  1. Thanks for the replies, I was however trying to see new inventions you would like to see on a new Galaxy not just a list of things that need improving on the current one. Items like sliding doors fluid level indicators internet connections etc keep em coming anyway.
  2. I bet it doesn't for the first mile or so like the OP said his wife is currently doing. My trip for the first mile coming out of work into traffic uphill etc reads approx 5mpg. 14mpg for the first 2 mile isn't that unusual.
  3. If you don't mind me asking is anyone willing to disclose how much they paid for their conversion. Cheers.
  4. See the link below, or you can put cruise control into the search button at the top of the page. Select all forums and any date. http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...=cruise+control
  5. With the new posts and images of the new Galaxy it got me wondering what new gizzmos and gadgets you would like to have if you were to buy one. Preferably sensible suggestions but whatever. I am not a gadget person and would prefer to have a car that has little extras as long as everything worked for as long as I owned the car.....wishful thinking I know. Can you guys think of new ideas you would love to have. Knowing your sense of humour and p**s taking ability I know there will be a few weird and wonderful suggestions.
  6. Do you know the worst thing about the fuel prices...... the tdi brigade going on about theirs having 2 weeks worth of fuel left........   Jammy buggers.
  7. I think you will find most manufacturers rolling road tests are in the region of equivalent to 5 miles. There is a limit to how many miles a new car can have on the clock and still be classed as new when first sold, I think it is about 80 miles. Above this the DOT see it as a used car.
  8. Just my 2 peneth, My mates 05 tdi played dvd-r (I think) and dvd-rw whilst on holiday. Kids absolutely loved it and don't understand why daddies car cannot have one just the same. Would not play region 1 discs though.
  9. Sorry but I do not agree, if you need to make sure you have enough fuel to make sure you get tot work and back until the end of the week then I would go and get some now. Once the ball starts rolling there will be none left by the end of the week. I had a bit of good news yesterday whilst sitting in the queue for fuel it actually went down 2p a litre, woohoo.
  10. Hi, has anyone been down the scrapyard route, I would have thought you could have picked up the rear 5 windows for less than
  11. Hi, mine jammed so I got one of the old type coat hangers (all steel) and hooked the cable. Operate the motor up and down and you may find it will feed out enough for you to get it back over the white plastic wheel at the top of the door. There is a little tag covering the top of the wheel that you may have to bend back to get the cable back on to the wheel. Look down the window slot and you can see it, I think it is easier to see if you remove the outer glass seal as well, they only push on. HTH.
  12. They may not always be the cheapest but not everyone has the good fortune :o :o :( to live within driving distance of a dealer. I would imagine there are places in the UK 50 miles away from a dealer so
  13. Lingsim, they are
  14. Hi all, I would be interested to know just how easy it is to take a look at the instrument panel connections on a mark 1. My digital readout panel illumination flickers on and off whilst driving, but this only happens with the headlights off. It is ok when you put the headlights on they light up and stay lit ok. There are obviously 3 levels of illumination. None illuminated, normal use and when the headlights are activated. The panels are very hard to read when there is no illumination at all. Thanks for any advice.
  15. Hi, Before I start dismantling things, has anyone had any experience of the electric front windows being really slow and eventualy stopping about half way down. Any advice or suggestions gratefully received.
  16. Woohoo the girls coming back to life. :D Exchanged my broken drivers door lock and replaced all speaker grilles in under 30 minutes. Contrary to belief (and the TIS) if it just the actuator on the key tumbler that is broken (the usual suspect) you do not have to take the door card off, you just need a bit of jiggery pokery. ;) Cuz I am broke and don't see the need I just swapped the two front door handles over as I never unlock the car from that side anyway. The speaker grilles were a five minute job, I didn't glue them in, you can just bend all the tabs on the new speaker back a bit and they hold really well. Took some photo's (to do my bit for the board) so if anyone needs any help I will e-mail them to you. Now whats next to do
  17. Is that for definite as I might be interested in them myself.
  18. Hi, what do scrapyards do when they take the engine out? would you get one from there? I agree you definitely need one, as someone else stated Ford wouldn't fit it if it wasn't needed. I would take a visit to the local scrappy.
  19. I did read a report once that stated there is as much extra fuel used driving with your windows down as is used having the aircon on. This is an argument that will run and run with no definitive answer. Unless you could drive exactly the same route under exactly the same conditions with and without the aircon on there is no real way of knowing. My point of view is who cares! for the extra 10% fuel I am supposedly going to use I would rather be cool than save money and be hot and uncomfortable.
  20. My aircon smelt of curry a while back. Strangely enough it was only when the heater was on and went away if I set the temp on low say 18 degrees. I changed the pollen filter and the smell seems to have gone away. A side effect is I don't feel hungry when I am driving now either.
  21. Sort of agree Seatkid but it is nice to see what I shall never have. Rather than blatantly selling an item it would be nice to see the photo's and just insert a weblink as Seatkid said. I for one don't want you to stop showing the improvements that can be made to a fairly untrendy car.
  22. That avatar brings a whole new meaning to may the force be with you :o Steve is that your bedroom attire. :o
  23. Charles, could you pick me six numbers between say 1 and 49. No reason just thought I'd ask. Las Vegas here I come........at last. Greg.
  24. Why is it that people always supply this info a week after you have purchased one. :(
  25. Dad, whats that funny smell. Well it had been nearly 6 weeks since the last breakdown so I can't complain. (I have to laugh otherwise I'd torch the thing.) Looking in the rearview mirror smoke trailing from the car and burning rubber smell. After a little investigation realised it was an auxiliary belt problem. Limped the car home, did the search, as usual you guys hit the nail on the head. Thanks. Auxiliary belt tensioner seized. Well a bit more than seized....mostly none exsistent. the plastic bit anyway. I thought I'd do my bit for the group and took some photo's whilst fitting the replacement, so if anyone needs details on how to change the auxiliary belt or the tensioner I can either send them privately or post them on here. Belt change would take about 30 mins I reckon. I think it would be a good idea to have a dedicated repair section on the forum to show repair/replacement solutions rather than them getting lost in all the other sections. thanks again to all those with the knowledge to help us mere mortals out. Greg.
