think your find yours is a mk 1,iirc the mk2 came out in latter part of 2000 first thing id check is to make sure you havnt lost the transponder chip out of the key,then check for any broken wires in the door, check out faqs

i used to be a member of the rac,i joined them when i was having a rare holiday in cornwall and was told that to get relay i would have to wait a few days b4 i could take advantage of it,think this was to stop peeps taking the p... and get towed back to where you came from f.o.c,a friend of mine was coming back from alton towers with his family on board and his cam chain snapped(rover sdi)he didnt have any cover but managed to get a free tow off the motorway to the nearest services,he asked how much to be towed home and the reply was 180 quid,i went up there the next day with the missus and got him relayed home because the missus was also a member of the rac and the same chap turned up to do it
