  1. Hi Steve, I have exactly the same problem and was about to tackle it soon. I was going to look at swapping the passenger and drivers door locks over as I never use the passenger side to unlock the car. I don't know if this is possible but sure will save some dosh if it is. Let me know how you get on getting the lock off if you do it first. Greg.
  2. Crikey the class has now moved onto automobile fuel efficiency. Seatkid do you by any chance have a large kipper tie and a brown cardigan, I am sure this sort off stuff used to be on BBC2 in the very early mornings. ;) Now all you get on late night telly is soft porn instead. If you could kindly let me know the roster for next weeks classes I will do some swatting up at the weekend but still do my homework on the bus on Monday morning. On a more serious note if anyone would like to enlighten me on the major components of a vehicle aircon system and what each bit does I would be most grateful as I haven't got much of a clue how aircon actually works. There! some homework for you. Please no copying or cheating.
  3. Blimey I've stumbled upon an open university course on vehicle aerodynamics. :o When it says technical section I didn't think it was literally that.
  4. Steve, how did you get the bulb assembly off, I have tried unsuccesfully but it doesn't want to come off. Do you have to unclip anything? Cheers, Greg.
  5. Hi all, I'm having problems getting the assembly that houses the gear selector bulb off, does anyone have any more tips on how to get the complete plastic holder away from the gear lever. Others states it just pulls up but mine don't. Cheers, Greg.
  6. Hi all, before I have a bash and start dismantlin things, does anyone have experience / tips on getting to the gear selected illumination on an auto. thanks, Greg.
  7. Agree with the above replies, I had the same issue a couple of years ago you should have seen the shape of the tyre off the car. :D
  8. How did the guy get them off the monkey. Did he live in the Knowsley area.
  9. I was there last week and the Shalaxies they have in are in a right state. :( You need to be careful as they promised me a part was on site, drove from Brum. guess what, they hadn't got one, 2 hours wasted. The next guy in the queue had come from Leeds on a promise of a part for his Alfa only to find they hadn't got that after all either. So be careful with there promises if travelling a fair way. It sure is depressing to see so many good spare parts going to waste usually because of the lack of cover from the elements. All the seats trim etc ruined on most of them. Most are full of bits from other vehicles. I guess that they never make much profit from interior trim as all scrap yards let the cars inners rot. I was at another yard last week asked the guy in charge if they had any Mk1 Galaxies he said he had one had a burnt out one, had a look round they had 6 altogether again all full of water and in a sorry state. Is it just me? but I feel you could make some money out of breaking them properly, storing them and getting a name for any Galaxy/Sharan readily available spares off the shelf in good nick. I would be interested in anyones opinion. Cheers, Greg.
  10. Hi all, I had my MAF changed two weeks ago and thought my mpg had improved, went on a 100 mile round trip yesterday and got 29 mpg which i didn't think was too bad for a V6. If in the future I am tempted to the dark side could the diesel peeps tell me what the best mpg they would be likely to see on a 100 mile trip on the motorway. Cheers, Greg. p.s would have an LPG but I only go to work and back (6 miles).
  11. Maybe of interest to note that the boffins at work state that within a year there is to be an EU directive that all countries have daytime running lights on new cars.
  12. 1. Greg. 2. Birmingham 3. N reg 2.8 Ghia 4. 5 years 5. Love to but am too scared. 6.
  13. Because I am nosey and always wonder who is who and don't really know anyone on here I wondered if anyone would mind returning a few details about themselves. Fully understand if you do not want to. I just thought it maybe useful if ever stuck, you never know who lives in the area. 1. Real name 2. Location. 3. Type of car. 4. How long have you had a Galaxy / Sharan / Alhambra. 5. Would you have another. 6. How much do you think you/warranty have spent on repairs. 7. Occupation. Guess I will start it off, thanks if you reply, understand if you don't.
  14. Ouch!!!! :o That was a bad introduction to the "wonderful world" of Galaxyship. I thought I had some bad luck but at least mine have been over the last 5 years. I am utterly amazed at the amount of things that go wrong with Galaxys. For a
  15. Hi all, I do not have a remote key even though I believe my Galaxy (mark 1) has the gubbins to have one. I am thinking of getting a remote, possibly secondhand and reprogramming it to my car. Do I have to get a Ford, a VW or even a SEAT one. Does anyone have any advice. Cheers, Greg.
  16. My only words of advice would be to check everything and I mean everything works, all electric windows, central locking, cruise control, switches, certainly everything electrical. Tyres around
  17. Hi, don't know whether you are intersted but there are a couple of towbars on ebay plus a wiring assembly (VW I think).
  18. Hi all, regarding remote locking. I never even thought that my galaxy may have remote locking as it only came (secondhand) with a normal black and red key. I have the gizmo's in the headlining so have I the remote locking facility on it? How easy / expensive / possible is it to have a remote key made for the car. What would be my best bet? Thanks, Greg.
  19. Hi, this could be signs of an interupted fuel supply to the heater. This can be caused by leaks in pipes, air being sucked into the fuel, if they have there own fuel pump this maybe failing. It is likely that you do not see it when the engine is hot because I believe the aux heater cuts out when the water temp reaches a certain point, this being enough to supply the heat needed.
  20. I just about got the wiper motor off before darkness, I could not unclip the wiring part (not the module one), is there a trick to it? :o How easy is the module to get off, I could not see what is holding it in place and I would like to get that off tomorrow if possible after seeing posts about wet/damp modules being at fault. There is a good German car spares place nearby, is it likely that the Sharan wiper motor is the same? Thanks for everyone's help. Greg.
  21. Thanks again for the reply, I shall check the motor output shaft tonight. I may take the link off altogether and see if the motor is running with nothing connected. Assuming it is electrical, is there anything I can check before sending it out for repair. When in intermittent mode I cannot hear the relay switching, should I be able to do so? Would it be worth buying a relay just to check? How much can I expect to pay for a new wiper motor fitted at Ford. :D Thanks Greg.
  22. Hi, thanks for the replies. When you say seized spindle do you mean the motor spindle or the actual wiper arm spindle? either way are these likely to be seized if the wipers move by hand freely when they are switched on. Helping them gets no response. When I move them by hand the motor spindle is turning and the linkages move so I assume it is clamped tight on to that shaft. I will try the previous solutions of oiling the spindles (I assume it means the wiper arm spindles) tomorrow although as I said they move fairly well by hand and i can see them turning. If you could post instructions on how you did it topbloke I would be most grateful I have my suspicions it is electrical, I just find it strange the way they jump a little each time the ignition is turned on if the stalk is in the wipe position. Any other ideas welcome, very welcome. Greg.
  23. Hi all. Please could you give me some guidance on trying to fix my wipers before I spend money getting someone else to do so. The wipers have stopped working altogether, have checked the fuse. When the wiper switch is activated and the ignition is turned on the wipers jump about half an inch, every time the ignition is switched off and on they jump further up the screen. When the ignition is on and the wiper switch activated it is possible to move the wipers by hand, all the linkages move freely and the output spindle on the wiper gearbox also turns suggesting everything is ok mechanically. Has anyone got any advice on the next thing to look at as I have run out of ideas now. TIA. Greg.
  24. p.s a quick update. When the wipers are on the fast setting every time you turn the ignition on and off the wipers move about half an inch further up the screen. Now thats weird. Hope you can help, Greg.
  25. Hi everyone, Two new faults to fix this week. Front windscreen wipers have stopped working altogether(trying to clear the smallest amount of snow off! I think I will clean by hand next time). Checked the fuse :looks ok Wipers move by hand fairly easily. I have read some posts about the spindles seizing (they wouldn't move by hand if they were seized? would they). Could it be the relay in the fuse box? Should you be able to hear the relay clicking away when in intermittent mode if it is a mechanical fault? I cannot hear it working. Problem number 2: The lock on the drivers door is just turning round and not locking or unlocking, I am having to use other doors to unlock the car. Do you have any advice on wether it is easy to fix and how. I have had the door casing off and cannot see much. All help greatly appreciated. Greg.
