Radiator Cold, Engine Stinking Hot
Masked Marauder replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I can see that I am going to have to catch up with modern engines at some stage. -
Yes they will fit a MK2, they are a straight swap.

Disc Skim At 50k?
Masked Marauder replied to Ogben Schmutzel's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
From my personal research the biggest cause of warped front discs is drivers holding the vehicle on the foot brake after they have stopped. This causes localised heat build-up as the discs take up the heat from the pads as the rest of the disc cools. Warping is sure to follow.... -

Worn Brake Pad Warning Light?
Masked Marauder replied to Manxman's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The pad sensor is a loop of wire in a plastic pad and the sytem puts a very low voltage through it, when the pad wears away the wire is cut and the voltage is lost. The system then detects this and warns you by lighting the lamp in the cluster. So if you look at the sensor and it looks undamaged then the problem is elsewhere, it could be a bad connection or a broken wire or as NikpV has said a faulty instrument cluster. -
Galaxy 2.0 Petrol 1996 Noisy Tappets
Masked Marauder replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
How many seem noisy? They inflate with the engine oil so if it is one or two then it is likely they are gummed up, a good oil flush may solve it. If not you need to find out which are the noisy ones and replace them. As long as it is not camshaft wear..... -
Radiator Cold, Engine Stinking Hot
Masked Marauder replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Well I am going to put my tuppence in here. I have NEVER ever owned a car that ran hotter with no thermostat in. As for blocking the bypass, every car I have owned the thermostat housing has been a simple open or shut design and fluid dynamics dictate water will take the least course of resistance so the system is designed to take advantage of that. If the stat is shut the water is forced round the engine again through a smaller pipe at a higher pressure. when the stat is open it flows through the less-ressistant radiator. With no stat blocking the rad off then this is even more the case. -
I agree this will most likely end up knock for knock. There is always a witness, you just have to look hard enough.

Forget the sensors, they are for the infra-red remote that was phased out before 1998. 1998 models should have a radio remote. These do die. Have the fob checked at a dealers.

Why is the area known as "The Wirral" and people say "on The Wirral," although it's correnct name is simply "Wirral." I would never say I am from "The Northamptonshire"

Wow, a year between posts! Please don't bump old threads!

Trouble is selling a full set. There is not a lot of demand so it is likely a buyers market for everything but the child seats. So they are only worth the best offer....

Clutch Fail (i Think)
Masked Marauder replied to gazza007's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If your loosing brake fluid then it will be the clutch slave cylinder, if not then the likely problem is the clutch master cylinder. If the friction lining of the clutch friction (driven) plate has failed and broken away then bits can jamb between the friction plate and the flywheel giving the same symptoms. But if the gearbox has to come off then I suggest you get a new slave cylinder anyway, as the gearbox has to come off to change it and if it fails at a later date then it is going to be big bucks to fix it. -
The pass key has to be entered into the router and converted to 13 hexidecimal pairs, this is then the passkey you need to put into the box asking for the passkey on your lappy. So say your passkey word was fordgalaxy, that converts to D3 13 D9 CC 20 3A 09 8D C4 67 5B 10 1B and that (without spaces) is what you need to put into the PC. This is the most common mistake made by home users who try to set their wireless kit up. They then give up and don't use WEP encryption.

Air friction causes a static build-up on the car's body shell, you get out, touch the car and it grounds through you. Generally the hotter the weather the worse the phenomenon. And you really don't want to have to grab a helicopter winch wire for the same reason, but worse, think of all the static off the rotors! A cure? a static grounding rubber dangly thing that has a wire down the inside.....

I could. And it does not take many packets to sniff the MAC and the WEP Key. Thank heaven for all the open networks, Skype on a pocket PC saves a fortune compared to mobile calls......

They are just trying to lull you into a false sense of security.
