  1. Try searching for posts by Jakey247. He was the acknowledged expert on connecting video signals etc to the satnav system. Haven't seen anything from him recently though.
  2. Dave G - IYour reference to Fairy Liquid reminds me - I once read about someone who changed his brake fluid and replaced it with washing-up liquid because it "looked like the stuff I drained out".
  3. What was the result of the compression check, and what state were the plugs in? Suspect that a VW dealer will be in a better position to give advice due to lack of cambelt and other comments already posted. An independent specialist would probably be cheaper, if you can find one who knows the VR6 engine. How do you know it was running on 3 cylinders anyway? Was it just "rough"?
  4. Shazza - parking sensors should be disabled automatically when trailer electrics are connected, and need dealer reprogramming to take account of towbar when not towing. Next topic: Auto transmission is supposed to be better for towing. Smoother gearchanges, no extra load/strain on the manual transmission's clutch if you have auto etc. Discuss.......
  5. SA I - does the Alhambra really come with women who think that the door bins aren't litter bins? If so, I want one!
  6. I very much doubt that it's sealed for life. After it's been fitted to the engine on the production line, it has to be filled somehow.
  7. I suspect "soft" as in "doesn't come to a sudden hard, full-stop", much like mine. (I'm also depressed!).
  8. Keep checking the brake fluid level - that will tell if you have a leak. Otherwise suspect that it's just normal.
  9. Have you checked the transmission fluid levels, both when hot and cold?
  10. Galaxy TDI but prior to this, and now the wife's car: Renault Scenic DTi
  11. How did the dealer decide that you need a new turbo? I mean to need a new turbo itself, then there must be vane or bearing failure (or a problem with the casing which would be most unusual). If it's wastegate-related, then you'll just need the appropriate bits and not a turbo. Seems odd diagnosis.
  12. But it depends on the staff and attitude at your local dealer. Gave mine 4 months to find a used facelifted TDI SE under
  13. Oh well, many postings in a few seconds... If Volvo invented it, why don't they fit it to their cars, especially as it is a safety feature and Volvo are noted for safety. ...and if Volvo invented it, but Ford are using it (and were using it before they bought Volvo) why is nobody else using it? Anyone know?
  14. I think the heated screen issue is because of a royalty fee that would need to be paid by other manufacturers as it's basically a Ford invention. The Gal is my first car with such a device and it is really useful when there is snow or ice about. Although mine stays under cover at night, it got snowed on outside Tescos this evening but it only took a few minutes to make it driveable again. And I did have to use the icescraper to remove the large width of snow that got swept up to the A-pillars!
  15. Is it still freezing there? If so, ? Failure means the car is not roadworthy so call the garage and let them tow it in!
  16. On the "scuttle" panel between the bonnet and the screen, as part of the black plastic trim to the air intake for the heater. The jets are supposed to be heated too but as we didn't even have a frost this morning I can't check if this is true!
  17. You can't fill with pump at max flow - you need to pull carefully on the pump delivery handle until about 3/4 of its travel. The shape of the filler tube on the Gal stops the fuel going in too fast. Try the truck pumps, like I do! Same problem but manage to fill up quicker with faster flow rate (larger diameter nozzle).
  18. Have you tried looking at the boxes of electronics under the front (passsenger) seat? Check for damp (or lack of it), and that all connectors are properly secured.
  19. How often are you filling up? Surely it can't be that bad.
  20. ...but no ejector seat as yet.... (or are you working on that one, too?)
  21. See my earlier posting somewhere else ref Castrol's tech helpline. 506.01 should not be used in early 115ps engines. There is a cut-off point after which it is safe to use it (due to engineering changes within the engine) but it's a waste to do so! 506.01 is only for increased drain intervals; 505.01 is perfectly adequate for the 115ps engine, and can be used on the latest engines calling for 506.01 IF YOU STICK to fixed changed intervals of max 1 year or 10,000 miles.
  22. "Fell off the back of a lorry"???
  23. Ouch! Not that Halfords are noted for being cheap mind you, but to be undercut by VW main dealer spares prices, well......
  24. Think you'll find that the PD TDI 150 engine is available in some european countries. From reading comparative tests on the VW Golf, Turbo is right, that engine is criticised for not having as smooth a power delivery as the 130 or 115. I seem to remember reading that it is also harsher - less refined, more vibration but this could be down to the installation. Now a 2.5 V6 turbodiesel, or even the V10 from the Toureg...........
  25. This is why the handbook says leave it to the dealer! Not sure of the best way to remove the trim, have been looking for special "pry" tools for such a purpose but not found any yet. Wooden kitchen spoons plus a saw and file, perhaps?
