...or try the parts counter at your nearest dealer. They should have a clever computer system that gives you this info from the vehicle registration number (well, my local dealer did this for me when I wanted a touch-up stick).

Apparently not all Ford dealers are "connected" to tthe Ford Direct system. If you're having problems, I suggest you phone or e-mail Ford and ask for help plus name of nearest dealer who is in the scheme.

Will try to take some photos tomorrow if it stays dry outside.

Switching Off Atc Aircon
Ivor_E_Tower replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
"Econ" gives same functions as "Auto" but without the dehumidifying effect of the aircon. "Off" shuts all automatic vent movements off but I doubt that it stops fresh air from entering the cabin. -
I hope that the correct way is "in gear" when parked - additional protection against roll-away due to brake mechanism cooling and contracting etc etc. Autos have a special "P" position to lock the transmission rather than leave in neutral, so I would hope that manuals should be left in gear......
-
It's normal and don't worry about it. If you're parking up for a week-end or longer (eg going on holiday) just unplug the supply from the socket (like I do with mine) if you're worried about excessive battery drain.
-
Don't get me started on those - how do you move the car when the battery goes flat? (this is just the beginning of rants on that matter!)
-
Are they teaching her to leave the car in gear when you park it too?

I'd like to see a plastic bumper corrode because it has a mudflap attached to it!

Switching Off Atc Aircon
Ivor_E_Tower replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
...and you must have some air coming into the car, even when cold, or you will suffer CO2 poisoning (eventually...). I notice the effect of no fresh air if I accidentally leave heater settings on "recirculation" for too long. The ATC is sufficiently clever that it automatically switches recirc off after a set period of time (about 10 minutes IIRC). The ATC system will not "drown" you with cold air from the face vents when the outside air is cold. It directs it upwards to the screen and side windows until there is sufficient heat coming through, whereupon it then opens the flow to the vents. It is a very clever system. -
Who took their test in a Galaxy?
-
I would also suspect that if they are the "genuine" ones, they have not been fitted correctly, or else you have a suspension problem! Should be loads of space between the road and the bottom of the flaps.

I'm interested in this bit: "I have a Galaxy 2.4 ghia x" Brake servo seal almost always requires servo to come out. How much is a new servo? - and fitting? Time for some nice kind person to take photos and post them here to show how it's done?............. Rather you than me; sorry to hear of this problem.

Agreed. Italiastar - I have the same issue with warranty as mine is now just outside of the 3-year cover. It';s a question of luck, I suppose. You may have a "good-un" and end up paying over the odds for full dealer servicing. If you have a problematic example, you will probably know by now, and will be able to make a considered judgement on the need to pay for extra cover. You could also consider, for example, Warranty Direct or equivalent who may not require you to have main dealers perform the servicing. You then have to balance the cost of all thois "peace of mind" with any excess payable under a policy, and the cost of anything that does go wrong. So far I haven't bought any extra cover (but I do have my fingers crossed that the aircon doesn't pack up again - I intend to have it recharged or refilled every 2 years).

Brake fluid change is soooo easy compared to a Zafira - visit your local Vauxhall dealer and be amazed at just how close to the overhanging bulkhead the filler cap is! Oh, and Galaxy is brilliantly designed - just how VW and Ford managed to squeeze everything under the short bonnet is a near miracle. It's just not designed to be maintained! But this is the price you pay for having such a large percentage of the car available for the cabin.

Heated Front Screen Problem........
Ivor_E_Tower replied to NikNak's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I also seem to remember that it's only the pre-facelifted cars where the front screen will not work if the rear screen is switched on. Post 2000 models should manage to work both at the same time. Also - there does seem to be a little delay before the front screen heats up - remember it is quite a large piece of glass. The frost doesn't seem to vanish or "fall" down the screen that quickly too, so have you tried the wipers after a couple of minutes to check if the frost has actually melted? Rather than use a thermocouple, a simple voltage check on the positive leads as described above by MrT may be better. -
Backlight On Digital Clock
Ivor_E_Tower replied to pftc's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Pretty sure that we've covered this one before. Bulb can be replaced in isolation. Try a search - sorry no time to look for you this evening as I'm going out soon. -
...and just how much force do you have to use to get the cover to slide open? No bulbs gone, but I thought I'd try mine when I got it, and couldn't shift the things (both sides tried) without fear of breaking them!

20,000 Mile 24 Month Service
Ivor_E_Tower replied to grifjl's topic in Dealer Service and Reliability (Galaxy)
It shouldn't invalidate the warranty. Interesting about brake fluid - most manufacturers will state that it should be changed after 2 years but I've never known any garage do it as part of the service - or to do it unless asked. Last year I had the fluid in my Scenic changed by Nationwide when they did the main service - peace of mind. We've also covered rear pad wear on this forum before, with no rea satisfactory answer as to why they need changing so frequently - sometimes before the fronts! -

Central Locking & Interior Light ?
Ivor_E_Tower replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
They only look great and ugly on that wide-angled photo. In real life, they are comparatively small and discrete. Multimedia system is illustrated, presumably, on a non-UK spec car - alarm system is not standard in all countries (even on the Ghia trim level). -
Dave - if you don't want all the wheels themselves, I'm after at least a couple to replace the worst ones scuffed by the first owner of my Gal. Any interest?

No experience of the Galaxy, but I used to have a Rover 820 with a thermostat housing I had to change. This also had 2 sensors, one for engine management and one for temp gauge. Their ranges/outputs were different, and both sensors hadto be fitted (I changed both with the housing). I strongly suspect that the Galaxy is the same, and that there may be 2 or more thermostat housings. I would suggest that you need to re-visit the Parts counter and make sure that you get the correct one for your engine - when I had my Rover, I used to ensure that I always had a piece of paper in my wallet with the chassis (VIN) number and engine number on it!
