Cambelt Or Timing Chain
jkspoff replied to pj_andrew's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
They are pulling a fast one, it has a chain which is good for several hundred thousand miles, unless faulty. -
Any type of modification that takes away the original factory fit specification is quite often a 'get out clause' of paying in a policy, beware, if you had informed the warranty company of the alterations when they were done there is a good chance the policy premium would not have been increased and they would pay out on the appropriate claim. I informed my insurance company of anything and everything I alter, they never increase the premium, they just like to know, and it means they can't refuse a pay out.

Overheating 1.9tdi
jkspoff replied to DerekLaverty's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Test the expansion bottle pressure cap, these are a known issue with the 1.9 Tdi, and was a fault with mine recently. Test the cap with a coolant pressure tester. -
These Nexen tyres are directional, and you can tell they are quieter than the Dunlops I had on before.

Nexen N3000's fitted this week, so far they seem to offer outstanding grip in the wet weather we've had. They are apparently made by a division of Michelin, but I cannot verify it. Anyway for

Just ordered 2 front Nexen 3000 XL for the Gal, read some good reports on them on the web and here, www.blackcircles.com, with 5% discount when you put 'GALAXY' into the voucher discount box. Will report back when they are fitted.

I had my Galaxy 115 Tdi remapped over a year ago, it was absolutely superb, it made an MPV into an entertaining car, but it came with consequences. As soon as I put the engine under full load with a caravan attached the extra power was too much, it was overheating and risking the whole engine. The fuel consumption is completely impossible to be better with any type of add on or remap that outputs more power, it is simple physics. By all means get it done if all you do is drive around with little load, but make sure you do all the necessary modifications else where or you risk a very hefty bill. If you want to go fast in an MPV then buy a performance MPV, maybe the titanium s-max or the like..............If it was that easy then why doesn't the manufacture do it, the larger engined Galaxy and the like have other modifications. I am speaking from experience, it is absolutely superb to have the extra perfromance, but beware.

The rain is now driving us all mad, even the dog is deeply depressed, kids need sun and playing out time, but even as I speak the rain is torrential. The BBQ that we bought 3 months ago has still not be used once yet. I just hope now that the schools broke up today in our area that the sun arrives ASAP as I don't know what we'll do with them for 6 long weeks of rain rain rain...........but I suppose thats why this thread has bee started, look forward to seeing the suggestions before I go completely stir crazy !

We want to escape the horrendous British summer we are having, the worst I can remember for a long long time, for the summery shores of somewhere else in Europe. The only problem is we have to take holidays just like many other people at school term end, this means significantly hiked up prices on all flights. We are severely penalised for having children school age, for example, Jet2, ThomsonFly, EasyJet etc are offering flights a third the price the week before the hols. They shouldn't be aloud to do this, and should just be a first come first served standard price. I would be happy to pay slightly higher prices all year round and have the same prices in peak season. To get 4 of us out in October half term would still be nearly

Luckily its down hill on the way there ! :o Good luck, I am sure she'll be fine, just make sure your A/C is working as it gets rather hot down there in August, and get European breakdown cover just in case.

Since starting this thread I have bought and installed Vista Home Premium edition on my Vaio, and I have to say that so far I am very impressed. Ignore any bad press that you may have heard, people are always too quick to criticise anything new. The install took a couple of hours, but needs no prompting, so can be left overnight if necessary to get on with it. I chose to upgrade from XP, this method tranfers everything across to the new platform, and believe it or not everything worked, all my old software and all my old hardware, with no additional drivers required, it checks the net and installs them automatically during the install. It doesn't actually do much more than XP did, but it is afterall a luxury upgrade for the time being. Its just nice to try and keep up with the latest technological advances! The overall look and feel is superior to XP, the stability is perfect and I would highly recommend it. Rather than me list all the new features, click the Microsoft link below and see it for yourself. Just to reiterate, I had no issues whatsoever with any XP software, or any XP drivers during the upgrade, shop around for the prices as they vary quite a lot. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/...es/default.mspx

Very Strange Running Problem On 1.9tdi
jkspoff replied to degens's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It might sound obvious, but have you tried disconnecting the battery and resetting the ECU, this has worked in the past with similar faults. -
or do a 'google' search for Ford radio code

Main Dealer Servicing
jkspoff replied to italiastar's topic in What thing irritate you about your Galaxy
Avoid using main dealers at all, in my experience they over charge and are useless. -
The final verdict on my overheating problem that may help others: It was down to 2 main things: ECU remap, when pulling the caravan only, the engine could not cope with the extra heat that was generated with the extra power. Solution: Remap removed for free. Expansion bottle cap, the pressure attachment inside the cap was worn down and not keeping pressure. Solution: Replaced expansion cap for

Have you got one of these Motormovers ? I was looking at some in a magazine. How exactly do they work ?

My caravan storage place has decided to mark out bays for each caravan, there is now about 1 to 2 feet max between each van, making it difficult to manoevre it into its space, as it is also on a slight slope. I was just wondering how this compared to other storage companies that you may have used or use. They charge about
