Do they mean people who don't know what they are talking about most of the time, or people who hate people who think they know what they are talking about most of the time but actually do not, or people who know what they are talking about most of the time but think they do not?

1000 miles or 1 month over is the official VAG line. But dealers can be a little bit more flexible depending on their mood.
-
Its probably a connector/wiring fault. As you just bought it, you should check whether its covered by warranty.
-
This wasnt a turbo fault! You had a vacuum pipe or boost control solenoid fault! The fact that the fault was logged as an overboost and then went into limp mode verifies that the turbo operation was perfectly OK and the fault was in the boost control. Its possible you blew the recon units with overboost. Did you check the vacuum piping? And was it connected 100% right when you put it back? When installing a new turbo it is sensible to put a boost gauge on and check the boost is correct over a range of revs before you give it any welly. I'm 99% certain your turbo was alright. Have you still got the original unit?

Anoying Knocking Noise From Front

At least you know that our forum members will now all steer clear of speedways turbos! You could report them to your local trading standards officer, after all they have a "12 month guarantee" How can you machine a used turbo casing and it still conforms to the original specification in every way? I personally don't see how you can recon a turbo, once their gone, surely nothing is salvagable. Do you still have the original turbo unit? What was the original fault/symptom that made you think the turbo had gone in the first place? My recomendation to everyone is use new OEM parts or accept the consequence. New OEM parts are available from several suppliers outside the manufacturer/dealer network and are often not much more expensive than aftermarket or recon units.

Reluctant Starter On Mk1 Tdi.

Change the glowplugs - see here and here for further info. -
:P Do you think you would fool anyone? You would be clearly breaking the law by deliberately disguising the fault and could cost you dearly.

Real Life Mpg... On 2.8v6 Petrol Auto...
seatkid replied to zman's topic in Questions about the Ford Galaxy
This whole subject of VR6 vs TDi has been done to death! http://www.briskoda.net/forums/images/smilies/orb/bonk.gif What will be interesting are future engines and their performance. I believe the VAG 2.0Tdi is now available in the Alhambra. Anyone got real life experience of this unit? More interesting to me is whether the 1.4TFSi (170bhp) will live up to the hype and who knows, maybe be a future power unit? As for Ford Galaxies, they start shipping their own breed this year, I wonder if the old Forum requires a makeover to accomodate this. -

I get about 52mpg from my petrol Fabia, its only got 3 cylinders so half as much for a VR6 sounds about right.... -

And of course there is the tiny problem of the 7 litre lump of ice in your washer bottle and frozen solid water pump....... the solution may be closer to hand for VR6 though here's a clue........http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41185000/jpg/_41185896_gasring203.jpg ;) :) ;) :)

New Timing Belt Replacement Time
seatkid replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
All TDI/PD fitted with automatic gbx are 40,000 miles. Anyone notice the kerfuffle over on HJ's forum? One thread has HJ touting a rumour that VAG has decreed that all cambelts must be changed at 40,000 miles/4years. Another thread says that VW now say that cambelt changes on latests models (~2005 on) now no longer require their belt changing ever! It appears HJ has pulled this thread. He often pulls threads/edits other peoples posts on the grounds of "possible legal actions". Typical of HJ - complete tosh spoken most of the time but good for a larf when its spoken with so much conviction. VAG - Contitech lifetime timing belt article Before you get too excited, bear in mind that the majority of cambelt failures (IMO) are brought about by failure of another component e.g. tensioner, rollers, ancillaries etc. -
What makes them think the tuba/turbo has gone? They very rarely fail and most lack of performance problems are down to vacuum control pipes or sensors.....
