  1. (1) Yes but only for a few days, (2) Don't attempt to clean it, you will need to buy a replacement
  2. You can also try Ford's extended warranty helpline who should be able to confirm that the handles are covered by 3-years not just one year of the warranty: 01277 253 683. HTH Ivor
  3. The problem is because the vehicle is older than 12 months - some dealers don't think that trim items are covered for the full 3 years. If necessary give the Ford Customer Assistance centre a ring. I don't have the number to hand (it's on my desk at work) so if you can't find it using the "search" facility, I'll try to post it tomorrow morning.
  4. Surely the oil level warning can only properly function when the vehicle is at rest without the engine running, and this is a "glitch"? Usually the automatic oil level warning systems work when you turn the ignition key to start up - when the engine is running, most of the oil is circulating and naturally the level in the sump will be lower than when the engine has been at rest for a couple of hours or more - this is the reason why slightly over-filling (as indicated by the dipstick) is not a problem.
  5. Definitely worth cleaning these bits out. Don't worry about taking lo-res pictures, just use a photo editing package or even MS-Paint and save them as JPEG's. The photos I've uploaded to this site have all been taken on a 3.1Mpixel camera running at near its max resolution, running at about 800kb per photo, then reduced to approx 30% size and JPEG'd to medium "quality". They come out at about 30kB, easily small enough to upload.
  6. Bin the 2007 and fit a Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB radio, the "52" for around
  7. When I wanted the touch-up stick for my Galaxy, I went to the Ford dealer's parts counter. They entered the vehicle reg number into the computer and could tell from that the correct colour for the touch-up. The Ford touch-up stick was also cheaper than the Halfords equivalent.
  8. Starter turning but engine not firing suggests to me that it could well be an immobiliser problem. Trouble is, this could be a shorted/broken wire somewhere, or dry/broken solder joint on an ECU pcb, or........
  9. Strange - there were 2 types of nets on sale in my local Halfords and they weren't in the clearance section, just the normal travel accessories bit near the roof racks, roof bars, dog guards etc. Coming next will be my home-made luggage cover, using Halford's grey travel rug, closest colour I could get to my Gal's grey interior, plus a few lengths of wood I had lying around, some bolts/washers/nuts that I also had, some self-adhesive velcro (also from my collection of miscellaneous potentially useful bits) and an expanding metal net-curtain rail. Total cost under
  10. No, but coming soon in the "customising" section will be some photos of my home-made luggage cover. It consists of a nice grey travel rug from Halfords (which almost matches the grey interior of my Gal - I couldn't find anything suitable in black), some lengths of wood, bolts/nuts/washers, velcro and an expanding net curtain track. It fits over the rearmost seats when they are folded forward.
  11. Take it to a track day - I'm sure it's quite safe to drive at 135mph if you can find a long-enough, deserted straight!
  12. Not quite but similar. And it's also when listening to Radio 4, strangely... I've had the sort of 1 second switch to a local station (sounds like BBC) when venturing south down the M3 or A3 towards the coast. Could be a BBC glitch in the R4 RDS information perhaps??? It's happened to the standard-fit Philips radio-cassette in my Renault Scenic too, so it's not just a Ford radio thing.
  13. ...or see the other thread where I've shown my Siemens one mounted to a blank switch. The blanks cost only a couple of quid so dead easy to replace when you sell the car.
  14. The cooling fans run when the air con is on as part of the way that the aircon system works.
  15. It will be pipework to rear heater. Check for a split in the hose, clip that has become loose or other simple fault. If it's coming from somewhere else then it could prove costly, but I suspect that it will be a quick, cheap fix. Do it soon before it becomes worse.
  16. ..and my TDI 115 has one fitted (built Oct 2000, first reg Jan 2001).
  17. There will be an under-bonnet sticker with the info on it, usually R134 (?) and a quantity in grams of gas. Lube oil for the compressor is also added.
  18. Daddycool - you need special tools to drill out and re-tap. If you're not set up to do this, and don't know someone who is, then it would be far safer to get your local garage to sort this out. Personally I would NOT drive the car until it is fixed (maybe risk driving it very gently to the garage to get the work done, but certainly don't use it on a day-to-day basis until it's sorted). Engines can move arouond a lot, and you never know what else will get stressed and/or broken by the movement.
  19. ...and keeping the insurance company in profit too, no doubt ;)
  20. Don't hold me to this, but from what I've read, the Mk1 mirrors are the same for Ford, Seat and VW whereas Mk2 Seat and VW are the same (but different from Mk1) but Ford is different. I don't know of Ford Mk1 is same as Ford Mk2. Anyone working in a Ford Parts Dept able to provide the definitive answer?
  21. Diesels seem to fetch more whether from Ford Direct, Ford dealers or independent traders. V6's may start off with a much higher list price, but after a few months, they tend to be priced less than the diesels, and the 2.3 petrols are even cheaper. Ford direct stuff sometimes has very low mileage - many have been effectively pre-registered by Ford and have sat on a disused airfield in Cambridgeshire for some months..... Others have been Ford management cars and have perhaps 17,000 miles on the clock. Because they are Ford-owned, they tend to be less than 2 years old. Following the recent facelift, Ford seem to have released quite a number of pre-facelifted used Galaxys into the Ford Direct system.....
  22. So fast that it vapourised? (Or is the link missing???)
  23. It might be a coffee mug loose inside the door, from the workforce at the factory.
  24. Ford Direct stuff tends to be only 18 months old at max, mostly well under a year old so they will be outside your budget. Try www.mpvs.co.uk or www.galaxyworld.co.uk (or is that one a ".com"?)
