  1. I'll second VR6s comments regarding getting a good plug lead removal tool. I wouldn't attempt the job without one as it is a pig of a job to access the back plugs. I made the mistake of buying a tool from VW. It cost
  2. Had a problem with one of my injectors not spraying a couple of months ago. I think dirt entered the system when the main air intake came off the throttle body. Symptoms are a VERY noticable loss of power and misfire. I don't think there are any easy way to test the injectors, the only way to confirm that the injector is faulty is to remove it and test it. Ford diagnosed mine (after approx 20 hours labour). I got all 6 reconditioned at Lucas -
  3. My 1998 RHD emits a high pitched beep. It is under the light switch.
  4. In my experience the insurance companies have been very generous when valuing cars. I buy all of my cars from auction. Yes, at auction a 1998 Galaxy V6 will only fetch around
  5. I'd GUESS at between
  6. I'll put it back on eBay with a better description. I have made do with the cracked mirror for the last 2 years - the crack does help cover part of the blind spot!
  7. I had forgotton the mirror was heated. The only option I have with the one I have bought is to stick in on top of the broken mirror - not ideal.
  8. Can someone please tell me how the wing mirror glass is held in place on a mk1 Galaxy. Before I start putting some force into it I need to know how it is held. Have just bought a replacement mirror on eBay (
  9. When there is a problem with engine/gearbox ECU will default to third in-order to limp home. The auto specialists should have read any fault codes on the engine/gearbox, checked the transmission fluid level and took it for a test drive. They should then have been able to diagnose any fault. I didn't think the ECU failing was a very common problem but there could be a 100 reasons why the gearbox is in third. I would go back to the auto specialist (unless car is under warranty) before going on holiday to get it sorted.
  10. My display used to flash on startup. It hasn't done it now for around 12 months. As long as it is working ok I wouldn't worry too much about it.
  11. Thanks Redneck. Don't how I come to aquire that?
  12. Apologies if this is not a Galaxy part but I have just found it among various Galaxy parts while having a sort out. It looks like a door mirror cover - FINNIS code 7181071. Can anyone please identify it and advise on the part/model/year? Thanks
  13. Sharan has a 2.8 V6 manual. Don't know what her boyfriend drives.
  14. You need to diagnose the fault as changing the PCM is an expensive business. It is located on the righthand side of the engine compartment near the battery. I would start with a gearbox service by a autobox specialist. They will check the fluid level, read any fault codes and test drive. You should have change from
  15. Just got back from the garage. I put 41 PSI in the fronts and 38 in the rears. I figured that the 2.8 lump needed at least 40 PSI and I didn't want to be running the backs much lower. Don't know whether it is because the sun is shining but it does seem to handle a bit better.
  16. Just had a look behind my petrol flap (spend a lot of time with it open but have never read the chart). The pressures quoted 33/30 are for 215/60 R15. Mine are 215/55 R16. Thought I would check the owners guide. 215/60 R15 (they don't quote for 215/55 R16) it says 34/31 - different to what is on the petrol flap for up to half load??? Had to laugh as the owners guide also advises on tyre pressure for continued driving at high speeds - it says 'for every 6mph over 118 mph add 3 PSi. Can anyone please confirm whether the pressures should be higher for 215/55 R16 than 215/60 R15. Thanks
  17. Now I am confused. That's a big difference???

  19. Both go on to the top spigot - one at right angles to the other. Nothing is connected to the bottom spigot.
  20. Try a new expansion tank filler cap.
  21. Thanks Velcrohead. I don't know where I got 40/42 from.
  22. Is car overheating before erupting coolant? Check for other signs of head gasket failure - exhaust gasses/oil in expansion tank, water in the engine oil or exhaust emitting white smoke/steam.
  23. I have always run the tyres between 40-42 PSI depending on how fat my passengers were. While having a new tyre fitted recently I asked the chap to put in 40 PSI. He said that I shouldn't be putting in more than 36 PSI maximum. Can anyone advise.
  24. Due to the fact that everything you seem to do on the V®6 requires you to remove the air filter I think the jubilee type clip which attaches the air intake hose to the throttle body had worked loose whilst replacing water pump, plugs, leads and belt tensioner over a 6 month period.
  25. Can you let us know if you solve the problem maghouse. I noticed some oil on my main air intake hose and didn't think much of it until the hose came off the throttle body one evening. When working on the air intake hose I would just check that it is secure on the throttle body - just in case. I ended up with an blocked injector that wouldn't spray. Cost me a fortune.
