  1. Just repairing the wife's car and now need to reset the airbag... :( Ok, so it's not a Galaxy, but being a Seat Cordoba, it's a cousin insofar as they're all VWs. Dealer quoted
  2. Mine came in at just over
  3. Sounds interesting - I wonder if it's the engine thinking 'hey the driver's just about to get in, perhaps I can get the car ready to go and do really useful things like warm the glowplugs, etc?' <_< Taliska
  4. How much would you expect to pay for a 30,000 mile service on a 53 plate 115 diesel? Taliska
  5. Hi Guys, Ford seem to want to replace it with the exact same 'scuttle panels' that were there already - wot a surprise. Gadgetoid: then: Do you know if this single moulding is suitable for an 53 plate Galaxy? Alas, I've not VAG-COM to look at the info. :o Thanks, Taliska
  6. Dear SeatKid, For one very good reason, as borne out today, as I said a while ago: :o :o The only comment I will repeat from today's debacle is :o Now where exactly is that microswitch, please - some mechanics don't know and neither do they know how it's damned well meant to work either! :o GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!! Taliska
  7. Rang them up and asked what it was - it turns out that it is a fuel additive that's supposed "to clean up the injectors really nicely". Hummm... Already got the right can of Millers oil ready for the service. <_< Taliska
  8. They did ask whether it was a diesel so, with any luck, they wouldn't try to fix a part for a petrol engine to it! :) Taliska
  9. Hi, I think that I'll ask them (Hendy) what one is, out of interest. Funny, never had one in my life on the old Audi 80 diesel. BTW - I did say 'no' straight away! Taliska
  10. Hi all, Going in for a 30,000 mile service and "Ford recommends a fuel emissions control service" quote. I've never heard of this... anyone care to enlighten, please! Are they just going to replace the fuel filter? :D Thanks all, Taliska
  11. Blimey... I think I'm going to take a trip to the tyre place. Thanks, Taliska
  12. Hi, About 6000 miles ago I had the tyres changed on the front wheels. Over the last couple of 1000 miles, the steering seems to wobble slightly, particularly around the 50-60mph speed. I guess that I could get the tyre people to re-balance the wheels in case a weight has fallen off. Any ideas as to what this might be if it's not the wheel balance? Thanks, as always, Taliska
  13. Hi all, I think this was covered a while ago - alas I can't get the search engine to return any results. B) There's some sort of security boxes that will fit under the front seats in the Galaxy - any recommendations please. BTW, I've got those swivelly-turny-round front seats - will that be a problem? Cheers, Taliska
  14. Unfortunately this is common and won't be put right under warranty unless you are exceptionally lucky ! Pants really. My ol' Audi had some thick black gunk plastered on the underneath - it lasted 10 years without showing any signs of rust - this looks like a backward step. Anyone got any recommendations as to suggested action - I think that putting it on the wheel ramps and splurging on underseal myself is a bit amateur. Is there anyone out there that will do this professionally? Is is worth doing anything about it at all? Thanks, Taliska
  15. Oh yes, I forgot - I bought a diesel for economic reasons. :) I see your point about the servicing too. Would go quick though! :) Taliska
  16. It gets even better if you look at the VW Touareg diesels. There's a V10 5.0L 313PS TDI engine - if that's not a DOHC... Taliska
  17. Well, Seatkid's not really quite right about the double overhead camshaft diesel: :) Remember VW = Audi = SEAT = Skoda etc The big diesel A8's spec:
  18. Hi, Had a go getting the spare tyre down - all went well. It's quite a peculiar mechanism really - best tried in the daylight before you need to do it for real. While the wheel was down, I did notice that there was lots of superficial rust on the suspension arms - surely that's not right !?! As regards the oil, I just wish I could trust Ford, but I can't. I think I'll shop around and find someone who will do an emissions test at a reasonable price - perhaps another branch of the same dealer. Yes, it's just a plain and simple tape cassette adapter with wires coming out to plug into the DVD (an old laptop!). When the warranty is over I may look into cutting into the CD wires. Funny old thing happened today with the radio - it said that there was no CD player there, then found it a few seconds later... 19. Oil... aaarrrggghh. Service coming up, will try that Millers stuff for the 115 this time. Had the wrong stuff put in at the first service, and too much (I believe) of the Ford Formula SD stuff on the second... Must get it soon - anyone know where I can get it around the Southampton / Salisbury area? Taliska
  20. The story with the cat is that I believe that the engine was well overfilled with oil at the last service - there was a pool around the filler cap and oil all over the engine cover. 5000 miles after the service, the oil levels were 'normal' and 8000 miles after the service, I had to put some oil in - that leads me to think that it was overfilled - it probably explains where most of the 6 litres of oil went. As some concern was expressed on these forums that overfilling with oil can damage the cat, I was naturally concerned. I guess that it was some glitch in the radio, don't know if it really warrants whinging about, but if it is an indicator of imminent failure, then it would be nice to know. Think I'll try and find the place to lower the spare tyre - it's a bit silly not knowing where it is. Thanks, Taliska
  21. Hi Dave, The car's got a standard 2 year European warranty that has different cover to the UK one (somehow). I don't think that the tape adaptor can be the cause, and neither can it really invalidate the warranty, but you never know what Ford might choose to say. The power-cycle was the cure... it's all a bit bizarre really. There are a couple of reasons for the low number of posts - work and the need to bite my tongue about a warranty claim with you-know-who. The Gal has been running fine, though I'm concerned whether the cat has been knackered by the last service. It's a case of do I spend my own cash on an emissions test before the warranty runs out... Again, do I also try to lower the spare tyre and see if the mechanism gets jammed? Cheers, Taliska
  22. Thanks for the info, will pass it on. Taliska
  23. Wondered if anyone else had ever noticed it, or had other odd things happen to their radios? If they are known to be temperamental, Ford should know and might replace with less of an argument. Actually, I'm not entirely sure whether the radio is covered under warranty or not as the car is a UK import and I guess was put in by the Belgians? Any thoughts? I suppose that I could go back to the garage I got it from, but they are 150 miles away. If this is a sign of the unit failing gradually, then I would like it to be replaced while it will cost me less. Taliska
