  1. Air leaking into the fuel line is the first thing that springs to mind. I had a similar problem on a new Transit, changing the fuel filter cured the problem. Regards - JB

  7. If you consider the resale value and the practicality of having a spare wheel, diesel part exchange is the only sensible thing to do. Tyreweld etc works well when your tyre has gone down, try it on the motorway when your tyre gone and then weep when you get the bill for a new tyre delivered to the hard shoulder. I do have a modern car with no spare, an MCC Smart Car BUT that comes with a guarantee from Smart that they will pick up the bill for replacement tyres in the event of a puncture, I still feel uncomfortable with the no spare situation though. On a positive note, I've just had a look under my Galaxy, I would have thougght you could get a couple of sill tanks in there quite easily without losing the spare wheel, from memory you can get ones that have a working capacity of about 70 litres so that would give you 140 litres total. Might be worth looking into (have a look on www.rpiv8.com there's loads on there about LPG and they have tanks in different shapes and sizes). Regards - JB

  9. Several point here, I havent converted a galaxy but I did convert my 4.2 Range Rover and my comments are as follows:- 1) You will be told it will enhance the resale value, trust me, it won't. People are afraid of the non standard nature of converted cars. 2) Engines definately run smoother on LPG 3) The smell from the exhaust is awful. 4) Engine oil stays very clean, in my Rangie after 10,000 miles it was still golden brown in colour. 5) LPG puts immense stress on the H.T. circuit so if your plug leads etc are not perfect they need replacing BEFORE conversion 6) Based on your figures to break even you're looking at 2.3 years assuming that you're doing 10,000 miles per year, gas at .35 per litre and petrol at .81 with an
  10. It most definately will stop working when some of the gas has leaked away, well before it's almost empty. They loose efficiency as the gas level drops because the compressor will keep switching off due to low pressure. Eventually it remains permanently in low pressure and doesn't run. There is always an amount of leakage between the shaft seals of the compressor, this is minimised by running the a/c regularly even during winter. Regards - JB

  14. Yes it's normal. The refrigerant can be in two states gas or liquid. If the compressor is running the high pressure side (liquid) will gas off to the low pressure side (gas) and making a hissing sound. Not a problem, enjoy the cool air. Regards - John
  15. Whilst I can't really comment on the 90BHp from a pulling point of view, my Gal 115 TDi tows very well indeed, second only to my 4.2 Range Rover. I tow a big Tow-A-Van that is up to the Gals max towing weight. Regards - John
  16. All of what I said is MY opinion. No matter who is at fault be it Sandicliffe OR Ford, Sandicliffe should support their customer and at the end of the day thye contact is between the customer and Sandicliffe in either event. Regards - JB
  17. Clearly we must all AVOID SANDICLIFFE FORD. if SANDICLIFFE FORD treat customers like this then SANDICLIFFE FORD dont deserve to be in business. IF SANDICLIFFE FORD want this sort of publicity, they've got it. I personally would take SANDICLIFFE FORD to court and sue them :(
  18. I don't think insulting others tastes or vehicle choice is quitre appropriate. I chose my Galaxy over all of the others because I preferred it's looks and interior. Plain and simple MY choice and whether the Galaxy looks like a focus or not is nothing to do with anyone else, I LIKE IT and thats what matters.
  19. I would write to Ford customer services and explain the situation and mention 'small claims court' and 'unfit for the purpose' that should do the trick. Legally an item has to be fit for the purpose, if the item has failed after only 4 months it could be poor manufacturing (in which case sue Ford) or poor fitting (in which case sue the garage). I would highlight the adverse publicity that theyre receiving by giving them this forum address and your message number etc. Who was the garage that did the work? Regards - John

  21. For a really good explanation have a look at the Ford Scorpio web site. There have been loads of problems with EGR systems and many owners have disconnected them completely with no major problems. In brief the EGR is used when combustion temperatures go above a preset limit. Exhaust gas is fed back into the inlet manifold which replaces some of the air, this in turn makes the mixture go rich so the fueling is reduced by the engine management system. The net result is the same as if you had reduced throttle. The horror stories of melted pistons don't seem to have happened and indeed my 24v Cosworth with it's EGR defeated was quite happy in Germany at 140mph+ for some 2.5 hours. The problems we sufferred with EGR enabled were slight hesitation at constant speeds. Regards - JB
  22. I don't tow a caravan but I do tow a huge tow-a-van that is on the limit for a Galaxy. The TDi is the most impressive vehicle I have ever towed with, second only to my Range Rover. The torque from the TDi is just what you need and feels very much like my 4.2 V8 Rangie. Regards - JB

I'm pretty sure it's just old age setting in B) I've had fast cars in the past and driven them hard, in fact very hard (Broadspeed bullit, Triumph Dolomite Sprint, Caterham 7, Cobra Replica etc), but having been involved from a medical point of view with some RTA's it makes me wonder if it's all worth it. I'm now contented to sit back in my comfy chair, climate control set, CD's playing and let the world rush by. Caio - JB

I personally feel that speeding is as bad as drink driving, what makes drivers think they know more about appropriate speeds than the engineers that have loads of data on road conditions, surfaces, locale etc. I whole heartedly am in favour of speed cameras, a local road to me between Gainsborough and Bawtry used to be terrible with maniac speeding. We now have specs camera's fitted and everyone without exception is driving at 50mph. Now I can drive on this road with the appropriate gap to the car in front without some prat overtaking me and invading my stopping distance (275' or 2 seconds). I also feel that estate roads should be down to 20mph. The motorways however should be de-restricted BUT more tickets issued for dangerous driving eg sat on the back bumper of the car in front at 80mph. For my part yes I stick to the limits, I drive in excess of 40,000 miles per year as an I.T. Consultant and I use the cruise control all of the time to keep to the limit and keep my license, I use my SatNav speed display to make sure the speed is right (amazing how far out the speedo can be). So far as you being 5 times more likely to get a ticket thats not so UNLESS you exceed the speed limits! Some people may think I'm a sad old git BUT I don't spend my time watching out for the yellow boxes or the boys in blue behind. Speeding these days simply is not worth it in terms of your license OR in the danger you put yourself or everyone else in. Regards - JB
