most Merc wheels are 5x112.
-
Always find the south side a lot quieter. But as your coming on from the north side it seems a bit pointles to come all the way round the west half which can be bad between the M1 and M4 that time of the morning. Best of luck...your need it.
-
Dont forget you can also fit Audi and Merc rims as well.
-
It would make sense that its more ecconomical, same type of engine and a lighter car. Its a far more modern design than the Sharan/Galaxy but a little smaller. Nice car to drive and based on the MK5 golf platform.
