  1. What you have to watch for is spurious signals (arcing etc) when connecting and disconnecting plugs on the loom etc. When correctly installed, chances of accidentally firing the airbag are very small due to the safing sensor signals (and other signals from other transducers) that the computer requires to confirm that an "accident situation" has occured.
  2. Yes - Lex/Nationwide in Camberley
  3. I think that if you drop a vehicle off at a garage asking for an MOT, and they are not a test station, they have to declare this and advise you that they will be "subcontracting" the work out. I dropped my Gal off for MOT on 8 Jan; cycled home only to be greeted almost at once by a phonecall to say it was done - they had had a cancellation or two, and done mine next. Cycled back, collected it and paid under
  4. I'll hazard a guess that the fan is run off a different sensor to the one that drives the temperature gauge, and that your thermostat needs changing. Hope it's nothing more serious, like duff water pump or worse.....
  5. Try disconnecting it and re-connecting it again - check the connector pins are not corroded etc.
  6. ...a good reason for ensuring that your oldest jacket/anorak (the one you really want to throw out) is consigned to duty in the back of the car. Trouble is, with the toolbox, folding bike, collapsible shopping trolley etc, there's hardly any room left for luggage !
  7. 2000 and 2001 were not good years for new batteries! Several of us have had to change our original ones before 3 years were up. I'm well unimpressed. The original battery in my 1985 Honda lasted for about 7 years. So much for progress.
  8. Well, you've been lucky. Mine was definitely not a "scrape with scalpel" but a "rebuild with new hardware" job !
  9. Yes as said, 2 litres of petrol in 62 of diesel should cause you absolutely no problems at all. ..but use it all up and re-fill with diesel ASAP, just to make sure ;)
  10. Check fuel filter isn't blocked and that there isn't water in the fuel (drain tap under bonnet).
  11. I take it that you have checked the oil level.....and that the oil was changed at the last service?
  12. ..or the pollen filter isn't located properly and is allowing water in via the air intake under the bonnet; this has been covered before. If the source of the leak is found, then the interior can be dried successfully so long as sufficient care is taken (which kind of rules out the dealer doing it !)
  13. Did it rain overnight? How could the water have got inside? - where did it come from?
  14. If it appears under load and goes when you depress the clutch pedal then it won't be the shocks. Check the CV joints for split boots in the first instance - what mileage? and when did the vibration start?
  15. Does it work OK now that the bulbs have been changed? If it does, I would stop worrying for a while !
  16. I had this with mine - a plastic bit shears off and its the part against which one of the springs presses. Take the whole central cubbyhole out - IIRC 4 torx screws to undo. Drill hole through the offending corner at the rear of the cubbyhole (on mine, the bit that broke off also took out a hole in the corner so I didn't have to drill!) Fix a long-ish bolt through here, head inside the cubbyhole. Fit from the outside washers of increasing size so that they can take the load of the spring pushing against them. Secure with 2 nuts, one locked to the other so they do not come free under vibration. Re-fit cubby unit complete to the dash. If you want, you can the paint the bolt head black to match the interior of the cubbyhole. As I had a selection of spare bolts in the house, my repair cost me nothing. If necessary, you will need to go to the nearest large B&Q Eec to buy appropriate fixings.
  17. Steady on, guys! No fighting now..... I hope that Ford aren't fitting Lucas alternators to the Galaxy.
  18. Could be a dodgy connection or soldered joint on the clocks PCB ? How handy are you (or your auto-electrician) at taking it out, dismantling it and inspecting it ?
  19. Yes, the panel it sits on just prises out.....and it doesn't go "tick tock" - once a minute, the minute hand moves to advance by one minute! An electronic miracle....
  20. Excellent! Good luck and I hope you enjoy it when you pick it up.
  21. Just check that the cambelt change has been done - if not, get it worked in as part of the deal.
  22. Most of us have had problems with uploading pictures since the "temporary" move to an interim server; the Citroen cars site is still down after a few months. I suspect Kevin is having a few problems......
  23. Faulty temperature sensor? Dunno thought - for a diesel I would have thought that there would be little difference in the amount of fuel needed to start a hot or a cold engine.
  24. If the car was bought in UK but exported directly to Germany, then re-imported, DVLA will only record it as being registered from when it was re-imported. HPI will also probably know no better, hence the muddle. I seem to remember some confusion with my parents ' car's paperwork, but they have now traded it in for a new V70 so cannot check to see what it said.
  25. Hi Iain - did you escape the flooding around Carlisle a couple of weeks ago?
