  1. There is also a similar sound to the lights on warning which is the door open warning which occurs if the doors are open and you start the engine. This also happens if the door switch gets stuck.
  2. Is this a feature on the very latest models ( ie 2004/5) or all models?
  3. The auto drive in both of my galaxies (Mk1 & Mk2) never disengaged when the brake pedal was touched. I use the brake pedal for controlling the speed when parking and manouvering.
  4. The galaxy auto does move and it will even hold itself on a slight hill and do an unassisted hill start. The handbrake only just stops it from moving, especially when cold and the engine is revving slightly and you really require the footbrake to hold it still. You should put it in park or neutral when waiting at lights. It never gets close to stalling from the drag.
  5. Change the readings from mph to kph then you will think you are going faster.
  6. The 27Mhz crystal did not work and I considered changing the crystal in the receiver as well to match, but oddly it was a different frequency again, 26.564Mhz. I am not sure why the Tx and Rx should have different frequencies. Then again I may have damaged the dual-layer board when removing the Xtal.
  7. I will try with a 27Mhz Crystal as after all it is just the (433Mhz) carrier frequency of the radio signal , not a synchronous digital transmission, so the difference in frequency should only mean a minor decrease in signal, the cut off filters are not that sharp.
  8. Thanks for the quick response. There is nothing on the other side of the Crystal but on reading the front again it looks like a 26.995Mhz crystal. I suppose the transmitter is a 433Mhz (the part number is (A433) which would mean a 16x multiplier. However, I cannot find a 49U Crystal at 26.995Mhz. Is 27Mhz close enough or do they have to be spot on?
  9. Not strictly a Galaxy question but the remote control sender in my Galaxy that opens my garage door has failed. I have traced the fault to the large component in the sender marked "M.E.C. 26.9.95 12/98". I have attached the picture to this message. If you cannot see the component in the picture it is a small silver metal can about 14mm x 8mm x 3mm with two leads, one of which has snapped off. Can anyone accurately identify this component from the description and picture so I can buy a replacement? If more information is required on the component such as a value, where would I get this from, ie would there be further information on the other side of the can if I removed it from the PCB?
  10. Have you seen this new site, gives you the lowest fuel prices in your area? www.petrolprices.com
  11. Then you neglect the device on the garage shelf for months, come to use it and the battery has flattened itself.......
  12. There are also the instant start devices which are basically a small lead acid battery in a box with built in jump leads and you can often get them for around
  13. The galaxy has three connections to the windscreen and one of these could be making a poor contact. There are 12V supplies to either side of the windscreen and these can be found running below the dash side vents by the quarterlights then up the side of the screen. The ground comes off the top middle of the screen and is a plastic flexible strip with several copper conductors in it. This is connected to a ground post in the roof lining about 5 cm away from the top middle of the screen. Check all of these connectors for good conductivity, the connectors are properly mated at both sides of the screen and check the earth strip is properly connected to the post, when my windscreen was replaced it was not.
  14. It is probably a cable flapping against the roof under the lining. Have you had an aerial fitted for a car phone or similar? More often than not when these are fitted they don't bother to tape the cable to the roof so it rattles and drums.
  15. I forgot that you get an extra gear in the manual!
  16. I thought the 5 speed gearbox was not introduced until the facelift in late 2000?
  17. I seem to remember only paying about
  18. If it can be reset by disconnecting it, it would be simpler to disconnect the battery. Make sure you know your radio code.
  19. If you had a leak that bad, the car would stink of petrol. Another possibility is that you did not fill it up as you thought. I have done this before where you are filling the car, the petrol splashes back and the pump cuts out. You think the tank is full yet it is not. Parking on a steep hill can also seriously affect the gauge reading. Front down makes it read low.
  20. I suppose as I now drive an auto, I don't take much notice about the clutch or what gear I am in. I have noticed though with a low revving deisel and a high ratio gear such as the original land-rovers, you can just take your foot of the clutch from a stop without even slipping it or using the throttle. You cannot do that with a high revving petrol! I believe that auto galaxies (both types) can tow a higher weight than the none auto.
  21. Or a pushbike which has ~175Nm at the crank. Fair torque but f'all use for pulling a caravan.
  22. Utter rubbish that would fail GCSE physics. Power = Force x Velocity or Power = Torque x Angular Velocity Power is the rate that work can be done. The TDI produces more torque at the crankshaft but far less at the wheels as it has a different gear ratio.
  23. What you want to do would require the electronics chipping and I don't know if you are able to do this. If you are concerned about the wear on your engine why drive in that manner, after all it is a people carrier, not a sports car?
  24. Are you sure it is not the belt tensioner next to the air con that it rattling?
  25. On the early Galaxies you could pay
