I think you mean sarcastic...... I'm quick enough to pick that up, but it's useful to point that out to our slower members... :P

I would have thought that technologies behind LPG and diesel are basically incompatible. Diesel relies on a (vast) oversupply* of air which ignites the fuel when its temperature is raised by compression. LPG powered engines on the other hand use spark ignition principles, as the gas/air mixture will only burn over a limited range of fuel/air ratios. So basically LPG would never ignite in a diesel engine unless you've got a vast amount of LPG going in, and without a throttle plate, the engine would just run away and break. (Unless you managed to inject LPG in a way to get a highly stratified charge, which would be beyond any LPG convertors capability.) I also belive that LPG burns so slowly that, in a high speed engine, it has to be ignited many tens of degrees before TDC, so using diesel to ignite it would be too little, too late, you'd need a spark plug! *This overlooked aspect of diesel engines is making me feel somewhat anti-diesel of late.

:( Crickey! I can't take this much longer.... :( The TIS has COMPLETE WIRING INFO even though its a little cryptic. For your engine*, the 12V feed for the clutch comes from the Wide Open Throttle (WOT) Relay (K32 or K107), its job is to temporarily switch off the A/C when full throttle is demanded. This relay may be faulty or its control feed is your car manual or auto? *What is its exact build date?

Air Con And Timing Chain Probs
seatkid replied to jvernon's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
no....it is a chain.....2 chains actually..... The upper chain is hydraulically tensioned, problems with tension and tappets (also hydraulic) point to a blocked oilway (or a plug dropped out) or faulty oil pump/pressure relief or even a blocked oil filter. The lower chain tensioner is mechanical, and probably works on the old ratchet principle, so yes the slap will disappear when is slips onto the next rachet. -

Any comments as to whether diesel will become more expensive relative to petrol? I recently noticed my local Sainsbury's seemed to suffer shortages of diesel. An increasing proportion of new cars are diesel and my schoolday recollection of the refinery process leads me to think that its easier to make more petrol rather than more diesel.

Not heard from Hijacker in a while - do you think he's stuck in deepest darkest Brighton with a melted engine? -
hmm....making a note of this..... "maybe consider change original wipers at 100,000 miles/10 yr service.....if I can afford to buy any diesel that is...."

Crankshaft position sensor? -
<_< !! I have had loads of problems with passengers letting go of their belts and the buckle flying off and cracking the window of the door with such a force I thought it would crack. Your experience warrants a complaint to VAG as a safety issue.

Tdi Very Difficult To Start
seatkid replied to dulux72's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
No, not glow plugs as hot starts would be no problem. Very likely a fuel priming problem. In addition to air leaks, if the filter hasnt been changed in a long while, try draining it as it may be full of water. Could also be a camshaft or crankshaft sensor problem. -
Vag Maf Defects

:) :( :) -_- Miffed MAFS give no soot......(and no power) Direct your anger at Bosch. Hot wire anemometry has always been a crap technology. When I worked for ICL in the 70's the hot wire air flow sensors in 2900 series mainframes fell over before they even left the factory....what's he on about??.. has Seatkid finally flipped?:( Bigjeez - has that old working one got a diecast body? and whats the 0-60 time? It may not be as healthy as you think.... -
The original engine no is printed on a large sticker in the rh compartment of the boot. It starts with the letters ANU, AUY or ASZ AFAIK The actual engine no is on the front of the block, below cylinder head, near bell housing mutter..mutter.....
