HI ITS A 2.8V6 1997
-
when the fans come on they seem to come on full wack there are only on for about 1 min if that
-
AFAIK thats the correct operation, fan 1 only comes on independantly when the A/C is switched. They come on together to control the engine temperature but have 3 speeds in total so there is quite a bit of control. I doubt VagCom will tell you much about the problem but its very likely to be either a stuck thermostat or failed water pump with my money being on the former. thanks for that can you explain why a stuck thermostat or failed water pump whould stop the fans coming on till the temp is in the red thought the fans worked on temp of water sorry for being so thick cheers dave
-
the two fans on the rad dont come on untill the neddle is just entering the red then they both come on and pull the temp down i thought that one of the fans should come on first to stop the temp going anywhere near the red is this a job for VAG COM will that be able to tell me why its getting so hot before both fans cut in cheers dave

Not Getting Hot

I had this problem on my 52 plate Mkll Zetec. It turned out to be the impellor problem in the water pump. The impellor had as is normal fallen off, and could not pump water to the heater system. Eventually (after a few days) the car started to overheat and a new water pump was required. I think you may find you have the same problem is that the same for me dont you just hate it when someone else jumps in and post there problem on your page -

hi all happy new year ive noticed today that the ciger lighter and the rear sockets are not working and looking on the hand book i cant see what fuse does what is it the same fuse for the front and back sockets or does something link them many thanks dave

do you mean heater pipe or aircon pipe? either one is probs going to require half the dash fascia removed to replace heater matrix or similar unfortunately. hi sorry i will try again if you look under the bonnet at where the heating pipes thorough the bulkhead if you remove the hose at this point you are left with two bits of plastic pipe one of these have snaped off i think im confusing myself now hope someone out there understands

hi all i have a 97 2.8v6 ghia x when iam in traffic the temp gauge goes right up just into the red then both fans cut in a pulls the temp back down Ive had this checked out in a garage and he said that the water temp (tested it with a temp laser gun) was not getting as hot as what the gauge was saying weather you can test the water temp like this i don't know when you have two fans on the rad should one come in before the other to stop the gauge reaching the red and then if it goes into the red both fans cut in like a emergency to get the temp down if this is right what can be stopping the first fan cutting in a reasonable temp please help as wife is driving me mad thinking the car is going to blow up got your reply out the resister 27 someone else said it could be on of the sensors on the thermostat there are 3. or could it be one of these relays on the slam panel at fault please help me out -
