Don't forget, more weight, more fuel used, so in these times when fuel is so expensive we should be reducing the amount of things in the car, I took out a seat the other day, that must save a few quid as they are so heavy !
Thanks for the info, maybe the main agents aren't quite that bad after all, have you got any further with this yet ? It sounds to me like a job for trading standards: http://www.ts.wyjs.org.uk/index.asp?pg=Indexhome.htm
Welcome to this plethera of information that will no doubt prove invaluable for your ownership of the Galaxy, they are great cars and with a bit of TLC it'll see you right for a long time, and with 4 kids its ideal ! Fire away with any questions.
With my previous Galaxy that had issues with air con my Ford dealer after several failed attempts at fixing it actually recommended that I took it to a VW dealer !
The 1.9Tdi VW engine used in the Sharan/Alhambra/Galaxy has fairly low emissions that are below the new tax charges, so fortunately the road tax will stay relatively the same. The only ones it will effect are the 2.3 litre petrol and V6 variants. The VAG COM diagnostics is free to download from the web and run, all you need is a lead, they are available on ebay, this will allow you to run a full diagnostics and get the relevant fault codes. Sorry I'm not in your area though. See below links: http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/download/ http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-VAG-COM-409-1-OB...1QQcmdZViewItem
Oops, not allowed to post the link, sorry......as mentioned try ebay or search Google for the software, although most Ford dealers will provide the code for free, with a few security checks, if its the original radio.

I'm pretty sure it is not a multichanger plug, as mine is completely different. it looks like it could be from a previously installed device, like you say a Sat Nav Unit or accessory, maybe a DVD player.
Not bought any yet, but plan to, I saw a Sharan with them fitted yesterday (are they now fitted as standard) and they looked a lot better than the usual sills.
Check the version/print date of the manual (its printed on the back bottom right corner), is it 2001 ? or is it a later manual for the Gal i.e. >2003 ?
